Hinckley Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 TPRU, would you have let them convert Adam? Would he have still been a bomb?
Dragonfire Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) Oh, cool. Did you read Unrest in the Forest? Apparently, there's a tactic for being the Miller. You're supposed to claim in your first post. I didn't know until I played that game. Yeah, I think I remember that game actually. Rule number one: always claim as Miller in your first post or the entire town will jump on you... Oh, I forgot rule number two: always read your role description on mafiascum wiki or else you'll be accused of lying If the Scum had been killing or the Serial Killer didn't have me believing she was the vig for so long, I probably wouldn't have made it. TK would have killed you on Night Eight if he hadn't been blocked Reading the part of the deadboard where the scum attempted to frame Mencot as scum, then realized belatedly that he was the very scum they were looking for made me laugh out loud. This game should go down in history for its freak coincidences. The vigilante gets lynched without claiming on the first night while the serial killer takes out a scum, the scum frame the very traitor they needed, the scum try to recruit every non-recruitable PR in the game, the serial killer accidentally kills the investigator... To be fair to Dave, the only convert-able (??) players left when he started converting were JJP, TK and you. And JJP died soon after. I agree, what a game of coincidence TPRU, would you have let them convert Adam? Would he have still been a bomb? TPRU told us that the bomb was convert-able. We assumed that he would become a regular scum and not a bomb; however, we thought Adam was a PR for a long time. We had Adam pegged as the vig and Pandora as the bomb, hence the Night Six action. MagPiesRUs Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 Thanks to everyone who played and everyone who watched along! I'm glad everyone seemed to enjoy the game, that's always good to hear! *snip* This is so pretty. I want to print and frame the ones of Me and Adam and Pandora fighting the Giants. That would be cool. If anyone wants larger versions of some of the pictures, let me know. I've kept a lot of the original photos, and quite a few of them look a lot better full-size. ]Brickelodeon said… (10 Jul 15, looking at version 1)[/b]Did I blow it (again)? Get back on the horse, but yes. Totally blew it. Totally. For Brickelodeon's sake, I'm glad the town won. If they hadn't, I was afraid he would've had to lay low somewhere in the countryside when you found out what happened. ]Jluck said… (06 Aug 15, looking at version 1)[/b]^theres been light discussion of an anonymous game. It’d be massive undertaking for the host but it’d pull people away from meta gaming. I've done it twice now. It's awesome. I was briefly toying with the idea of making this an anonymous game. Obviously though, that wouldn't be possible if I wanted to keep the returning characters. The idea was that whoever the SK shapeshifter killed, they would actually hijack their target's account and start posting as them, whilst their original character died. Scary stuff... I really thought he was scum though, since he and TPRU seem to mess with each others roles in every game they host, but I was wrong. It's always a different perspective when you're not playing. I always randomly assign roles, it was just a coincidence Hinckley (and you) got picked as scum twice in the first two Ragnaroks. Apparently it was a coincidence that I was the only townie in Prison Riot too, but I'm still not entirely sure about that one. I sent TPRU a PM that said "What if I was redirected off of Pandora onto the vig??" and "OMG, Adam was the traitor. Have I killed my Pernilla? " I wanted Pernilla to have an elaborate sub–plot and sent TPRU, almost, a script. It's never too late for a Pernilla script! Funnily enough, on one of the nights where you made a special request for Pernilla if you died, someone else sent a PM asking to take the pig down with them if they died. I really don't know what possessed me to keep the conversion over the kill ... I had said like 7000 times on the board that it was imperative that we keep the kill. I guess I was convinced Lady K was convertible and that I would get our kill back after the conversion. The lack of kill was excessively frustrating given the fact that we had, correctly, determined that we could not convert PRs. So there we were with a full list of PRs and no kill ability ... FAAAACCCKKK!!! Taking the conversion was probably the better idea, you were just unlucky that pretty much all the vanillas were either killed or under suspicion. Your odds of winning wouldn't have been great if you were up against all those townies by yourself. TPRU, would you have let them convert Adam? Would he have still been a bomb? He probably would have had to choose between being the bomb and taking on one of the scum roles. He wouldn't have had both.
