Dan-147 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I've been wanting to MOC a Winter Village themed church or train station for some time. I guess that the money I will be saving by not having to purchase the Toy Shop (I have an original one) could be used for that. Dan-147 Quote

Blondie-Wan Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 My god.... they just recolored the whole set *oh2* This is even laughable Recolored? It doesn't look like they even did that. They did change and add a lot of small details, though. Quote
kermit Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Ohh well just means more money to go towards the ninjago temple set. Quote
CM4Sci Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Those caroler's faces will go well in my castle towns brothel Ohhhh gosh, posts like these are why we need a like button or something on Eurobricks Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Since city cops a rehash of police and fire stations all the time it was only a matter of time before this theme copped it too. Though it's nice to see more brick built toys , better detailed minifigs but pity the shop wasn't a different design. Now here's an idea, scratch build the toys, make up your own minifigs via say Bricklink and you don't need to buy this set. Quote
Vindicare Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Thinking more about this, I feel this is a bit of a slap in the face for a lot of us. The vast majority of us have at one time for whatever reason, stopped buying LEGO. We all missed out on things we'd like, as goes for anyone who collects things. This is essentially saying "too bad for you" to those of us looking forward to this theme every year. Missing sets sucks for everyone, but I still would rather have something new. If it would've been a significant change or improvement I would've been okay with it. Take City, we get police & fire stations every few years, but they are vastly different from their predecessors. Same goes with the recent bike shop pizza parlor sets. Had it at least been a complete color change, I'd be alright with that, as in some instances of a block of retailers, the looks are the same. I just REALLY hope they don't go that route for the Modulars. There isn't any set that I look forward to more than those. Quote
jedge Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Pass Have the original. Would have been nice to get something new, but that's ok, the previous Winter Village sets already make for a nice large display. Now how about expanding on the "Halloween Village" theme hmmm... my MF Haunted House would love a companion mausoleum or spooky shack to go with it, hint, hint. Quote
Bookworm Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I was disappointed to see Lego essentially re-release an old set instead of something new. The Winter Village is one of the most popular themes – eagerly awaited by many every year – so it is puzzling why TLG made this decision when so many consumers (including myself) were looking forward to a new set. I do have the original Winter Toy Shop, so that's another $80 in my pocket instead of Lego's. Oh yay, now I can do that 1960's green bathroom I had thought about...haha... I wasn't back to get the original, so I probably will purchase. It does point to corner cutting at the same time try to appease all the fans that thought the line was ending at that Santa's Workshop lump... :-) Thanks for the laugh: it brightened up a rather gloomy thread. Robert8 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Recolored? It doesn't look like they even did that. They did change and add a lot of small details, though. Well... they recolored the female caroler torso and slope and the Jack-in-the-box A gingerbread house would have been better than this Quote
AncientDayz Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 They definitely got lazy with the theme this year. I actually feel bad for the wife because this is the only theme she builds, but she even looked at it and said that this was just plain dumb. I guess we'll be passing on this year's Christmas tradition :( Quote
ManInATopHat Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Damn. Although some of the updates look great, they really couldn't have come up with something different? I get that it's been a few years since the first one came out, but still... This has been a tradition of mine for several years, so there goes that. Needless to say I'm very disappointed at this news. Quote
Jern92 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Now Lego, please re-release the Taj Mahal. I will support you for all eternity if you do. Quote
Ultron Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 So I'm really not that impressed with this set..The only thing I truly like is the tree. I've seen better fan creations on this site alone. But this set honestly is brought down a notch just because of how completely lazy their attempt is. I don't even have the first one and I'm pissed they did this. What a slap in the face to fans. What, did they run out of ideas? Low blow, Lego. Quote
brickdad46 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Add me to,the disappointed list. Just think about Morten, the poor schmuck who had to give the spiel about what a wonderful set this is. Seems like TLG is following the Hollywood trend and not coming up with new ideas. I have all the WV sets and may have to swallow hard to buy this one. If I do, I am thinking of building it backwards to make it somewhat different than the original. Boo to Lego. Quote
