Belloq Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Damn you LEGO, Damn you to hell!!!! The year I finally leave my dark ages, the year my devotion to Lego completely returns is the year Lego decides to be evil and use up all their best cards. New chess set that FINALLY includes towers and thrones and horses, an awesome Green Grocer, and a very cool Town plan, and the entire Indiana JOnes Line up, and Speed Racers, some Star Wras, some Clone Wars (that include two sets I ALWAYS wanted!!!(RGS& At-TE, along with minifigs I've dreamed of having( too many to list!!!) and great Castle sets, like the troll attackship. I think I picked the riht time to go back into Lego, I began to feel seduced again by mid 2007, when I saw all the new batsets, but now, now that I am part of a community of fans, I feel like I'm finally home, where I belong, and I feel like I'm recieving this whole welcome back feast!!! It''s all so beautiful!!! :'-) The only problem...my wallet is taking some major blows!! I'm having such a hard time deciding what to buy!! :'-( One question though, what do you think the troll queen will look like? Quote
Icesaber Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Wow. I'm really impressed by that chess set. It's huge and detailed. I really what looks like the rooks on the corner for skellies and the sideline barriers. I want all of these but I can't afford it :'-( . Quote
Zarkan Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I'm personally not very excited about this set. I'm not really an army builder, so buying this set as a minifigure pack, isn't all that appealing. I also don't know many people who play chess, so to me, its usefulness as a chess set is minimal too. Aesthetically, I don't find it very pleasing. It looks too big and crowded, so I can't see using it as a display piece.Given all that, I'd find it hard to drop $100 on it, when I could put that $100 towards other sets (i.e. Grocer, the whole '08 Castle line-up, PaB, bricklink purchases, etc.). So I'll probably have to pass on this one. I was more excited about it when I first saw the pictures, then after a couple of hours, I found my feelings had cooled significantly. Maybe I'll feel differently later. Ah, always ready to be negative, aren't you Athos? :-P (J/K) But yeah, this is kinda really just a "army builder's dream kit" kinda deal. Still, it looks like it has a ton of weapons and castle related molds, plus a great combination of the two good factions (humans and dwarves) and the two bad factions (skellies and ogres/trolls/orks/ugly green monster thingys). *sweet* Now, if only I was an AFOL, instead of a financially restrained 15 year old.... 8-| X-D Quote
legobear Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 (edited) I'm a poor college kid, what am I going to do??? TLG is putting out TOO MANY great sets, there I said it... :'-( My goal for 2008 in terms of LEGO was to get the dwarves Vs Orcs set ($50 USD one). Whyyy Whyyy did they make it so insanely crazy T.T * :'-( CRIES ENDLESSLY :'-( * . Sometimes I feel like LEGO throws in one or two extra bits to raise the prices of their sets $10-$20 USD but this time around........OH GOD NO it actually is a seriously cool set :'-( My dreams are ruined!!! If I want to get my orcs and dwarves in one place, I have to put down at least $150 :'-( oh god no, the price of CHESS SET X 3 !!!!! *cry* :'-( Is this LEGO's way of saying..."nah ar... you want our dwarves and orcs, you pay premium, don't think you're going to get it easily by paying $50". What IF they do a Battle Pack for Dwarves, and a Battle Pack for Orcs, what then? Headache... Edited February 7, 2008 by legobear Quote
blueandwhite Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 But yeah, this is kinda really just a "army builder's dream kit" kinda deal. It's an impressive set, but it isn't exactly what you'd call an army builder. With so many pieces to make up the board, this isn't exactly an affordable way to amass an Army. If this is around the $150 that alot of fans (including myself) are projecting, then we are actually paying a whopping $6.00 (US) a fig. This price will undoubtedly be even more inflated for those of us who aren't blessed with US pricing. If you're looking to build armies, this set probably shouldn't be your first choice :-( . Quote
Looking for a display name Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 one more! A huge Castle Chess! *sweet* WOW DUDE ima gettin one o those for shure! thats the ULTIMATE BATTLE PACK!! Quote
kill will Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Too much money :'-( WHERE IS THE ADVENT CALENDER? Everyone is talking about it and I haven't seen it yet *skull* *skull* *wub* Awesome chess set though. *wub* *wub* *wub* *wub* Quote
Lost Viking Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 That is bloody awesome! I have always wanted to get a chess set and I am glad that I waited! 2008 is getting better and better! Thank you sooo much for all of these pics Whung! Quote
Corvus Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 :-D I vote we add this to the list. :-D The chess set... Wow. Big. I like it, but it seems waaaay too crowded. :-/ Will Quote
iamded Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) But can I really get it? Forget the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything, this is the biggie. The answer is... 42. X-D ORGASMIC! *wub* *wub* Finally they decided to use tiles instead of those pesky studs. :-P :'-) Just like real chess! *y* Must Have On You mean real chess doesn't have studs?! :-P One question though, what do you think the troll queen will look like? Troll Queen? They exist? :-P Seriously, when did we hear about a troll queen? The chess set has the wizard from Skeleton Tower and the witch from the advent calendar for the evil King and Queen. ~Peace Edited February 8, 2008 by iamded Quote
