It's not about stopping people from doing stupid stuff that gets them hurt/killed. It's about protecting the company from liability when people do stupid stuff that gets them hurt/killed.

If law forces companies to print those lables on the boxes, it should actually be to stop people from getting hurt though ;).

The problem is that companies should not be held liable for the stupidity/idiocy of individuals.  No warning label is going to stop that.

It can be difficult to prove whether someone did something stupid because they were stupid, or because they thought they were using a product as directed...unless there are great big warning labels telling people what not to do.

But putting a battery in one's mouth should in no way ever be able to be proved as using a product as directed.  If it isn't food it doesn't belong in the mouth.

Look, I didn't intend for this to be some drawn out discussion over safety regulations. It's not about stupidity...it's about the safety of kids who don't know any better and while I think they're ugly, if they save a kid from sickness or death I think it's well worth it. My aesthetic tendencies, and yours, will get over it.

It's exactly like I feared: Apart from the hot air balloon Santa's Post Office is a huge disappointment - concerning building experience, exterior (the building is much too small plus the walls are shorter than the ground floor ist (something which is bad in Friends sets, but in an Icons set it's even worse)), interior (looking quite empty plus no place for the sorting machine) and ninifigure selection (all elves with the same torso and beanie). 👎

Shame that  they didn't reuse the elf with pigtails part from the CMF Series 23.

Some info on the Christmas promos has leaked over the last couple of days. None of them are going to get me over the line on the Post Office this year though, which I'm kind of pleased with -- I like having multiple Winter Village sets in reserve to purchase, in case there are two good Christmas promos in the same year.

Black Friday Promo: 40700 Christmas Train (like 40138 but bigger and greener)

December Promo, 6th - 31st: 40701 Ballerina Scene (a twirling ballerina on a gold stage)
December Promo, 13th to 31st: 40702 Christmas Picture Frame (red frame with festive decorations)

Pictures for the latter two are on Reddit.

I'm curious to see what the train one will look like.  The others are just okay.  I thought we were supposed to be getting an Ideas Space themed GWP for Black Friday.  Not really interested in the record player thing but If I buy the Endurance it will meet the threshold so I'll find something to do with the parts. I miss the more Christmas themed GWP's like the snowy outdoor scenes & things with elves.

I'm guessing everyone has seen pictures of the GWP Christmas Train (out now) as well as the Picture Frame and Nutcracker Ballerina, which are due out in December.

I think the train is a nice looking set for a GWP.  It's a shame that it doesn't really add to the WV line the way the Christmas Market GWP last year did, but it looks like a solid set overall.

The Nutcracker Ballerina set is a real missed opportunity.  If the stage had been made just a bit bigger, that set could very well have worked as an outdoor stage/amphitheater for a Winter Village, and the Nutcracker would be the perfect production to be on display at such a venue.  The set looks just a bit small for something like that, and maybe it will look better/bigger in hand, but it looks like Lego was going for more of a music box idea with this set instead of doing something that would work as part of a WV.  Might be a nice set in the end, but it could have been so much more.

The picture frame doesn't get my attention much at all, but at least it's got a fun holiday look.

At the end of the day, the GWP's don't add to the WV nearly like the carriage and market stand did last year.  Definitely disappointing.  And it looks like my dream of an autumn CMF line that has a WV theme will be delayed yet again, as next autumn's CMF line is pretty strongly rumored to be a Spider-verse set.

I guess we can officially start the conjecture about the 2025 WV set!

Lackluster GWP(s) means I don't feel compelled to track them down / spend more than I normally would so I'm fine with this year's offerings...haha.

Packing up my winter village for another year and I have my first wish for next year's set: Better structural design than Santa's Post Office.

It's the last of more than a dozen winter village sets that I'm packing up and it's the only one that's going to need a full rebuild next year because just trying to pick it up has it in pieces - even after remembering that none of the roof pieces are actually attached to anything.
