Siegfried Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I will just put the exact same part but in bley or black so YES it wouldn't change anything on the waking mechanism ;-) BUT it would look way better ;-) Come on, an AT-AT with blue joints ? :-X Yes I agree. I had plans to do the same (espcially adding the hump) with mine.... :'-( I am perplexed though by the tan gears. I've never even seen gears like that in tan! Quote
xwingyoda Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I am perplexed though by the tan gears. I've never even seen gears like that in tan! Yeay its odd and ugly for the AT-AT :-D And I want 3 !! so imagine the parts I need *wacko* Thats insane, totally insane X-O So I will need to do one first and might write on the book which parts I need to change !! Why ? easy to spare parts viewing the vast amount needed. I might only change the visible parts and keep the blue/tan in the inside where its not seen from the exterior. But with the "handle" adding the extra stud hamp is a challenge :-D *yoda* Quote

xwingyoda Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Changing all 3 sure will take you some time, not to mention it's going to be so boring to do so. Yeay, I'm so used to that |-/ I need the parts for one at first and leave the 2 MISB untill I have all the right parts to mod it while I'm building it !! If not, its really boring and crappy to dismantle/rebuild ;-) Like always, patience is the key :-D I really need a good pab for those parts thats for sure !! *yoda* Quote
Vader Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I really need a good pab for those parts thats for sure !! *yoda* Well then i guess i know what parts you will be buying when we go ;-) Quote
xwingyoda Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Well then i guess i know what parts you will be buying when we go ;-) Lets hope mate, lets hope !! At least Technic links do not weigh anything :-P Plus I need other parts as well !! Bloody SW and their crappy add on colors >:-( *yoda* Quote
zz-80 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Thanks for your pics Luca!! But one question remains that hasn't been answered. Is General Veers the same Minfig as the AT-ST Pilot? I'm not 100% sure when looking at your pic. Thanks! Quote
sam89 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Thanks for the pics and videos lucajuventino! This set is very cool, but I'm not sure I'll get it as I have the old AT-AT already. Quote
Joebot Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Oh man, that video is freaking hilarious! This thing looks like a staggering drunk when it's walking! Quote
sam89 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I think the walking motion looks good. It looks quite a lot like how the actual AT-AT walks. It looks better in this video, I think. Quote
xwingyoda Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Watching it walk reminds me of Zoids toys when I was a kid X-D As stable and smooth :-D *yoda* Quote
SwissY Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Uhh, this thing is so ugly. I won't buy it, thats sure. At my opinion it's the worst Star Wars Set ever. So, looking forward to the UCS Falcon ;-) Quote
Eothein Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 When watching it walk it reminded of images you see in wildlife documentaries of new born animals like Giraffes etc who can barely walk without looking like it had been out on a night of drinking. Still the walking motion is good considering the price and materials used and is it me or does the head move as well? The motion is capturing the Battle of Hoth in my eyes very well, with it slowly walking forward and the head moving around targeting the Rebel scum. Still I am unsure about purchase because the design is a little too skeletal, there Quote
julencin2000 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 WOW 150 euros in Spain, that's not fair... T-T Is my imagination, or Luke has a chromed lightsaber? In the part list looks like bley, but in some pictures it shines... Quote
mutley777 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I like how the head moves slowly up and down and side to side as it walks *y* The movement is not to bad, and the price is the same in the uk as the 4483 AT-AT was 8- Quote
natelite Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Something is terribly wrong with the construction. You can see it is sort of just dragging its hind legs. The front legs were so wobbly it's almost like a drunk trying to walk. The second movie seems better. You can pretty much expect a lot of wear on the hind legs if the mechanism was to drag the hind legs. I suppose it was designed cheaply to make use of 3 legged support and simple motion by operating in pairs (front left and back right, vs front right and back left). If it were designed with proper movement, the balancing act would have been much tougher since you need to move one leg at a time and push/support on the diagonal leg (eg, front left forward, pushing on hind right. Hind right forward, leaning on front left, etc). Much harder. but i probably have unrealistic expectation. if it took honda way more money than $99 to make the asimo walking robot, how can i expect the At-At to work better than that? Quote
PaulC Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I think that it does lift it's hind leg as it walks, but only very slightly. The walking motion in the first video seems much rougher. It looks as though it was put together with the gears slightly out of synch. In the second video it seems much smoother, and you can see why the handle is absolutely essential - you need to be able to grab it quickly to stop it going off the table! :-D I agree with Yoda and the others that the colours and upper body shape need some work, but other than that I'm very impressed. This is going on my wish list for sure! Quote
casewindu Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Dont let go Luke! :-D this set looks really funny walking about like this yet it's good to see that lego can produce stuff like this. As for me this set is 100% on my christmas list! :-D thanks Luca! Quote
sam89 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I'm pleasantly surprised that, looking at the parts list, this piece is printed. Quote
Hinckley Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I apologize for not reading the entire thread first, but after viewing the video I am have two impressions of the walking feature: 1. it walks like Frankenstein's monster 2. it reminds me of a baby deer trying to walk for the first time. Kinda neat, but :-/ Quote
EyesOnly Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Man that thing sure walks funny,i agree on the drunken look. In sweden the price is the same as 8421 which is way to expensive. Anyone wanting to build this could just download the instructions from Dark Side Developer kit since it uses the same legs. Quote
lucajuventino Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) Is my imagination, or Luke has a chromed lightsaber? In the part list looks like bley, but in some pictures it shines... It is a chrome silver lightsaber. Has it ever fallen over while walking? No, its walking is stable and smooth. Luca Edited September 19, 2007 by lucajuventino Quote
aayla-secura Posted September 19, 2007 Author Posted September 19, 2007 luca , could you possible take a photo of the figs? Especially General Veers , tanks!! Aayla Quote
