Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I might be the minority, but I'm hoping it's another "fantasy/lore" style set. I like the realistic buildings, and would totally welcome a candy store, library, police station etc, but the Elf Clubhouse and Gingerbread House style ones are my favourites. 

Something like an Iceburg House with a fishing hole, with Penguin minifigures would be nice. Or a house for Nutcrackers, A Grinch, Snowmen.

I was thinking that made more sense then a full police station in a tiny village.  And they need to be in old time uniforms or like an English Bobby to kind of take the edge off of the fact that nowadays police equals guns.  That's fine in the city, but the Winter Village the cops should be more like Mayberry cops.

OK, these suggestions are all far to sensible and likely. I'm going for bad Robot Santa from Futurama with a smoke-belching factory, behind a cutesy wintery façade with the new candy cane piece all over it.

I would prefer a detectives office than a police station, or maybe a detective at the village library doing some research on the crime of who is behind the mysterious disappearances of Xmas gnomes. All whilst the village children hear a Xmas story from the librarian

I’m quite suprised there is no rumor about the Winter Village set as September gets closer.

100% agree with your thoughts.  If they ever did a police station (and I'd be fine if they didn't get around to that particular building for 10-20 years), I would think that it needs to be soft around the edges.  No guns - nightsticks at most.  The English Bobby look is a good idea.  Nothing remotely modern.  

At the end of the day, I think there are a lot of other directions to go with the WV that wouldn't have the potential to be problematic in the way a police station could....unless they did a police station that was run by elves.  Now that would be fun!

My feeling is that sets like the Fire Station or a hypothetical Police Station or Library don't really fit the Winter Village vibe, no matter how thick their snowy roofs are. To me, those might say "village in the winter," but not Winter Village, you know? The main structure of a Winter Village set should be something whose purpose ties into Christmas/holiday traditions and activities.

I think that a village inn would be a slam dunk, and I'm actually surprised that one hasn't been made yet.

This may depend on where your from. In the uk, fire engines are a very big part of Xmas. Libraries hold craft sessions, story times etc and at Xmas even more so. Police station, well that’s where drunken Santa’s and co. who have misbehaved go, but like many others, would prefer other sets before this one comes to the shelves. I would like a little village school with a bell, I think that could be sweet.

To be honest, I don’t feel like that Police Station would say “WINTER VILLAGE!!’ When they hold in as inside the prison cells…. It’s quite gloomy for the inmates inside the cells while everyone enjoy festive time outside. So this won’t be my guess for the next Winter Village.

Yeah, fair. In the States, at least in my corner, the main association between firefighters and Christmas is if someone's tree or turkey dinner caught fire and it spread to the rest of the house.

I've seen some people suggest a Town Hall, and that works if you assume that it fronts onto a village commons where people gather for festivities. But in general, the more "degrees of separation" there are, the more you have to add to the building to make it a Christmas scene, the less natural it feels to me.

Some of the other suggestions I like:

• Department store--gift shopping, as well as a place for kids to sit on Santa's lap
• Hotel/Inn--fits in with holiday traveling, and an inn especially can have a gathering room with a big fireplace and people drinking hot apple cider
• Candy/sweet shop--self-explanatory
• Hardware store--another place people like to shop for gifts, and most of them sell decorations for your house and yard

A town hall gives great opportunities for a nice fountain, gardeny-type bits (tree, garlands, potted arrangements), and also things like a choir, Santa's grotto and reindeer petting area. The 'problem' with a town hall is that most of the things that happen there at Christmas are outside. Not much really ever happens inside. And the stuff that might happen, you'd probably associate more with a church than a town hall, so it's unlikely to happen.

The thing that seems to be missing most is a sweet shop, but even then, you could say that was in the winter village market with the sweet stall.

I don't have the bakery, so I might also be biased towards more food-based sets.

I really want village pieces, not fantasy pieces.

My preference would be a book store, or hotel/ lodge, or town hall.

I really hope we would get Clasuses’ House. Sure, most of you preer “realistic” Winter Village sets but or me, I think fantasty sets are just lovely.

Interestingly, there is none o us mentioning something competely different…. What if there would be a theater (not movie one)?! Like we often watch Christmas Carol or Nutcracker productions during Christmas season and enjoy watching actors and actoressses’ performances.

I would have this as part of the school production. You can’t have a school without kids putting on a Xmas play
