This is the second most expensive Lego set EVER. (The first is the Millineum Falcon.)

Don't forget Death Star and Star Destroyer!

I wish we would get the price at the same time as the pics. We all get so excited just to be smashed down by a price tag like that. :'-( Well, at least I am...

and that chess is in preorder to finland and it costs 199e! holy pea soup :-X ! but with free shipping. blah, only good thing is that dwarves and giant trolls maybe goes cheaper in bricklink.

it says it has 31 minifigs, wouldn't we need 32 for a chess set. OK, I'm being facetious, I assume the trolls and/or horses they've also listed form some of the chess pieces and there could be a minifig or two jus tused for decorative purposes in the set.

For once, us Australians have done ok for price, in relative terms that is, I'm sure it will look beautiful, but $300, no thanks.

Um, WOW

There are almost 2500 pieces, though...I'm curious to see how this sells. That's a very very high price. Are the chess sets that popular? I would think there time would be better spent on a 2500 modular castle system. That would definitely sell, this is a risk...

EDIT: Interesting that the Green Grocer has about 2300 pieces and is half the price. I hope there is some mistake...

For us Australians, it's a similar price to green grocer as the chess set includes free shipping (minimum $30 at Lego's inflated Aus shipping prices). So to get a green grocer sets you back at least $280 Aus, so works out about the same per piece as the castle chess set.

Sweet mother of- *sing*

<deep breath>

Okay, so, this, or 3 and a half other chess sets.

Or Dwarves Mine, Troll Attack Ship, Tower Raid, Toll Assault Wagon, Dwarve's Mine Defence, and 6 Impulse sets. And still have change.

So sad... I guess I can't complete my collection. Darnit, if only TLC would hold some sort of competition with that as the prize.

I still don't get it though. Sure, you get wizards and giant trolls, but with two normal chess sets and four Impulse sets (making up for the rare figures and what-not) is still only 224 NZD, and this is 350! It's madness.

Well, at least the NZ price is reasonable compared to the US price for once..

And in New Zealand, you can get 3 and a half small chess sets for the same price, while in the US you can get 7 for the same price...

Regardless, I'm not buying it :-/

Well, I've got my fingers crossed that the same thing will happen to this in NZ as it did with the Café Corner. That was originally 270NZD but when a shipment was sent to selected stores (pre-order only, it's great when the store owner is also an AFOL ;-) ) it was only 200NZD. Perhaps this might happen with the chess Set... 8-| Please?... :'-(

That price is really unfortunate, cause the set is amazing! *wub*

I think it's a mistake. I find it hard to believe that the USD price is the same as the AUD price. I wouldn't be surprised if this error happened the same time as the Green Grocer one. I'd expect $200 USD, but I think the AUD price is correct though.

I'm an army builder fan and this set is awesone but... 199 euros is really too much!

with the same price i'll buy 20 battle pack set (9,99 each), --> 5 minifigs for battlepack are 100 (!) minis in total.

so, i don't pre-order it for now... :'-(

BOOOOO!!!

What's with the ridiculous Canadian pricing?! While the US price has gone up, the Canadian price is way higher than any other country. Australians are paying $299, while we are stuck with a price tag of $399, and we have to pay tax on top of that. Our price is over $100 more than in Europe or Australia. I mean, I'm used to paying higher prices than the US but it seems that as US pricing rises, we Canadians are getting absolutely robbed.

Ridiculous.

weeeell i think we can safely say that Lego killed its own set with that price... a shame, really... i liked it a lot, but you're better off building a chess set of your own...

That's really very underwhelming, if it is true, and so it seems....so i think the only possibility for me to get that set is anytime months after it comes out on ebay or something, for a better price.

