The new torso doesn't look very armoured, it looks just like an undercoat for the armour piece, wheras the old torso had nice armour plating, and a big steel 'bib' thing with the crown symbol on it.

Really? I think its the other way around, the new torso has the armour underneath the patterning.

Indeed, I think of the old one as a standard soldier torso, while the other is for guards or lighter infantry. It doesn't look as good in large numbers as the old one.

It was common practice to wear a surcoat over your armour prior to the fifteenth century. The new torso also matches up with the older castle figs who wear similar designs. I actually prefer this design to the scalemale torsos of last year.

I like them both, why can't we all get along?

I think I might use the new torso as an "Army to the East" thing, a legion of troops assigned to defend against the troll invaders, while the old torso is situated somewhere else. Like a uniform for each sector.

Ooh, clever. I'll just have the newer troops as knights and guards, and the rest as the main army. Is this still on topic, as it is talking about the '08 torsos... 8-|

oh, never thought of that, great idea! the new torsos could be the more important knights and the old ones could be the not so important, and the other old ones could be even less important and so on ect ect

Yes, very true. Metal armour tended to get very warm in direct sunlight and to rust when exposed to rain, so a surcoat was worn over the armour to provide some protection against the weather. So the new torso actually quite accurately depicts how the average soldier would've looked like in the Middle Ages. It may come to no surprise that I therefore prefer the new torso for generic soldiers, using the scale armoured torsos for either elite soldiers or guards.

Yay!

And I'd say we were still on topic, since the 08 torsos are part of the 08 line :-P

Thanks, I'll have my men set up as different battalions, but I like iamded's idea, the new torso seems like a guard torso, something you would see in the castle.

I like that too.

I still hope that they bring out a skellie impulse without the horse though, as awesome as the chariot is I want some ground troops too.

Batbrick is Back! >:-)

you could just not use the horse and just the skele but then i guess you'll have to find a job for the horse :-/ mayby instead of using it as a chariot it could be a weapon carrier then you could use the skele as a ground soldier *y*

Good idea actually, but I'd still prefer not having a billion skellie horses. I'll definitely do that though. Oh well, looks like theres going to be a lot of skellie horses in my parts box.

I too am a tad disappointed that we get yet another horse. I don't need anymore! See for yourself!
