RichardGoring Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 The mail sorting machine honestly improves it a lot for me. It adds so much to the play experience, and that's a really important part of what I value from the Winter Village sets. Still on the smaller side and feels a bit too small for the operation they're trying to carry out in there, but it will likely be fun to play with. Quote
hugore Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Still meh for me. I will buy the House of Chocolate on Bricklink program instead. Quote
CDM Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I may consider buying and modding it to remove the hot air balloon / landing pad so it's more like a traditional village post office. I'm just not feeling that part of the model. Quote
hikouki Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 This set will be MOC'ed into a modular many times on Rebrickable... I feel like more than just two sets will be needed to come up with anything substantial. Quote
RichardGoring Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Seeing the mail sorter made me feel like the play functions were a huge plus on this set, and then Tiago's review showed the tipping basket on the hot air balloon - which I had missed - so the play functions are even better. Yes, it's small, and the layout is a bit odd, but I really like the smoothness to the snowy roofs, and the playability is excellent. Will definitely be getting it. Although the build looks it might be a little basic, which is a shame. Santa's Visit is genuinely one of the best, cleverest builds I've seen. The angles are all so clever. Quote
CDM Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 Thanks for posting that video review. Definitely going to mod it to retain the chute from the upper level but abandon the balloon chute altogether. Quote
karrit Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 (edited) I wonder if it will include more than one "Junk Mail" tile. Can't wait to see how many letter tiles we get in total. It seems like a lot in the video but I suspect he is reusing some to showcase each feature. Also I've noticed in some recent posts that the interior of the Mail Truck set is decorated with stickers depicting a workshop. We started speculating in another forum I'm on elsewhere why they chose to make the interior into a workshop. Curious what people here think the backstory for that is. I hope one of the designers explain the reason at some point. Just went through New Elementary's review and they say there are 3 of the Junk Mail tile and 5 of the Air Mail tile. They don't say how many of the regular letter or envelope with seal ones are included. I have a lot of the one with the seal from the PAB wall. Edited September 25, 2024 by karrit Quote
JohanLG9 Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Why another postoffice? I already have the 10222. Two post offices in one town is just stupid. Quote

lifeinplastic Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 We do need to consider that the 2011 Post Office is not currently available and many kids within the target demographic for these sets will not have been born back then. Quote

Arstotle Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I dislike repetitive builds in the WV line too, but I think these post offices are different enough that it doesn't bother me. When they first came out with Santa's Workshop, I thought it was a strange choice. But now they've really developed two different towns - one at the North Pole, and one for us mortals - and I find that I enjoy having the different styles and locations. At this point, I look at them as two separate winter villages instead of one big one, and while I think this was very smart from Lego's standpoint, I'm totally bought in. Both towns have endless possibilities for future sets, but I find myself perhaps a bit more interested in what they might role out next for the North Pole. And now that we have Santa's Post Office and the Delivery Truck coming, it will be time to turn our attention to this year's holiday GWP's. Hopefully at least one of them will be a set that works with the WV line. Quote
Karalora Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Someday...maybe not this year, but some day...I will build an earthbound Winter Village and a fantasy one, and connect them through a wintry forest. Someday... Quote
hikouki Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 10222 Looks more like a regular town post office (without the interiors?). This new set is an imaginary Santa-based set. Quote
keba Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 This year will be first time i wont buy winter village set. Set just dont met my lego awww standard, too little building and not much furniture, nothing special. Quote

It's not even two post offices in one town—the old one is in the main winter village (with most of the "realistic" winter village shops and houses) and this one is at the North Pole, with Santa's Workshop and the Elf Clubhouse. CDM Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I ended up adding this to a christmas gift order and I may start building this weekend so I can gameplan my mod. One thing i was struck by upon opening the shipping box: the US retail box has these warnings printed on 3 damn sides! I'm a realistic person and I appreciate warnings on items but this seems really overdone. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 @CDM Sorry for the sort-of off topic post, but the reason for the new big warnings is because it was mandated by Congress / some govt. agency. Some kids apparently swallowed some watch batteries and died / got hurt, thus the new giant signs... LEGO has no say in this matter. Quote
karrit Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 The warnings are overkill. It's beyond ridiculous that these huge warnings are plastered on three sides of the box just to have it in multiple different languages. Quote

Kids have been swallowing batteries for a while and I understand the reason for the warnings...I was just surprised to see it so prominently on the front. Side note: some battery manufacturers are making the small watch-sized batteries with bitter coatings for this reason. OK, back to our regularly scheduled programming. Quote

That's a bit surprising, though Spanish comes to mind as a second language. Is there a third? Quote

Yes, the big one on the front is in English, the one on the top edge is French & the one on the end flap is Spanish. As shown in the posted picture above they cover a lot of the real estate that should be better used to showcase the actual merchandise. I get that there are stupid people in the world & kids do dumb things but sometimes these regulations are pointless overkill. I doubt the warnings have much if any effect in stopping the tragedies the warnings are about. I'd rather just be unhappy about the black backgrounds on the boxes than trying to see the set through all the warning labels and wondering which pictures were left off our boxes. I'll get off my soapbox now. Quote

It's not about stopping people from doing stupid stuff that gets them hurt/killed. It's about protecting the company from liability when people do stupid stuff that gets them hurt/killed. Quote
