Mile85 Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I think that, playing CHESS with that board is pretty confusing *wacko* Quote

Vader Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I agree, but who would buy it so they could play chess X-D :-P I'm betting that there's alot of AFOL out there that sure will, i'm not one of them and even i would be tempted. Quote
Batbrick Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I'm betting that there's alot of AFOL out there that sure will, i'm not one of them and even i would be tempted. It'd be confusing as heck you can be sure about that, but a lot funner than average chess, which is still a fun game. Sadly, I've decided that as good as this is, I won't buy it. Reasons are: 1. I no doubt will not be able to afford it. The current chess set is expensive enough. 2. I want other things, Lego or not. I have seasons 1 and 2 of Batman: The Animated Series to purchase, as well as a few graphic novels I'm craving, not to mention the fantastic other Lego sets coming. 3. Ultimately, as great as it is, its an army builder, and I'll do that with the other sets and save myself the money. I'm still sad though, its a truly magnificent surprise. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote

Hinckley Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I hope this set won't be glued together like the other Chess sets. That would be a real bummer. What a beautiful set! It's parts Monkey/Army Builder Heaven! *wub* Quote

I'd like try chess with that, even though, it would be impossible. But I must say, I prefer chess with "little snaps glasses" filled with vodka. X-D or how do you say it in english? Quote
sam89 Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 You're right about both the Calendar and the Chess set! Btw, how did you figure it's $150 bucks? A guess? I was thinking more along the lines of 60-70 USD! look.gif The first one was 40 USD, so I figure a little up from that. Well this new set has well over 1000 pieces. I think it's going to be $100+. It seems they've realised the pointlessness of gluing their chess set since the last. Beside, with so many pieces and the size of the thing, if they glued it, it'd be hell for packaging and shipping. It won't be glued, that's for sure, because this is set is pointed directly to AFOLs. Older chess sets were probably meant for younger people, and meant to be played, not building an army... but it's still stupid to glue lego. Quote
metalandi Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 don't think it will be glued, the last one wasn't either. Quote
frogstudio Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 First of all, sorry for my stark hello... Hi to everyone out there and a big greeting from Argentina!!! About the following: On to point B:You're right about both the Calendar and the Chess set! Btw, how did you figure it's $150 bucks? A guess? I was thinking more along the lines of 60-70 USD! 8-| The first one was 40 USD, so I figure a little up from that. I came to this price by calculating the number of pieces in the se. You've got 576 black and white tiles + 1 48 x 48 baseplate + an average of 7 pieces per minigif (totaling at least 224 pieces) + an average of 10 pieces per element on the sides (that's 200 pieces more, I counted 20 of those elements on the sides of the boards) + all the stuf going on in the backs of the board and the towers (didn't count them but there must be, at least 500 pieces there) + 4 horses + luxury packagge box..... So that adds, aproximately, 1500 pieces.... Town plan count 1900 pieces cost U$S 149.99.- , but it comes in a plain cardboard box while this chess set would come in a har covered book style box, with laminated printing (I guess because of previous chess sets), some kind of closing mechanism (velcro/magnet/who knows...). That's how I made my guess.... :) Quote
iamded Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Not to mention this definately has far more than double the pieces of the last one, so it should be far more than double the price. I believe the last ones were 50 USD, so this one will be well priced at 150 USD. Although the price exchange is a bit unfair. The 50USD chess set is 95NZD, but 50 USD translates to about 65-70NZD. :-/ That means when I should be paying 200NZD for a 150USD set, it'll end up being a lot more. |-/ ~Peace Quote
TheFrisian Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Yep, the pictures are directly from LEGO's cache ;-) Just when I thought things couldn't get much better :'-) Quote
Batbrick Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 That would have been my reaction, but instead I harnessed my excitement and released it via an observation of all the different bits and pieces. And I don't mean that in a negative way towards you, you've worded my first impression of this flawlessly! :-D ~Peace Me too, I had that impression and still kinda do. But do you plan on getting it iamded? Or will it be too much? Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
iamded Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Me too, I had that impression and still kinda do. But do you plan on getting it iamded? Or will it be too much?Batbrick Away! >:-) Well that all depends on where and when I get a job. X-D But I really really want it, I may have to pass on getting doubles of the sets, and sticking to the bare minimum... :'-( ~Peace Quote
Brainbox Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 (Hmm... I've missed another piece of news |-/ ) Wow, look at that chess set. That is just so cool. Mere words cannot describe my current feelings with regards this set. Unfortunately, it'll probably cost a fortune, and in a year already loaded full of purchase and expenditure, both Lego and non-Lego, that's not a good thing. And I don't know if I can justify it as I don't (and can't) really play chess... no, scrap that, it's good for army-building. I mean, 9 dwarves!? But can I really get it? Forget the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything, this is the biggie. Quote
UniqueBuilder Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 one more! A huge Castle Chess! *sweet* ORGASMIC! *wub* *wub* Finally they decided to use tiles instead of those pesky studs. :-P :'-) Just like real chess! *y* Must Have On Quote
Kukla Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I was having trouble deciding if I should invest in the new Castle line or pick up city again. I think this just made my choice a lot easier *wub* . Quote
Andrex Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Simply stunning! I'm not a fan of chess or the Lego Castle series as a whole, but this is mindnumbingly.. wow.. :-D. I love it! Quote
