Just put together my first modular, the Pet Shop. Aside from one missing piece (1x4 grey baseplate, which I've since discovered others also found missing), I noticed that the white decoration above the front door of the apartment looked odd. It's made from two "undercarriage" pieces, part 4222968. I've also seen this piece used as skis.

However, in my set they've supplied part 6010739. It lacks the hinge joint, which in the Pet Shop set is seen at an angle and is supposed to look like scroll-work. I built the thing without realizing, then wondered why it looked... silly. Then I noticed the slight difference in the pieces.

I've searched this forum to find a few reviews showing other people's builds, and they all seem to have the correct part. The box artwork and the brick list in the instructions also have the correct part. Just wondering if anyone else has found this problem? (I purchased the set from Australia's Lego store but it was out of stock and was eventually sent, I believe, from overseas. Hard to tell from the postage label these days.)

[ugh, can't post links and images on my first post. Brickset has the parts illustrated.]

The original ski piece was replaced with the newer one without the hinge part, Original listed as 1993-2014. Could be that this was one of the last sets packed and that's why there is a difference. Just checked on Bricklink and the newer one without hinge is listed as an Alternate piece in 10218

It happens very often with this set - older lot used to have fence part (4185652) replaced. The bigger concern in my opinion is missing 1x4 grey plate.

Later production runs of sets often have updated versions of a piece.

Iirc, there was also the case - also with PS - of the old 1x4x2 railing with 2 knobs on top being replaced with the newer version that has 4 knobs.

My Pet Shop does have the fences with 4 knobs. I prefer the original ones.

I might have to redesign that door decoration anyway. The "skis" fall off very easily. Also the parrot perch, which keeps detaching from the floor. Other than that it was an enjoyable build. I put all the furniture from both buildings into the apartment as I didn't like it half-empty, so I'll need to make new furniture for the apartment over the shop itself.

My 5-year-old was intrigued watching me build the PETS sign and the way it came together. It's a unique technique, for me anyway, with my experience in the last couple of years being mostly Lego Movie, Friends and Elves sets but no modular buildings before.

Hmmmmm. I wondering whether this could be a good thing for me if I can also then use the new skis when Bricklinking a Cafe Corner. No point having fancy (and expensive) scroll work on the Cafe Corner if it's missing from the townhouse!

They all have the hole in them. I started using the new mold for my CC version, but then I scrapped the whole project because everyone has a CC and I wanted something different. But the new ski was going through the flex tube just fine.

I don't have a CC....

Hahahaha

Yes, I think the vast majority of AFOLs DO NOT have a CC. I have one, albeit a bricklinked one, but many, many do not have the box and/or instructions....

Some people like to be different, nothing wrong with that!!

I too purchased a second PS at the same time as many from the Aus S@H website, and now one of my townhouses has a more decorative door than the other
