Thirdwigg Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Friends, It took a little too long, much like the ATS, but the MD600N if finally done. Much more at thirdwigg.com, and the Flickr album can be found here. As I child I would see the MD600N and MD520N flying up and around my house. It was time to honor the love for the aircraft. The MOC has the following features: Opening Doors Working dual Joysticks Working dual Foot Pedals Working collective lever Swashplate Collective control (much thanks to Efferman for many components of the design) Swashplate Cyclic control NOTAR rotation Six bladed rotor PF L drive with LiPo Battery Working Landing skids (I mention this only because getting it to support the MOC and not tip over was quite a task) Seating for eight I hope you all enjoy. JJ2 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Amazing, just amazing! I love how you did the "blades" with adjustable pitch. Quote
DrJB Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Beautiful! ... I just learned something new today: Yes, there is no tail rotor, but there is an air jet coming laterally from the tail, to counter the rotation of the main rotor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOTAR Quote
garethjellis Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Very nice and accurate model.!! You have done very well to not only incorporate the collective swash plate control but also the cyclic control. Brilliant!! Quote
D3K Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Great build! It's a lot bigger than it seems initially! Not a super fan of all the studs on the tail boom, but it's a nice solution! Quote
Thirdwigg Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Great build! It's a lot bigger than it seems initially! Not a super fan of all the studs on the tail boom, but it's a nice solution! Yeah, I played with a number of Technic ideas for the tailboom, but this one looked the best. All the solutions were too big, or too small, or empty looking. Quote
Imanol BB Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 very amazing helicopter, what about if you use 3x2x11 technic curved panels for the tail? Quote
Thirdwigg Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 very amazing helicopter, what about if you use 3x2x11 technic curved panels for the tail? I tried that. Three problems: blue parts from 42042 were out of my budget and timeframe, the diameter for the scale would be incorrect, and the boom would not be cylindrical. Quote
Trawler Man Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I'm not a helicopter person, but this is fantastic. I love the blue and the studded tail. Very well done. Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I really like the six-bladed rotor design, you got any more detailed pictures of the assembly? Quote
Thirdwigg Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 I really like the six-bladed rotor design, you got any more detailed pictures of the assembly? Glad you like it.I only have this picture, which you may find with higher resolution here. The MOC is still built, so I can take some more pictures tonight to give you a little more information on the construction of the head. Stay tuned. Quote
filsawgood Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Very nice creation! we need more aircraft! :) Quote
Bricksonwheels Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Great work! I love the design of this. Quote
BusterHaus Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Great rotor head, and the blue colour is very sweet. The landing skis look like they should be a bit longer in the back, even if it would not be to scale. Quote
Thirdwigg Posted August 30, 2015 Author Posted August 30, 2015 I really like the six-bladed rotor design, you got any more detailed pictures of the assembly? Zblj, here are two pictures of the assembly. Let me know if you need more. Full res here. Quote