Dannylonglegs Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 So, hello everyone, sorry for killing most of you. In fact sorry to everyone I killed (or got lynched). Danny, I really did think you were scum. My entire argument around killing you was, perversely, the truth. Sorry dude. Haha! To be fair, I was trying to appear scummy. Particularly towards the end (the day you decided to kill me) as I had finally connected with Hink, and figured he could keep the vig off of me. That way I'd avoid Scum suspicion, and continue sneaking by in the day threads. A perfect plan... if the Town Block was kept more in the know. this was my first time as part of the "town block", even though it was really in its nascent stages when I died. Amusingly enough, during day 11, I convinced myself that Hinck was right and you had guessed I was the investigator! Particularly since you kept citing the opening of my last day, during our gambit. I thought you'd caught all that, and killed me specifically because of my role. Either way, it worked out for you pretty well till the very end. Seriously great great great job! I would have lived to see you win, even though, thematically, I like that the Town won. You really played the Long game, and you played it really well! How ironic that the game should begin with fire (my lynching) and end with fire as well. I'll second this sentiment! Excellent story telling on TPRU's part! Awesome, Awesome game!... snip... It was a pleasure playing with you! I think my biggest mistake was not coming out to you after investigating you. As I've said numerous times in numerous places I play this game and others like it very conservatively (I'm a coward. ) and I worried you might have been the Mafia Boss. If I had come out to you, you might have taken my role when I died, and thereby gained Hink's trust and stayed alive. My bad. sorry. I really did think you were scum though for some reason! I don't know if killing is a good test of anything, that's a lot like the old witch trials really. I hadn't helped yet anyway, so I guess in the end it doesn't matter. This is a Mafia game... Wow, what a great game! I wasn't even playing (I was a reserve ) and the game was still exciting. Can't wait to play my first actual game in the impending Blacktron Invasion! I can't wait either! I really must commend you on your following the game. When we spoke in private you guessed exactly what was going on! Great work there! The idea was that whoever the SK shapeshifter killed, they would actually hijack their target's account and start posting as them, whilst their original character died. Scary stuff... Holy crap! That's terrifying, but totally awesome! Truly exquisite game, TPRU! I had an absolute blast! Almost more of a blast watching from the deadboard than actually playing the game! So much great stuff happened that I can't express it all here. Just reread my dead thread posts for feedback on events. this is truly one for the annals. Worthy of recognition in the Jedi archives. Great job! ~Insectoid Aristocrat
Hinckley Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Thanks to everyone who played and everyone who watched along! I'm glad everyone seemed to enjoy the game, that's always good to hear! You have certainly raised the bar. For Brickelodeon's sake, I'm glad the town won. If they hadn't, I was afraid he would've had to lay low somewhere in the countryside when you found out what happened. No, that's not necessary. I'll find him wherever he goes. The idea was that whoever the SK shapeshifter killed, they would actually hijack their target's account and start posting as them, whilst their original character died. Scary stuff... Dangerous! How would the Town figure that out? I always randomly assign roles, it was just a coincidence Hinckley (and you) got picked as scum twice in the first two Ragnaroks. Apparently it was a coincidence that I was the only townie in Prison Riot too, but I'm still not entirely sure about that one. That was the best coincidence ever. I laughed so hard. It's never too late for a Pernilla script! I requested that she kill one of the giants...or a random Viking if there were no enemies available. Funnily enough, on one of the nights where you made a special request for Pernilla if you died, someone else sent a PM asking to take the pig down with them if they died. Who was it? TK would have killed you on Night Eight if he hadn't been blocked Reading the dead board, hadn't he planned on redirecting Pandora onto Adam? Which he knew was the right thing to do since Pie outed all of the roles. But didn't TrumpetKing choose to stay home to avoid detection? The Night Action spreadsheet says "kill no one". TPRU, If Danny had investigated Pandora on Night Three (which was the other option we discussed) would she have come up as Scum since she was shapeshifting Darkdragon as the Miller?
CMP Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 TPRU, If Danny had investigated Pandora on Night Three (which was the other option we discussed) would she have come up as Scum since she was shapeshifting Darkdragon as the Miller? Good god, I can't even imagine how much hair you would've pulled out and what theories you would've come up with to try and explain that.

Hinckley Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I also think it's hilarious that the shapeshifting role warned Pandora that she had killed the investigator. One ping was that her reaction to killing the investigator was a little insincere. "Oooops. Sorry. " Maybe she did this too but it wasn't enough. She was almost lynched for that. Hindsight is 20/20. I think what I went to Pie about at that point was that it felt like she wasn't exercising enough caution to be the vig. I understand the thinking that I'm protecting a friend but killing that person is a harsh test. She could've just as easily have been reading me protecting a PR. If only I had worded things that way on Day 12! Well, we won anyway, but that would've been a really good point! I liked reading the dead board about how people felt about our arguments. Little ego boosts. Good god, I can't even imagine how much hair you would've pulled out and what theories you would've come up with to try and explain that. I know. I was also imagining the time between finding out and lynching Pandora. 96 hours to theorize about two Scum teams and where the vig went. And then she would flip Neutral...and my mind would literally explode...
Darkdragon Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 ... but killing that person is a harsh test.
