I'd say very small things that most of us would throw out. Maybe weapons racks, small catapults like from 7009?

I think we must follow the Advent Calendar rationale here !! Think as small as possible :-D

For the sentry, I think you're right, some kind of rack + weapons !! That would be sweet *wub* We don't need crappy designed vehicles (they have to be !! I know the makime "small is beautifull" but I don't think it would work here :-D ), just give us cool accessories !! I will really buy gazillions of those !! Army building ON !!

Now for the good wizard. I think we're pretty safe to assume it will have accessories similar to the bad wizrd of 7093 !! I think we'll have a crystall ball globe and a wand or some kind of weapon. Its good for my wallet that we nly need one X-D

Can't wait to see those !!

I think jamtf, who had given us (now proven correct) information over at Trains and Town board, stated that the sentry was a grill helmet knight. Or a visor knight. One of them anyway.

I will also (along with just about everybody :-D ) buy a gazillion of the sentry, and a quite a few of the good wizard, provided he is good. I think a small amount of building should be present in these impulse sets, after all, Lego is a building toy.

I can't be bothered finding all the impulse set names (lazy I know!) could anyone please post them, I plan to get lots of these army builders sets.

I think the sentry will be a small tower..... A really small tower, with an arrow many at the top. Because thats what a sentry is... i think

That's the kind of set i'm expecting also, a small tower fig, weapons and perhaps at a stretch even a horse. We've had small sets similar to that before, though i expect the horse is to much to ask for.

i dont think he said grilled helm or visored helm. i specifically recall him saying it was the flared helmet with the nose piece (which is the standard footsoldier). though he did say there's an armor piece as well. what i think the set needs is lots of shields. all the current army builder sets lack shields. lots of weapons but lacking shields. for me, this set needs at least 2-3 shields in order for me to buy it.

So true and that concept is way to often forgoten IMO. As AFOLs, we tend to forget that Lego is actually a toy. And we all know that a perfect set is like the ultimatre goal that is so rarely reaches unfortunatly !!

But I will add that modding a set is really fun and add a lot to the Lego experience for me ;-)

Now I want elves !!

*yoda*

but here's where i disagree. Lego has an excellent chance to expand its market. instead of focusing in the right direction it made so many bad moves. like making computer games. or building a theme park. or venture into apparel. or the more recent furniture design. wtf?!?! does it really want to be microsoft, disneyland, gap and ikea all at the same time??? and all this time it could have venture into a new market it can surely compete in immediately using the same creative staff as before. what is the market you say? miniturized models. They can compete with tamika, and the rest of the modeling/hobby brands. currently only Star Wars and City (cafe corner/market street) have UCS sets. just imagine if they created a UCS castle or UCS mecha or UCS pirate. would the fans not go berserk?? it will have almost the same hype as the iphone probably. X-D i'm drooling as it is, thinking of a 5000+ ucs castle or a certain 17th century ship in the carribbeans :-P

so yeah, TLC just gotta think outside the box (not too much outside though ;-) last thing i want would be for them to start competing with home depot! ) and not think of its bricks merely as toy for a second. :-O think of them as parts for art and craft. :-P and modeling. :-P

I do kind of agree with what you are saying Natelite, TLC does need to expand itself rather than just make lines like Mars Mission :-X . It has so much unrealised potential :'-)

Yes you are right too, jamtf did say flared helmet :-$ . This is not as good as I thought, but still good.

I think Hollisbrick is onto something here, It probably will be a really small guard tower with accessories.

I would be happy with that.

Vader, I think a horse is a bit too much to ask for, even if it isn't out of the question. Being primarily armybuilder sets, and the high probability of the fig being a normal soldier (who so far don't ride horses), along with the expected accessories, I'd say a horse is unlikely :'-( , though still a possibility.

Well actually I was only refering to normal "building" sets ;-) And they are truly in thier lmarket there as building toys !!

I don't mind TLC venturing into fun stuff like ice trays and cake moulds and what have you !! I think they're cute and it adds friendliness to a brand IMO. As long as they don't loose any money in the process, I like these products !!

And off course I totally agree with you with the expension of UCS sets for nerds oops hardcore AFOL builders with lots of money and display space !!

Look SW started the trend, then Batman followed with the UCE, and all that lead to what we know Cafe Corner, Market Street, Eiffel Tower and all the new '08 sets !! So TLD do expand trheir market which is a great IMO !!

If the trend continues, we might see a fantastic castle and other 5digits sets from different themes ;-) Amen to that I say !! The more the better !!

yup!!! but there's one catch though. they gotta make it in MF scale! the USS constellation was a failure because it was not MF scale. :-P i think that's Lego's biggest draw. it doesn't look impressive until it is MF size!!! :-P

Without a doubt the highlight of 2007 for me was Cafe Corner and Market Street. They created a new paradigm in Lego construction that has really caught on with the AFOLs, and can be expanded upon very nicely.

