JaydenIrwin Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) This ship is one of my favourite ships from Star Wars, it's the first ship you'll ever see while watching the saga! It's 292 pieces and comes with 4 stickers on the front area. The escape pod below the cockpit will detach, and the landing gear can be tilted up or down. Overall it's quite a beautiful ship! TheNerdyOne_ Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 This looks great! I love ships at this scale, they have a certain charm to them. Usually I like to leave some criticism, but I can't see anything to really criticize here. The Consular was never really my favorite ship, but this is definitely accurate. Quote
GuyDudeMan27 Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I really love this ships design, and you captured it perfectly. I thought te second picture was from the Lego Star Wats game XD. I'd love to see some more ships in this scale Quote

Kristof Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Since I first saw the opening scene of Episode I, this cruiser remains being my favorite small SW ship. I really like your recreation, great scale choice (small but leaving plenty of room for detail). Mid section of the hull is nearly perfect, although you could have tried and fill these triangular gaps between the side panels with at least few bricks or some greebles (there is rather plain surface in the original ship). There are several aspects I don't like that much and I think most of them mainly result from you taking the Lego 7665 set as a refference. Your engine cylinders are to small agains the rest of the hull making whole engine part way narrower. According to following picture, the rear part is more than twice as wide as the mid section. This might, however, not have an easy solution - making 5-6 stud wide cylinder is tricky task. The other part that could be improved in my opinion is the 'escape pod' underneath the cockpit. First of - it's not supposed to be an escape pod at all - Lego just included this feature which makes sense for their playset but I don't see why would you implement that in this scale. Originally, this cruiser has some small escape pods comming out from the mid section. Of course that you can design your features whathever you like but as far as you want to stay movie accurate, this is not real :) Secodly it's hard to achieve that very special truncated cone shape and regarding the scale, one probably has to accept basic cylinder as a substitute. Though I think those 1x1 round plates in the front aren't beneficial and have rather negative impact on the overal look. I'd personally leave these studs uncovered. Please note that I'm only saying this becuase the model is really great and not far from being perfect :) I'm also aware that you might know very well about these issues and have some particular reasons for building your model in such way. Of course I also supported this on Ideas, along with your Landing Ship (which I like even more). Good luck with both of them! Quote
Mr Man Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I'd agree that the engine section needs to be wider, but it's still a reasonable job. Have you thought about modelling the Charger refit? Quote

Have you thought about modelling the Charger refit? No, it's basically the same ship, so I choose this one because of it's movie appearance and the more vibrant colors! Quote

JaydenIrwin Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Update Cleaner Cylinder The previous LEGO model of this ship allowed the front cylinder to detach as an "escape pod", so using this as a guide I also made the front detach. Krisandkris12 later pointed out that the front cylinder is not actually support to be an escape pod, LEGO just added that for playability. This gave me more freedom to use different bricks in that area, that don't have to detach this time, and also let the cylinder connect more securely. I didn't photoshop the stickers on this photo, but you can still see it looks a lot clearer. Since I first saw the opening scene of Episode I, this cruiser remains being my favorite small SW ship. I guess I shouldn’t have assumed the previous LEGO model was accurate. I have tried going through all the bricks again to find any that would fit in that extremely small triangle gap, and literally all I can fit there is a 2x2 circle tile. The slightly smaller engines I can't do much about, but I've removed the escape pod, and cleaned up the look of it by removing those 1x1 tiles. Thanks for your support, I hope you like this just a little bit more! :) Edited August 27, 2015 by JaydenIrwin Quote
Kristof Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 It's great how fast did you respond and come with changes! Front part looks way better now, will be even better with that missing sticker. I'm not sure about that round tile as a gap filler - it doesn't look very genuine. I can imagine that finding the right part is tricky (I enjoyed plenty of this with my Venator especially :D ) but have you thought about some stacked plates or some basic greeble? You aren't limited to something that's facing front. Quote