Dragonfire Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Reading the dead board, hadn't he planned on redirecting Pandora onto Adam? Which he knew was the right thing to do since Pie outed all of the roles. But didn't TrumpetKing choose to stay home to avoid detection? The Night Action spreadsheet says "kill no one". Oh yeah, he did I was confused because in the Scum PM he said he was going to kill you, then he sent TPRU a PM separate from the scum PM to say that he was taking no action. So I didn't know what he'd done until the conclusion. He should have killed you. It doesn't really matter since he was blocked anyway, but killing the tracker is the #1 way of avoiding being tracked
Dannylonglegs Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I liked reading the dead board about how people felt about our arguments. Little ego boosts. Man! Your argument with CMP was "conclusion of a movie" level epic. It could have ended so poorly for you and the town. It was really fun to read! it was so impassioned, and dramatic! I Loved it! ~Insectoid Aristocrat
Pandora Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Pandora, why did you choose Chromeknight to kill over me? Was it because you still thought I was Scum? Oh, that must be it. No that wasn't it, I knew you weren't scum when there was a day eleven. If you truly had been scum, then the game would have been over. This is a true Ragnarok miracle that I survived until the end, as Town and won. If the Scum had been killing or the Serial Killer didn't have me believing she was the vig for so long, I probably wouldn't have made it. Actually if the serial killer hadn't thought you were scum you would have been toast on night two. So when it became clear that you were going to outlast the scum team, I needed to clarify the rules a little. The only reason any of this is an issue (and it's not a big issue) is because of the need to clarify the rules. It made an already hard job even harder, because the host had changed something everyone could see. That hugely intensified my scrutiny, and I know I wasn't being scrutinised because of that alone, but if the rules had said "The Loyals need to eliminate all threats" from the outset, there wouldn't have been the same acute focus. It just drew even more attention to me. This game should go down in history for its freak coincidences. The vigilante gets lynched without claiming on the first night while the serial killer takes out a scum I had at least three good reasons for killing scum on night one, and I had TLC pegged as scum when I killed him. The idea was that whoever the SK shapeshifter killed, they would actually hijack their target's account and start posting as them, whilst their original character died. Scary stuff... Oh heck, I'd have had to be awake (and available) at all hours of the day and night to do that! That really is scary. Haha! To be fair, I was trying to appear scummy. And in all seriousness you did a good job. Sadly for you, you had me convinced. Amusingly enough, during day 11, I convinced myself that Hinck was right and you had guessed I was the investigator! Particularly since you kept citing the opening of my last day, during our gambit. I thought you'd caught all that, and killed me specifically because of my role. Nope. You can see I watched Trumpetking that night to find the investigator. Turns out it was you! Either way, it worked out for you pretty well till the very end. Seriously great great great job! I would have lived to see you win, even though, thematically, I like that the Town won. You really played the Long game, and you played it really well! Thank you Danny, that's very cool and very gracious. Especially coming from someone who has a whole lot more experience playing a serial killer than I do! TPRU, If Danny had investigated Pandora on Night Three (which was the other option we discussed) would she have come up as Scum since she was shapeshifting Darkdragon as the Miller? I knew I'd come up as scum if investigated as TPRU had said so in my night action result. I made a short attempt to argue that it wasn't a night action, but then I was shapeshifting; I thought I'd try but didn't expect to succeed. Anyway, after a bit of thought I shrugged to myself and figured it'd be easier to argue my way out of a scum investigation ('I was framed! ) than being investigated as neutral. One ping was that her reaction to killing the investigator was a little insincere. "Oooops. Sorry. " Maybe she did this too but it wasn't enough. That's not even remotely near what I said. There was no 'ooops' or blush. I said I thought he was scum, and a few other things. Again, I would have done the same, and reacted the same if I had been the vig. I understand the thinking that I'm protecting a friend but killing that person is a harsh test. And yet it was an absolutely first-rate test for everyone else you suggested I kill.
Hinckley Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 And yet it was an absolutely first-rate test for everyone else you suggested I kill. Yet we were discussing them and you didn't have knowledge of roles to avoid killing. Trust me, it's different. That's not even remotely near what I said. There was no 'ooops' or blush. I said I thought he was scum, and a few other things. Again, I would have done the same, and reacted the same if I had been the vig. Yes, I see now it was a in the first post followed by the explanation and then a in the next post. Obviously, I was totally surprised you would target anyone we hadn't talked about. It didn't cross my mind until that point that you didn't trust me. When you don't trust me you try to get me lynched.
Pandora Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Yet we were discussing them and you didn't have knowledge of roles to avoid killing. Trust me, it's different. Clearly I'll never trust you. And it isn't different. Yes, I see now it was a in the first post followed by the explanation and then a in the next post. Glad you see it now. Obviously, I was totally surprised you would target anyone we hadn't talked about. It didn't cross my mind until that point that you didn't trust me. When you don't trust me you try to get me lynched. Unless I'm the vig, when I'd just kill you. Or the serial killer, and I thought it might be best to keep you alive and get rid of the other scum.
