Ahh, but you may have noticed that I am too much of a "Self Servicer" to do that! :-$ If a competition says 8x8, I go for 8x8 and only allow about half a stud of overlap! :-| My attitude is that liberty is only good if it is liberty for all. For that reason I prefer to be a "Self Servicer", even if I lose because of it! After all, winning isn't the only point of it all; any excuse to play with Lego is good for me. :-D

(Hey! I have to type "Self Servicer" now? But I liked that shortcut! )

Self Servicer :-D Thats a good one Sinner :-P

I do use the term overlapping seriously lool Just look at my Jar Jar entry !!

And off course its liberty for all !! But liberty doesn't mean obligation !! You can do iit but you don't have to do it !! I just see ias a way of strecthing things !!

And I don't enter to win, but to have fun building something that I like !! And like I said before, if there are rules, I don't see the fun it it |-/ So I am not going for any excuses like you :-P I don't need excuses at all X-D

I can't see any difference having a restriction like weight, to an accepted restriction like "must be built on a 8x8 plate". If anything, weight is less restrictive, especially if a weight is chosen that is about the same as a 1000 part set. While it certainly does limit options, it also makes the build more of a challenge, not just to win the contest, but to yourself. I like to try and think outside of the box, and restrictions force you to do so. But it's all a matter of opinion. :-)

Time for me to weigh in on this matter, :-D

Weight is silly. I can't see people weighing their creations to enter. Plus all you non-Americans use that silly illogical metric crap! I'd have to convert. ;-) That's a joke people! Don't jump down my throat about it. I would rather have the metric system as it makes much more sense!

Anyway, perhaps what might make more sense here is a piece count limit or different piece count categories. And I'm not saying like 300 bricks, but break it up by the thousands. Age categories might work too, but it's supposed to be 18 and up + good 13-18 year olds, so who knows how we would enforce that, really.

I tend to agree more with Yoda that there shouldn't be limits. However, the 50 piece limit jipay and I are using with the smackdown is a blast and I would love to run a contest like that because it is a challenge! 8-|

But, if these are not contests I don't think as many people would join. If it were just a "showcase" it's not as exciting. I am not the type of person to get discouraged if I don't place well in a poll. However, I know some people might get discouraged, so maybe there is a way to make contests more "fair"... Maybe if there were different categories for this contest there would have been more entries. Who knows? But, it's a catch 22, if there would have been more entries, I would've needed more categories. Perhaps next time we can make a stipulation between classic and modular and have a separate category for vehicles.

I plan to have another contest like this after the furniture one because I love to see Town building out there! Continue to let me know your thoughts (as long as they don't involve weighing your creation :-| ) so I can get as many people involved in the next one as possible! Woo-hoo!! :-D

D'OH !! *wacko* And I thought you were bloody serious X-D

Well fairness is something really hard to achieve in a matter that pleases everybody !!

I don't like that too strict category for several reasons !!

First if there is only 1 vehicle, that members win that category without a competition ?? Thats absurd !!

Then take my entry for instance: its modular BUT its really small and not very complex, so should it compete again Barbossa, Gyl and you ??

What I think would work best, is having imaginative categories not based on the MOC itslef !! Something along the line of Most fun entry, most probable Lego release and yada yada yada. You catch my drift on that concept ;-) I think that would be the more fair we could achieve !!

Imagine a member entering a small fountain which is a true thing of beauty, it could easilly win one category, even if competing with the skill level and details of Gyl and your entries ;-)

But please no rules, just freestyle fun for those contests !!

Like you said, if you want more challenging rules, call it a smackdown limited to say 6/8 participants and then edit all the stricter rules as you see fit ;-)

Different types of competitions, different level of rules and evrybody is a happy builder :-P Even I would enter one of these smackdown for the fun of it ;-)

Contests On !!

I agree. The Jelly and Fire Engine competitions have categories and I am curious how they will go.

I have a different idea for the next contest that I'm much more excited about. Sorry to get anyone's hopes up about the furniture competition, but we'll do that some other day. Look for a new fun contest in the next couple of days. In the meantime, I have a walrus to smackdown and I have to start concentrating on that!

If hinckley is making an avatar as a prize, what happens if he wins? He is winning right now. I voted for him. *sweet*

Actually this comp is over. Gylman won as Hinckley was not eligible to win.

Several weeks later, I got my gylman in the mail and am prepared now to hand out the grand prize for the contest:

Enjoy Gylman! Great job again.

And Sinner, don't worry. I didn't forget about you. Here's the consolation prize for being the only boat entry and bitching endlessly about it:

Awww, thanks! *wub* Double boat rides are such fun! Perhaps we should have a boat competition? ;-)

He said he doesn't like violence. (He's canadian, you know) But everyone likes cheeseburgers! Even vegetarians!

There is a lot of truth to that. Even their Navy ships are friendly; they are the only ships I know of that has a bar for junior sailors! X-O Also, even though they made the TV series "Beast Wars", it wasn't allowed to be aired using that name. In Canada they called it "Beasties"! Such nice people. *sweet*

Are you sure about that? 8-|

Hey thanks!!! My new avatar!

You bought a Maxifig just for me??? :'-) Jeez..... you're bringing a tear to my eye.

But it's great. I look much more youthful. Through the combination of cleaner plastic and a better camera and photoediting skills, you've shaved years off my looks. Truly an example of "plastic" surgery. Although it doesn't show in the picture, I am certain that my ABS are much firmer than before. Maybe I even have the 6-pack back. Dunno, will have to leave that to your imagination.

The short sleeve shirt suits me well, and I agree that the brown corduroy flarebottom pants had to go. But I'll always have those memories of doing the Hustle at the local disco.

Thanks Hinckley. It rocks. Great makeover.

Now I'm off to pick up some hot new femifig tail! Grrrrrrrrroooooowwwwwwllllllllllllllllll

That's what's nice about the maxi-fig. It only takes a slight hair adjustment to make them look younger:

See? ;-)

OMG. All those years, and I never realized that. LMFAO. Too funny.

I wish I could do that with my real life hair. :-(

Why not? Some Canadians have been doing that trick for decades now...