Batbrick Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) The answer is... 42. They exist? :-P Seriously, when did we hear about a troll queen? That witch does though, I can't wait to see her face, I hope it isn't like the Fright Knights witch. Oh, and the scene I referred to was when Arthur rolled out a heap of homemade scrabble pieces to try and spell out the ultimate question :-P So my castle list this year is less focues on multiples, I want to get all the set I want, THEN BTAS and comicbooks, THEN doubles. Holodoc Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Wow! Thank you very much for posting it on the front page! I guess I speak for a lot of other AFOLs when I say: I Quote
nausicaakro Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Wow very excited about this huge monster minifigs set! for me this is NOT a battle pack, (too much $ for ratio minifigs), but anyway this castle chess is a must! *y* Boys, this little gem will cost 150$ (149,99 euros, for european) but in a lack of 10 years it will be a monster price on e-bay! so, buy 2, one for you and your (future or actual) children (and play chess whit it!) and one for future collectors... lego + chess *wub* sorry for this bad english, but I'am too excited for check grammatical mistakes... nausicaakro Quote

You can get all those figs from BL for far less. Still it is simply stunning to look at, i very rarely see a set that i don't want to mod but this sure is one of them. Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 battle wheel is now in lego.com's colouring pages: http://cache.lego.com/upload/contentTempla...CF93BEFB19E.pdf Quote
Shakar Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 True, this isn't an army builder, we have Bricklink and the Battle Packs for that. The thing is, this is so wonderful that it is a must for me. It's almost like a miniature monument- definitely an AFOL (and TFOL) set. Shakar Quote
AmperZand Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 WHERE IS THE ADVENT CALENDER? Everyone is talking about it and I haven't seen it yet...It's not available in stores yet or even at S@H. There's a thread about it at the CC forum. Quote
Medievalego Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I too am a tad disappointed that we get yet another horse. I don't need anymore! See for yourself! What I need is some more troops. ~Peace To iamded and anyone else who doesn't want any more skelle horses: please send them to me. Thanks. The end. ~ M ~ Quote
Medievalego Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Wow, I really hope those battlepacks aren't magnets. Also, I really hope they cost less than $20. And less than $15. And if it's not too much to ask $10. ~ M ~ Quote

Medievalego Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Sorry to multi-post, this is the last one, I swear. But I just had to read through this entire thread and kept seeing things I wanted to respond too. *Phew*, done. Count on $100 minimum and S@H/LEGO Store exclusive, even if we are lucky enough to see this. That was my first thought too. Bare minimum this will cost $100USD, but in all likelihood more ($150 does seem a fair baseline). Still, I'll be awaiting more confirmation that this is, in fact, a real set. A few of the details, like some of the flags hanging off the back off the evil side of the board (and extra skellies hidden in the towers) seem a bit too elaborate for typical LEGO sets. But who knows, if this is running more along the lines of some of the Town sets that have been released like Corner Cafe etc and are geared at AFOLS and come with an expected higher price line, than perhaps it is real. Does anyone know how the Blacksmith's Shop fared as a set? Did it perform well in sales? It'd be nice to see some more actual castle sets (i.e. castles, or castle town buildings etc) released in more detailed versions, like their Town counterparts. Griping aside, I agree with most everyone, this looks to be an amazing year for Castle. :-$ I am going to start a war chest right now. Stock up gold stash to unleash it upon these sets come April, September, etc. :-D ~ M ~ Quote
sam89 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Still, I'll be awaiting more confirmation that this is, in fact, a real set. It's definitely real, as the pictures were taken from LEGO's cache. They've taken the pics down now, though. Quote
Zarkan Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 It's definitely real, as the pictures were taken from LEGO's cache. They've taken the pics down now, though. Yeah, I can just imagine it.... Lego Website Director (LWD): Okay, it's time we upload some more pictures of the current lineup to the cache.Clueless Website designer (CWD): Sure thing! *Later....* CWD: *yawn* They work me too hard... okay, Castle Chess set? Here we go, uploading... *Next Day* LWD: GAH! It's an emergency! *wacko* CWD: Wha? LWD: Look, somehow a picture of our top secret project, the Castle Chess set got uploaded to our website! Now that pesky eurobricks has circulated the picture through every major network of lego fans without an offical press release from us! This crime will not go without action! CWD: Er.... whoops. 8-| LWD: What have you done, you incompetent twit? >:-( CWD: :-$ :-D Quote