MagPiesRUs Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Dangerous! How would the Town figure that out? They'd have to keep an eye out for changing speech patterns I guess. There might be a warning at the start of the game. And the character who was killed and shapeshifted would be discarded the next day when the SK killed and hijacked someone else, so every day a dead person's affiliation would show up as something like "Neutral, formerly Town/Scum". I didn't go too far with the idea, so I don't know how it would work out in practice. But it's definitely a scary thought... I know. I was also imagining the time between finding out and lynching Pandora. 96 hours to theorize about two Scum teams and where the vig went. And then she would flip Neutral...and my mind would literally explode... There were some weird things Pandora could have done if she'd killed the right person. When Piratedave was alone trying to recruit someone, there was a real possibility that Pandora would kill him, recruit someone herself, then take over as a new neutral team.
Lind Whisperer Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 The idea was that whoever the SK shapeshifter killed, they would actually hijack their target's account and start posting as them, whilst their original character died. Scary stuff... How would this work? Would the game take place on another site? I'm guessing you wouldn't actually have to share account details, but I'm not sure how it could happen here on Eurobricks without doing that...
Hinckley Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 How would this work? Would the game take place on another site? I'm guessing you wouldn't actually have to share account details, but I'm not sure how it could happen here on Eurobricks without doing that... I've done it twice. I create anonymous accounts for every player. Pay attention.
mostlytechnic Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Yep, I've played the anonymous games and it's a bit of a pain, since you have to be VERY VERY careful before playing to make sure you've logged out of your real account and logged back in under the game account. A thought - is it possible to block accounts from posting in certain sections? So in that case, block the players real accounts from posting in the mafia forum to make sure it doesn't happen? And restrict the game accounts to only posting in the mafia forum...
Hinckley Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 A thought - is it possible to block accounts from posting in certain sections? So in that case, block the players real accounts from posting in the mafia forum to make sure it doesn't happen? And restrict the game accounts to only posting in the mafia forum... There could be a subforum where only the "Gamer" group could post but then staff who are playing would still have the issue. Or...maybe I could limit staff posting too... I think I could... Hmmmmm...
Piratedave84 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 There were some weird things Pandora could have done if she'd killed the right person. When Piratedave was alone trying to recruit someone, there was a real possibility that Pandora would kill him, recruit someone herself, then take over as a new neutral team. That would have been something else!!!
Palathadric Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I think blocking Scubacarrot should be enough.
Ranger of the Forest Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 A few other brief notes: well done to Tariqj and RangeroftheForest on playing pretty well in your first game. I think Tariq you managed to keep up with what was happening and argue well, and Ranger, never give up. It's pretty much the most important thing about mafia, and when you posted that you thought it wasn't for you I felt quite sad for you. You just have to fight, and keep fighting - it's a team game and if you don't fight you let down your team, and that's no good for anyone. I think you should give it another try at least, as some of the things you said were good. I thought you were town and might have even supported you if I hadn't been the SK but another body was just helpful for me. Same with Tariq. Also mediumsnowman; you were listed as a reserve and I constantly saw you reading the day threads, and that bodes very well for the future, because it shows you're a keen and interested player. I hope to see the three of you playing more in the future. I second this (and for Tariq and medium too)! Just look at how crazy this game was. It is not a great litmus test for the basics of Mafia. It was pretty nuts and I agree that you played the game pretty well, all things considered. Please join us again! Thank you both for the feedback. Part of my frustration stemmed from the fact that there wasn’t much I could do or say that would convince people, at that point. I chose a pretty rotten time to start playing, as I was very busy the whole month and didn’t have as much time as I thought I would to play. It’s my fault for making a commitment I couldn’t dedicate real time too. I did enjoy being part of this game, and hopefully I will be able to participate more in the future. Thanks again to TPRU for letting me play, this game was fantastic
Dragonfire Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Thank you both for the feedback. Part of my frustration stemmed from the fact that there wasn’t much I could do or say that would convince people, at that point. Reminds me of myself in Unrest in the Forest. I felt so frustrated...
TrumpetKing Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I'm a few days late, but hey, I was on vacation. A huge thank you to TPRU for hosting this game. It was the most fun I'd had in a while playing, even if I was inactive and was caught being converted to a doomed scum team right after being nearly cleared. Now you all know everything I said up until around Day 8 or 9 was sincere! Although I guess that means I need to sharpen up on my skills. I expected to have more thoughts written out, but I really can't express it into words as clearly as I want to anyways. Well done TPRU. Oh, and congrats to Hinck, Adam, the rest of the town, and Pandora as well for putting up a strong fight.
