Svelte Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Troll is great. Cute but thuggish! In the Dwarf Mining set I don't think that's ordinary tan though - is it dark tan? The troll looks better in sand green, definitely. The Orcs are OK. I'm not so keen on some of these ses. I read the classic-castle interview with the 2007 designers about the marketing move to fantasy and don't mind this generally, but I think the joust/ catapult sets are more suitable MF scale with the big main castle rather than oversized catapults and battering rams. The catalog pic of the Dwarf Mining shot from below rather than above looks a lot more impressive. I had to check to see if the first one released was a prototype, but they are identical - just look very different. The ship is OK, I agree it is like a cut-down Vikings ship, but for the poster who thought the green dragon was smaller - I don't think it is, if you look at the pieces they seem to be the same as the red/ black dragons, just foreshortened in this particular picture. Tomcat RIO Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 (edited) wow... i could play out a massive, medival fantasy England/Europe now, with all the castle factions from previous years.. Robin Hood and his forestmen versus the Trolls(think elves in their woody homes defedig against troll invasion), original '95 Dragon Knights and the old type dragons against the new dragons, Dwarfs smiting their sledgehammer way through weak KK2 swordsmen or heck, Sir Vladek marching at the head of the army of black skeletons and orcs going to war with an alliance of the 2007 King Leo and the 1995 King Leo. :-D and then they all get invaded by vikings..(oops haha) i feel this might be a 1st wave for 2008.. cuz i feel that the dwarfs can really be expanded, like a great Dwarf Hall, or a Dwarf caves More dwarves please!. Followed up by a big Orc Fortress set. And , if i dare to dream, a Castle Chess set featuring dwarfs on 1 side and orcs/goblins/trolls on the other. Now That, would be an army builder set. gylman Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 This doesn't look like Lego to me.... :-( I don't want to say what it looks like, but it rhymes with "stinky socks". Sorry. But, I guess it will probably be popular, so that's good. Quote
hollisbrick Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I don't want to say what it looks like, but it rhymes with "stinky socks". Good thing you said stinky socks because if u said M*** b***** I would go blind X-D Hmmm but your right they look a bit un lego like but still pretty kool Quote
Batbrick Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 (edited) I personally don't think it looks like (shudder) Megablocks :-X , sure, some of the sets aren't as good as this years, but the Troll Attackship, and attack on the tower are great sets. Dwarfs Mining may have a little juniorisation to it, but I think it is an excellent set overall. I give two *y* up to tlc for expanding this line and making it so epic! *wub* Up and Atom! :-) Edited September 27, 2007 by Batbrick Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 So, are there any pics of the troll battlecar yet? :-$ Quote
Batbrick Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 So, are there any pics of the troll battlecar yet? :-$ Not yet TinyPiesRUs, but keep your eyes peeled! :-) Also be on the lookout for the two impulse sets, Sentry and Sorcerer! ;-) Up and Atom! :-) Quote
ScottManDeath Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I smell another buying spree of mine coming up :-$ Though I am not sure whether I like the "furry" hair of the small green dudes :-/ Quote

Welcome to EB Tomcat Rio ;-) I think like you that this is a first wave !! I'm sure 2008 will see more of that Castle line ;-) I'm pretty sure we'll see some more dwarves sets !! I wonder if we'll see more skellies !! Now that we have mainly 4 factions: crownies, undead according to BL, Dwarvies and trollies (yeay I know I'm putting orcs and trolls in the same ;-) ), I think in wave 2 TLC has to integrate them all instead of too much expanding on 1 or 2 factions ;-) I am sure we'll see a new chess set with dwarves and orcs, after all they did it with crownies and skellies ;-) This doesn't look like Lego to me.... :-( I don't want to say what it looks like, but it rhymes with "stinky socks". Sorry. But, I guess it will probably be popular, so that's good. Actually I think its quite hilarious tht among the older members (that had Lego during its golden age - 80's !!) only Vader and I seem to really love that line :-D I don't think it looks too MBish (can't say the forbiden word X-D ). I think its really a good integration of Lego modernity mixed with classic accessories toped with a fantadtic fantasy feel !! And I totally agree with your positive attitude ;-) I don't like Bionicle but if that line sells well I am happy for Lego and by extension for us fans !! Good selling lines are alaways a win/win situation wether you like them or not ;-) Without SW and Bionicle, I am sure we wouldn't be here today ;-) *yoda* Quote
Vader Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 You know i don't view these sets as megablok copies i just see them as a natural progression from the older sets, lets face it the older ones didn't sell well from what i've heard. So i'm not surprised lego have decided to shake things up a little, kids and adults from what i've read really love the new direction. Welcome to our newbies, glad you could join us :-) So i wonder apart from a fig what else might be included in the impulse sets? Quote
alex54 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I'm not so exited by those sets... I have imagined them better... The 07 lineup is so cool, great design, great minifigs, great accessories, great building experience with a lot of small pieces compared to KK. And here, we just have good minifigs and accessories (the draws are so cute!), but the design looks like a KK 3 line... So sad! And I have hoped to see some more skellies... Maybe the third wave will bring another knights and skeletons sets... Quote
Starwars4J Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Meh, to each his own I guess, I love these! Sure, I would have preferred humans vs. human, but I do like the new goblins! The trolls aren't as bad as I thought either! The dwarfs are great, and all those accessories! *wub* I can't wait Quote

gylman Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 My personal disappointment with these sets comes from the fact that these sets appear to involve very little building. The joy of building a Lego castle, to me, has been to see how it starts to form as you build it from the ground up. These sets have a nice collection of bits and bobs, neat parts, etc, but they look like they are meant to be assembled and posed, not built. This was exactly what I said about the StinkySocks Pyrate ship a couple of days ago in another thread. To me, they look like the Belville equivalent of Castle. Dumbed down so the child can put them together and play with them right away, without having to spend the time and effort of actually building anything. I am sure these will make for some great battle scenes and dioramas, but any real structure we build for such scenes will have to come from another source. Only the 7094 castle in the current lineup has anything worth building, and even this does not appear to be much of a build for a model of 973 parts. Quote
TheFrisian Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 i'm in my 30s, so i have lego during the 80s too. :-P and i like the new theme. :-P I'm not yet 30, but same goes for me as well. I really like the styling of the new Castle theme, the metallic parts, colorscheme, heraldry and minifigs are in my opinion a major improvement. (And I'm still itching to get my hands on one of those great chainmail horse bardings! Anyone got a spare?) But I do admit that the buildings of the Classic Castle themes were much better designed, more solid looking and more realistic. I'd love to see better and more interesting builds, even if that means they will be more expensive. But if you want something to be done right, you'll probably have to do it yourself. Which reminds me of the LEGO slogan: JUST IMAGINE... Quote

Corvus Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 So i wonder apart from a fig what else might be included in the impulse sets? I'd say very small things that most of us would throw out. Maybe weapons racks, small catapults like from 7009? Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Well, there is no doubt that Castle will be sweet in 2008. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Quote
hollisbrick Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I really like these sets. It's good that TLC is doin something different and new. The only bad thing is that we have to wait til April to get these :-( Quote
