Batbrick Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 The new torso doesn't look very armoured, it looks just like an undercoat for the armour piece, wheras the old torso had nice armour plating, and a big steel 'bib' thing with the crown symbol on it.~Peace Really? I think its the other way around, the new torso has the armour underneath the patterning. Batbrick is Back! >:-) Quote

MagPiesRUs Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 (edited) Oooh. You bring up a good point. Well, I still prefer the original armour!! :-P ~Peace Indeed, I think of the old one as a standard soldier torso, while the other is for guards or lighter infantry. It doesn't look as good in large numbers as the old one. Edited January 19, 2008 by TinyPiesRUs Quote

It was common practice to wear a surcoat over your armour prior to the fifteenth century. The new torso also matches up with the older castle figs who wear similar designs. I actually prefer this design to the scalemale torsos of last year. Quote

I think I might use the new torso as an "Army to the East" thing, a legion of troops assigned to defend against the troll invaders, while the old torso is situated somewhere else. Like a uniform for each sector. Batbrick is Back! >:-) Quote

ScottManDeath Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 On http://castle.lego.com/en-us/Downloads/ColorPages.aspx, they posted a feew more of the .pdf files to print and color. TheFrisian Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 It was common practice to wear a surcoat over your armour prior to the fifteenth century. The new torso also matches up with the older castle figs who wear similar designs. I actually prefer this design to the scalemale torsos of last year. Yes, very true. Metal armour tended to get very warm in direct sunlight and to rust when exposed to rain, so a surcoat was worn over the armour to provide some protection against the weather. So the new torso actually quite accurately depicts how the average soldier would've looked like in the Middle Ages. It may come to no surprise that I therefore prefer the new torso for generic soldiers, using the scale armoured torsos for either elite soldiers or guards. Quote
hollisbrick Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 does any one know the release date for the *skull* impulse? Quote

And I'd say we were still on topic, since the 08 torsos are part of the 08 line :-P oh, never thought of that, great idea! the new torsos could be the more important knights and the old ones could be the not so important, and the other old ones could be even less important and so on ect ect Thanks, I'll have my men set up as different battalions, but I like iamded's idea, the new torso seems like a guard torso, something you would see in the castle. Siegfried Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Instructions for 5372 Skeleton Chariot Thanks Chuck! *sweet* There are a lot of others there too... Quote
DJ Force Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 So the Skeleton Chariot is an Impulse Set? Wow! I could see this being a huge seller! Quote
TheFrisian Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 It may list as an Impulse set, but it seems a bit larger to me than the current Impulse sets, so I would be pleasantly surprised if this still turns out to be a Quote

hollisbrick Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I like that too.I still hope that they bring out a skellie impulse without the horse though, as awesome as the chariot is I want some ground troops too. Batbrick is Back! >:-) you could just not use the horse and just the skele but then i guess you'll have to find a job for the horse :-/ mayby instead of using it as a chariot it could be a weapon carrier then you could use the skele as a ground soldier *y* Quote

I'll definitely do that though. Oh well, looks like theres going to be a lot of skellie horses in my parts box. Batbrick is Back! >:-) Quote
iamded Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I too am a tad disappointed that we get yet another horse. I don't need anymore! See for yourself! What I need is some more troops. ~Peace Quote
