Heyy, that's a first :classic:

Thanks for pointing this out, have seen a lot of awesome MOCs both Technic and System on that site

However I had to giggle a little at the [...] vast array of Power Functions components [...] Yes indeed, all two of them!

Congrats D3K! The truck deserved attention... :)

Max...

Wow, this is a masterpiece, I really love how you've hid all the gearbox levers - really smart! Congratulations! I hope someday I'll manage to put together something as complex as this truck.

Best regards, miha

At first it didn't look that great to me. But then I watched the video and realized how amazing it is - so complex, so many functions enabled with just a single motor.

12 functions with one motor... wow! I'm impressed that you got all of the functions to work at their realistic(practical) speed with only one motor. The battery/motor module is something I haven't seen before. My real only criticism is thatt the gearbox levers on the fenders are a tad too big. Maybe 1x2 technic halfbeam might work better. Great work.

Again, thanks to everybody for the kind words! :classic:

I'm struggling between all this gears and axles, and even with the colored pics, I'm not sure to understand all the systems.

Awesome!! Great job!!

Thanks! Yeah, it's quite a handful  Start with the lime green line (those are directly connected to the motor, and will all spin when the motor runs. Anyway, I have managed to cut down on some of the gears (well, at least two so far  ) for the revised model I'm building in LDraw.

Yes, I am currently rebuilding and stepping th ewhole digital file.. However, I got Metal Gear Solid 5 on Friday, so I've been a little preoccupied  Probably more than 20 hours gameplay so far, and 21% completion. Best. Game. Ever. in case you were wondering... :classic:

Sorry for off topic, I'll try to get some building done too

Incredible work!

And again a masterpiece which deserves attention as your other MOC's. Especially I like the very dense complexity of gears and functions in small space. That must have been a very big challenge.

Yes, I am currently rebuilding and stepping the whole digital file.

It would be great to share the LDRAW file. Even you do not plan to make instructions, a stepped CAD file allows to build the model. :classic:

If i could build only one model for the rest of my life this one would be one of the hottest candidates... Just WOW!

A stepped cad file would be very appreciated, thanks a lot in advance!

Well, it's well under way, I put together a small teaser video of the progress as of today:

Being just about done with the front section and its functions, I first now realize how tightly packed this actually is! No part count yet, but it's a lot :classic:

EDIT:

Some more progress tonight:

Hi, any news on this amazing project?

Would love to see it built before my eyes...

Hi, and thanks for taking an interest!

I'm sorry to say this project has been at a stand still for a couple of weeks now, with TC8 and the future Mercedes Truck contests taking up a lot of Lego time (I'm also not with my bricks at the moment)..

But I have by no means abandoned it, I will definitely finish it!

But as you can see from the below picture, not much progress has been made since last time (only added the 2nd gearbox and did some adjustments)

I will update this topic with progress shots as I reach new milestones :classic:

Love the truck, but those internals look pretty freaking complicated!

So here it is, the Tow Truck Mk II, a combination of a European truck with a typically American "rotator crane"(??) on the back (a Eurotator?)

Btw, we call them wreckers here in North America, at least in Canada

Posted

is that because american's don't crash cars, they wreck them?

Looking great on the progress too D3K. I see i'm going to have to invest in some new style shift mechanism parts.

Perfection takes time and this one is nothing short of perfect.

Glad to hear it will take some time, as I'm scrapped from "lego funds" since I've bought 41999.

I'll keep checking in for updates (and to look again at those awsome first pictures)

I am making progress! Had the day off today, weather's starting to get cold, and I needed a break from the crane project.

I have redesigned some functions compared to the initial design, among other things the fourth axle now has a lot simpler, as well as more accurate, steering system. I can't quite remember why I made it so complicated in the first place

Also, I built the cab:

Hello D3K,

How are the instructions coming along?

I really like the functionality of this truck.

And it isn't to expensive to build I think because there is only one motor and having multiple motors and RC makes a model expensive.

Are there sets besides 8109 where I can use a lot off parts from?

42009? 42030? 8053? Last years red Pickup truck?

Hello!

I am sorry to say I haven't done much progress since last time, there simply hasn't been enough time...

I was going to continue a couple of days ago, but had some LDraw problems, so I had to use a lot of time figuring that out.

But I will finish it! Most of the hard parts are done really, figuring out in what order to build the internals and mechanical part is what has taken the longest time this far. I will update here once I have some noteworthy progress to show

Hi guys! I am glad to see there is still some interest, and again, I am sorry to say I can't be sure when the digital file will be finished.. :sceptic:

I still have the truck built, but dismantled into larger components as part of the plan to finish it, but like I said in the other topic, time and technical problems has put the project on a halt.

As for which sets you'll need, I really can't point the finger at any one set. As a matter of fact, I'm not even sure the 8109 is really needed, apart from some of the stickers and the two panel pieces used on the cab roof. You'll obviously need a LOT of gears, as well as ten wheels/tyres and a bunch of red and yellow parts. That is, of course, if one wants to build it in those colours. I didn't concider which sets I was using when building it, as I simply took the needed parts from my stockpile. If I had to say one set, I'd say 42009 would get you a long way. Once the LDraw file is complete, I'll make a BOM, and it'll be a lot easier to see what is needed

Hello D3K,

First things first, sorry if this is considered as bumping, not meaning to, but I am still waiting and hoping on instructions to get finished for this model. Is there any progress since last time? Do you have an idea on when they will be done, you promised to finish them.
