Furniture cool! could we make a whole rooms furniture or just one piece?

e.g: bed, lamp, chair, wardrobe

or just bed?

:-D :-D :-D Just beds! I will host a bed-building only contest! ;-)

No, seriously, it can be a furniture set or one single piece. I will post details within the week!

Furniture you say ? That gonna be a toughie |-/ But I'm up to the challenge X-D

Only one things bugs me with the idea: there are loads of incredible furniture on BS, so how to insure that MOCs posted are not stolen ?

How about a keychain display system in a space theme?

You and your key chains :-P

Thata smilie intended for other things than jokes !!

Next time, use the appropriate smilie :-| (see how its intended ? and I'm far from joking !!)

Jokes smilies are these since you don't even know them: :-D , X-D and :-P Apart from those, do not get suprised if you're not understood properly !!

I think I can honestly say that this is the very first time it's happened, so I'll be extra careful to be completely clear. I even made a note of it in my sig so there won't be any misunderstandings or hard feelings. I think of this as a place to share good mocs, good information, and most of all, good times, and we certainly don't want anything spoiling that. I'm sorry that I wasn't clearer.

Relax Billboard man !! no worries at all !! Water under the bridge and all that ;-)

Its just that sometimes when you don't really know the members, wrong smilies can lead to miscomprehension ;-)

My vote goes for Sinner and his tugboat. I like the proportion of the boat, not tto long, not too small, with a classic touch.

It was a very hard choice with all those nice entries...

I have to admit, under different circumstances you would have had my vote. IF this had been a "city moc that lego could actually produce or that harkens back to those great 80's sets", it would have been all you. I like creations that actually look like something you could really build without having to go crazy and take up half your collection. *y*

As the competition stands, you would have honestly been my 3rd vote, does that make us passing acquaintances? ;-)

Hooray! Sinner got a vote! Well-deserved in my opinion. It, like many entries in this contest, is severely under-rated. Great entry Sinner, I'm glad to see someone appreciated it with a vote. And I'm not surprised it's sweet Mr. Alex, the lovable french talking stingray! No one loves classic town more, and Siegfried, your entry is a classic :'-) I have to go...

Am I as predictable? 8-| :-P

That was the problem with this contest. When I entered everyones were possible retail sets and thus mine fit in well. However, by the end mine looked very unimpressive and I doubted that I would get many votes. It's all my wifes fault; when she saw it she thought I would win and said I would cause trouble after winning the smackdown. Well I proved her wrong! X-D I did go back and pimp it up a bit, but I probably shouldn't have wasted my time. :'-( Luckily, like the Fire Engine Competition, I built it more because I actually wanted it so it doesn't bother me. I couldn't have made it any bigger as it needed to match the new container ship. In fact the original design was slightly bigger but I felt the pilot house was too tall. I was trying to make this...

post-1554-1190935956.jpg

...but if I made it to minifig scale it would have been the same size as the container ship. :-D (I wouldn't have had enough black anyway.) It will be de-Walrused soon...

It is a shame that there wasn't another truck or boat as we could have had two sections. Next time I think you should have weight categories. I'll discuss this with you later... 8-| You are winning at the moment; does that mean gylman is really winning? *wacko*

Perhaps, but you are the only one who stood up for me. :'-)

*sweet* Have I been naughty?! :-$ Yay!

You are winning at the moment; does that mean gylman is really winning?

That means gylman has won! I declare Gylman the coolest candian ever and the winner fo the New City Ideas Contest!

Congratulations. Now I have to Bricklink your megablocks to make you a cool avatar. :-P

Errrm... ah... actually you won Hinckie.

And deservedly so. Yours was more of a work of art while mine was an explosion of colour and silliness.

Really, all the entries were great, showed me new things and ideas, and I'd be proud to say I was able to make any of them, or put any of them on my desk.

Of course, if I put anything more on my desk, even one more keychain, I'd be doing my work on the floor.

Now, about this "avatar" business..... it's not going to involve whacking is it??? :'-( 8-

I respectively dissagree. Your's was an explosion of color, creativeness, and studless-interior, which looks great *y* . :-) . A work of art...some might say.

Congratulations Hinckley!

Congrats Gylman! A lot of detail and thought and effort, not to mention half your display collection, went into that beauty! Great job! *y*

Congratulations to everyone and thanks for participating in my contest. I was very happy to host such a creative event. I'll start the next one this evening unless someone else would like to run a City contest...

And I'm still thanking the one kind soul who voted for my entry, whoever that may have been ;-)

New contest going to be imperialshadows friendly and take LDD entries within the limits of reason and fair play? I'd even be willing to work under a # of parts limit, and build the real model as well, scouts honour.

Congrats Gyl for your winning entry !! A very well deserved one !! (Hey I know I voted for you :-D )

And yes, I agree totally with you Sinner that if we do this type of thing again, there should be some way of limiting the resources that can be brought to the table. A weight limit is a clever idea. I've never seen this before. The easier way would be just to limit the baseplate footprint of course, just like with vigs.

I really don't think that is a good idea !!

Having different categories is one thing, but if I have to watch what I am building due to restrictions, I will never enter it !!

I don't mind finishing next to last when there are entries like Gyl and Hinckie in there !! We are definitly not in the same ballpark !!

I lovce freedom in building, and if I'm last I don't care !! Without freedom, contests are NO fun, its only competition... A definite no for me on tht issue !!

As I said in an earlier post, once I started this I really wanted it to be the best possible thing I could make, and it was more about that than about the competition. So, I definitely see where you're coming from, and I'm ok with it either way, Yoda.

Once I start, my preference is always to build the best that I can, and as an adult with money and a big collection I can bring more to the table than many can.

If it was all about the competition, some might perceive that as unfair, and I can't really fault them. And we don't want to discourage people from entering because they feel at a unfair disadvantage. On the other hand, I could point to the fact that time availability is probably more of a constraint than money.

Whatever. Both formats have a role. We should do whatever would get the most people excited and building fun stuff. I would normally be more likely to participate in an unrestricted build, although I like the idea of a weight restriction as a novelty, because that requires some thinking that we usually don't have to do...

I can't see any difference having a restriction like weight, to an accepted restriction like "must be built on a 8x8 plate". If anything, weight is less restrictive, especially if a weight is chosen that is about the same as a 1000 part set. While it certainly does limit options, it also makes the build more of a challenge, not just to win the contest, but to yourself. I like to try and think outside of the box, and restrictions force you to do so. But it's all a matter of opinion. :-)

I totally agree with you Gyl, the goal of these fun contests should be to better yourselves and not brag about beeing the best which doesn't say much because I'm sure a lot of voters will vote for the members they like rather than having a totally unbias opinion on the member and focus solely on the MOC itslef (I would love to be proved wrongon that ;-) ) !!

Sometimes tiny MOCs are just brilliant !!

Having interesting categories would add a little fairness to a freestyle contest ;-) After its all a question f contest and phrasing ;-)

I really don't agree with you Sinner because you can always expand a lot a normal 8x8 in all directions and that adds a lot of creativity without beeing a real restriction !!

Weight and other parameters for me are no fun restrictions !! Bettering yourself is great, but I way prefer liberty to achieve that goal ;-)

Ahh, but you may have noticed that I am too much of a "Self Servicer" to do that! :-$ If a competition says 8x8, I go for 8x8 and only allow about half a stud of overlap! :-| My attitude is that liberty is only good if it is liberty for all. For that reason I prefer to be a "Self Servicer", even if I lose because of it! After all, winning isn't the only point of it all; any excuse to play with Lego is good for me. :-D

(Hey! I have to type "Self Servicer" now? But I liked that shortcut! )