Woah! Three bills for the chess Set eh. X-O

I barely blinked at paying that for the ISD and the Death Star II, but man...it's nice but not that nice. I might feel a little different had I not already spent $50 for the smaller version. I think LEGO might be taking a gamble here. If I'm not mistaken, this'll be the single most expensive non-Star Wars set they've ever produced. I wonder if their production numbers are going to be considerably lower because of that fact.

Who knows, all the other chess sets have been discounted eventually. I might consider it for $200 deino2.gif

My original thought was that this is a nice lttle set which I'd use as an army builder and I'd probably pick it up for about £50.

But £150!? :-( This set suddenly lost all of its appeal. I know there's 2000+ pieces, but still, I'm definately not gonna buy it.

G--- Heart Attack :-| ... Man, that price is way too high!! How on earth am I supposed to afford it?... And that set was looking so great...

That's just indecent... Almost obscene, even...

Oh well, I suppose it'll end up on clearance on some time later... I hope...

** If you need me, I'll be over there, crying in the corner... :'-( **

And it's what those pieces are as well - I imagine that there's a bunch of the same pieces in there which, along with the price, mean that I won't be buying.

I just saw that price for Australia on the lego s@h.

I think everyone in the house knows I am annoyed.

I wasn't expecting it to be cheap, but when I first saw it I jokingly said somewhere something about it probably being around $250 AU

More.. than.. joking.. level... nooo... bad... bad things... away... to.. dark.. place.. no.. light... it all burns...

I may be being a little over dramatic, and I suppose it is 2k of pieces, but loads of that is 2x2 tiles!!!! And If I did buy it, I wouldn't be able to use the parts without feeling guilty about the price tag, other than to play chess (which I used to do a bit, but now I find a bit... boring.)

:'-( :'-(

By the way, has anyone in australia seen anything from the 2008 castle line, other than impulse sets, in stores?

Honestly, right now I'd be jumping for joy if I could get if for the Australian price. Imagine having to pay $399.99 for it (+ tax) instead? I'm wondering how many of these things they will actually sell? I mean, when you look at the set there's an aweful lot of kibble in there that makes me wonder why anybody would want it for anything other than chess? It kind of reminds me of the ridiculous price that you Australians had to pay for the Millennium Falcon. I can't imagine alot of people choosing to fork up that kind of cash for a set. I get the feeling that LEGO has really misjudged their market with this one.

Wow. Just.....wow. $300.00? Oh my God.

I mean, some of the EXTREMELY nice Star Wars sets didn't even cost that much! But....$300.00? I'd rather buy three sets of 7094 (King's Castle Siege).

Is it because of the new Troll Minifigs? This is virtually the first set to feature a lot of them...but....$300.00? I can't say anything else. :-(

Castle Chess.

I am very dissapointed. I'm sure that numerically it is worth it, but what is the point really? Toss out all the extranea, base it on a 32x32 baseplate and just give us a great pack of figures and a reasonable price like the Vikings chess.

I'd gladly pay a 20 or 30 more USD than the Viking kit in order to get unique minifigs rather than repeats, but at 300 bucks, it's just too much. By making it so elaborate and expensive LEGO has taken what could have been a regularly sold set with wide audience and wide sales and exchanged it for a low volume selling specialty kit.

I realize I am whining a bit because I want a lower cost figure pack, but 300 bucks is just too much for me.

Well, just look at it. It has two prisons, one on each side(attached to the board), two towers, one on each side(attached to the board), and thirty two minifigs. Two trolls, too. Two dragon heads. An inch high(possibly taller) board. Weapons siding the board. It's well worth the cash. *sweet*

I think the rooks may be on wheels. Why?

  1. It would be more 'realistic' to have a rolling siege tower than a tower that magically grinds across the ground.
  2. On the Lego.com description it says it has rolling siege towers.

Man, I wish the instructions were up to see if it were really worth the price. :-/

Dragon heads!? Let me take a look at that picture again.

I'm now guessing it has such a high price from all of the special (and very nice) parts (that I now want!).

I just hope that BrickLink has them in the future.
