On closer inspection, the 'good' rooks are just towers, but the 'evil' rooks are indeed rolling siege towers. Let's have a look at that again:

Ah, you are still trying to convince me to buy this, aren't you? That is cool that the siege towers roll. *sweet* And I love the details like the dragon heads ( *wub* ) and the numerous weapons. The free shipping is tempting... But I will wait and see what happens in the meantime, I am not yet entirely convinced it is worth the price tag. 8-|

Even if it were 250 NZD, that'd be awesome. But 350, struth, not everyone's made of money. Still, if I observe all the details enough, maybe I can convince myself... all those weapons, minifigs, 2 giant trolls, severed dragon heads for display... :-P

As has been said in the other thread, the price seems perfectly reasonable for what you get. It's a lot of money, sure, but you get just as much lego per buck as with normal sets, perhaps even slightly more. I really don't get the reasoning that LEGO "killed" this set with the pricetag - it's in line with what prices have always been! The previous speculation that the tag might read $150 was quite silly to begin with (sorry :-$).

So, perfectly reasonable price, with the exception for Canada - Blue&white, I truly feel for you! Normally we Swedes get robbed; our prices are usually the same figure as the american plus a zero, which means an increase of about 35%. Thus i expected the Swedish tag to read SEK 3000, but surprisingly it's 2200, meaning we pay about the same as the americans! And free shipping! I'm placing my preorder right now. *sweet*

Thank you for summarizing my thoughts. *sweet*

It'd make sense that they roll. Tks for clearing that up, iamded! *sweet*

Btw, iamded, where do you see that the Crowny towers aren't rollable? :-/

This set will be a hell of a joy to build for anyone... >:-)

No problem. It took me a while to distinguish the towers from the tiles on the board, but once I did that I could see a wheel on the troll rook. But on the other picture (the one below), I looked at the Crownie tower and though you couldn't see the side of it, it looks like it's sitting flat on the ground, not slightly raised above due to it having wheels. Unless that's a shadow and not a dark grey plate. So that's just an assumption from a partial observation, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have wheels. We'll have to wait for someone to get the set to prove me wrong. Why doesn't Lego.com have building instructions up yet? X-D

If I ever got this... well, I'd make an armoury for each race to hold all the weapons, and I'd separate each corner from the board and use them in my display. And then there's all the minifigs of course.

Oh, yeah, I got that one (from myer a day or so after it came out here, and with something like 20% off, so I payed about $70), forgot to add that to my list of not to mention.

But, yeah, Thanks for answering the question. Shame that they don't have them, Kmart just had 15% off lego, but that is over now.

Hope they get here before the end of August (So I can get them for my birthday)

Wasn't the Wheely thing supposed to be out in Feb or something, maybe it was exclusive to a store I haven't been to lately (TRU, Target or Myer?)

Anyway, on the Wheeled towers- Still not enough for me to pay that sort of price. And anyway, I still wouldn't be able to use it for parts etc without feeling guilty.

Shame.

Dwarf mine is widely available now at Target and K-mart (the ones in Victoria that I frequent at least). The new cargo planes (mail and the big green one) appeared at K-mart this week so hopefully some., new castle stuff won't be too far away.

Thanks Tenabrae. The bad news for me is that's true even in New Zealand, and seeing as there's no Target's in NZ and few K-Marts, I have a problem.

I picked up the Dwarves mine from Kmart at 15% off for $54 >:-) , no other sets out yet and we have 3 Kmarts in the area. (our Myer has next to nothing in all lego, TRU doesnt even have castle at all, Big W and DJ's have some sets.

I cant even find a 7094 anywhere or BP's :'-(

If anyone in Aus sees the Battle Wheel lmk....not willing to pay$80 US to get it so hopefully it turns up in Aus

New pics of the Giant Castle Chess Set in the latest catalogue (it arrived today). Also a lower price - £139.99. I expect if you quote the catalogue code you'll be able to get it for that price when ordering from S@H; it's how I got Dwarves' Mine £5 off. Anyway, the pics confirm the rolling siege towers, show that the board is constructed from 1x1 tiles (hence the piece count), and give you a good view of the individual chess pieces:

Knights/Dwarves:

King - King (duh :-P)

Queen - Princess

Bishops - Good Wizard (each wizard has 2 lightning bolts)

Knights - Knights on horseback

Rooks - Archers in towers that integrate into the corners

Pawns - A bunch of different Dwarves

Skellies/Trolls:

King - Bad Wizard-type guy

Queen - New Witch

Bishops - Green and Tan Giant Trolls

Knights - Skeleton from Joust set on black horse

Rooks - Skeleton Archers that integrate into corners

Pawns - Different Troll Warriors (including the bronze helmet!)

Admittedly bad pics, my normal camera is on the other side of the world (long story) so I had to use my camera phone:

I don't quite understand why there's a skellie in the skellie prison though.

I didn't think the price was that bad, considering the size, novelty, etc. I mean, I'm not buying it, I can't justify the price as a non-chess player.

I was also surprised to see that the Battle Wheel was £30. I was expecting it to be more like £40.

It seems pricing is the real trouble, I think it's fine, but TLC was just a bit nuts to let it get that far.

As for the Battlewheel, I just hope that the price you quoted will be good for Australians, love that weird machine.

Looking at all the castle sets released this year I am very surprised:

6 Castle Product Sets: Defending the Dwarfsmine, Troll Assault, Tower Raid, Dwarfs Mine, Troll Warship, Troll Battlewheel.

3-5 Impulse sets: Sentry, Wizard, Troll Warrior (and possibly Skeleton Chariot and Soldier)

2 Battle packs: Crownies and Skellies.

And 2 others: the Advent Calender and Chess set.

That makes about 15 products, plus ones I missed.

Batbrick Away! >:-)

Oh. Well that translates to 1 dollar and 85 cents in NZD more than the price already on S@H. X-D Thanks for the pics though!

Looks really nice..does anybody know where to get such catalogues?? those aren't the normal ones you get in every shop, are they?

No these aren't the normal ones. The catalog shown above is the Shop@Home catalog. It can be ordered via the official website. For example here.

Did you get the catalog in the mail? Are the catalogs coming to the US anytime soon?

Yep, it came in the mail today.

But I cannot tell you the date of the arrivall in the US.

I´m just glad we get some things before you. :-P ;-)