I sure hope they sold well.

I've been pushing for that UCS Castle for years now, but it has to be something of quality, not a giant <insert that tiresome argument> set.

True :-D Except that Eiffel Tower though !! Its big and impressive and very far from beeing MF size !! Its bloody microscaled and still is more than a meter high X-D

Like the upcomming Taj Mahal will be microscaled, but that won't prevent it to be impressive ;-)

Me too I do hope these sets sell well !! We want that trend to pursue and increase in numbers !!

If TLC were to do that UCS cstla, it would be massive and not jiniorized at all !! Thats not the UCS way :-D

Yea the sentry will probly look something like this.

You are right in term of size !!

The wizard is a good wizard, so I would be surprised knowing TLC's ability to reuse parts and figs to see a dumbledore looking like wizard :-D

*yoda*

Perhaps the wizard/sorcerer will have a crystal ball and perhaps a table to place it on, apart from that i can't think of what else they could add :-/

_________

I don't think it was a wise decision of TLC to have the Wizard in an impulse set. From what I can see the 2008 sets don't really have any "special" figs like the Princess, King and Dark Wizard from this year's wave.

They should have put a grill helmet knight, visor knight or more likely an archer in an impulse set, for army building. And put the Wizard in "Attack on the Tower" or something for better results.

I still will get a few of him if he has a good torso and/or useful accessories though.

Your most likely right about that *yoda* , seems a good choice for lego to create something along those lines.

Batbrick i also find it a strange decision by lego to put a sorcerer in the impulse set, i thought it would be either a skellie or perhaps even a troll.

Yes, surely TLC can't be THAT dumb (sorry if that ofends anyone! :-$ ) They must have some trick up their sleeves, maybe a new part or perhaps the wizard sits atop a pile of chrome gold 1x1 slopes! :-D

Although I don't think TLC ever were the masters of marketing either.

*vader* , have you got all the current castle line? Just wondering btw.

Where does price reduction leads us I wonder X-D I remember seeing that this wizrd will have star markings on him and his hat !!

I suggested Dumbledore since that colour is in production with the new HP castle X-D

I mean Indy sets have the Naboo N1 pilot for nazi, so why not dumbledore for good wizard ;-)

Hey you know that good wizard is not Midas right ? :-D

What do u think the Sorcery will be?

oviously a wizard of some sort but what stuff?

Do u think it will be a *skull* wizard or something else?

I agree, but I think even that is asking for a lot. I mean the price range for this is $2-3US, not $5US right? For that price a fig takes up $1-1.50US, leaving 5-10 parts for the rest of it, not including weapons.

I agree with everyone else that the wizard is a weird choice, I mean it seems like a waste to put a fig like that when these are supposed to be army builders. Though for army builders, you'd think that sets like the tic-tac-toe and chess sets would be far better, unless those are "army builders for people with a decent amount of extra cash" and these are "army builders for people on a budget", like people who want an extra fig or two, but can't afford a chess set.

I don't know, I'm just not expecting a whole lot from these, the rest of the line however...X-D

i'm with vader on the wizard. there's hardly a need for an army of wizards. the sentry (if the description of flared helmet is correct) is perfect as the army building set. but wizard? what army needs more than 1? okay...maybe 1-5 depending on size but i don't see anything more than 10 for like 1000 strong army.

Leave me alone! :'-( :-D But you have to admit it, Midas Wizard would be cool! X-D

Dumbedore as you have said would be the most likely candidate for the wizard, though hopefully with a couple of new bits. Star markings would be appreciated, Though only a little bit would be good, too many would look corny. I hope to see the Wizard be like a good mirror opposite to the bad Dark Wizard!

That or TLC could somehow pull off making a wizard seem like something you need lots of of.

And maybe the nazi isn't a naboo pilot, but the naboo pilot is really a nazi! X-O X-D !

I know what you're , that joke was awful! :-$ Someone punish me quickly! :-D

Too bad. The basic footsoldiers aren't bad, but its all too easy to get loads of those. I would've really liked some more archers, with bow and arrowholder ofcourse (lacking in the small Crossbow Attack set).

Got to disagree here with you natelite, TLC made some sweet micro scaled sets with the Star Wars theme, and on Brickshelf there are also tons of great microscale spacecraft.

Would something like this be like what you had in mind?

So there aren't any impulse sets for the bad guys? Hmm, I doubt we'll get the impulse sets in New Zealand anyway :-(

Well, the designers said they'd include a new torso for the sentry, so that'll be good:

In the meantime we are launching some small impulse purchase items which include one minifigure plus accessories (as you have already heard from Eurobricks), one of them at least should help with your Army building

Sure, that's a great example. But there are many others. Not to turn this into a "my favourtie castle" thread, but JoJo's Tower in the Lonely Woods stands out in my mind for example, and is a similar scale to Siskind's tower of Dracula. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2665049