deraven Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'm also disappointed, but tempering my disappointment with the fact that if they did re-release a slightly updated Cafe Corner I'd be very happy to stop bricklinking one and snap it up (while some folks would be angry about it), so I can understand folks who didn't get a Toy Shop initially being pleased about this since for them it's essentially a new WV set. Still, I'm surprised this was the decision and that it wasn't released along with something new. Like the WV Advent Calendar I mentioned- that would have been easy to pull off and would have added something for the rest of us AND for anyone coming in new. Honestly, if I "save" this $80 it'll just go to something else Lego instead that I'd have to have had debated about, so at least it makes the choice easier... so, again... disappointment tempered. fred67 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) I'm also disappointed, but tempering my disappointment with the fact that if they did re-release a slightly updated Cafe Corner I'd be very happy to stop bricklinking one and snap it up (while some folks would be angry about it), so I can understand folks who didn't get a Toy Shop initially being pleased about this since for them it's essentially a new WV set. Actually, I'm a little peeved about the Toy Shop (I have one), but would not be about the Cafe Corner (despite having one of those, too) - it's been off the market longer than the Toy Shop, has a lot more people interested in it (based on the old Toy Shop selling for about 3.5 times it's MSRP and Cafe Corner selling for closer to 10 times it's original MSRP), and I think they'd release a new, regular, annual modular set, too. If it supplanted that year's new modular, then I don't know how I'd feel - but at least I'd understand the need for a re-release more than Christmas. The Christmas theme, and getting the new set every year, has become somewhat of a tradition. Last year I had to get a second folding table to expand my display, and was just stoked about having the train have twice as much track to run on. In fact, it simply wouldn't be disappointing at all if they released a new set, too. I'd like to throw this suggestion out there, if anyone's listening... instead of supplanting a new set, release a new set and allow people to vote on what get's a re-release. I know they need to plan way ahead, so the holidays timed voting could apply to the next holiday season. But don't limit it to WV - do it for modular, too, and perhaps other ongoing themes where it could apply. So I'll probably get a couple of the changing seasons sets (was going to anyway) and Christmas them up. Plus we'll be getting the smaller auxiliary sets, too, so need to wait to how they look before getting really disappointed. Edited August 19, 2015 by fred67 Quote
NBV83 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I do like the rerelease, as it makes it possible for me to get the set at a reasonable price. Maybe the rehash of the winter village set could could mean, that TLG has put more resources on the new modular, with it being the 10th in the line. One can always dream. Quote
LegoSjaak Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) Maybe TLG has a sabbatical year the coming 12 months, and they only come up with re-releases of sets that were sold out within a year in the past 10 years or so.....haha... Still i think it really sucks, bring out re-releases.... I collected coins for about 10 years ago.. what if they would duplicate the most rare pieces, so everyone has exactly the same collection...everyone can afford all pieces, including the formerly rare ones, which are cheap now... Personally with the feeling of collecting you should actually always have one or a few pieces that you can never afford... I'm still pissed they did this.. although it does not hit me directly.... Poisso3 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I like this set being re-released mostly because I missed it when it first came out (Still in the Dark Ages), but also because it was slightly updated to make it not an exact re-release of the 2009 set. I do find it interesting that there of those in the LEGO community who don't like this set's re-release, but are calling for the re-release of other sets. I do see it as TLG testing the waters to see if bringing back older sets that are slightly updated will sell. For those of you who have been out of the dark longer than I have, how often does a set get re-released? Quote
Sir von Lego Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Please let them make a Holiday Train next year again... Quote
Gohvicc Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I would like to express my disappointment with the rerelease of the set (call it an update If you like). Did the Winter Theme Lego Chief Designer resign or what? Creative Director run out of juice? I am sure Lego can be more creative... please launch new (not a re-hash) of the winter series. Thanks. Quote
Hive Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 As we only started collecting the Winter Village sets from the 2013 edition (and thus only have the last 2 sets), I can't personally complain. But I fully understand why people who collected from the beginning feel a great deal of dissapointment with this re-release. I like the concept, though; practically the same except for some details here and there that has been improved. If LEGO would use this concept to re-release more classics, I would be *very* pleased.
