ReZourceman Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Ooooh nice. Yeah I hope the troll fortress has more detail in the final. It looks quite...kiddy if you know what I mean. But yeah, I'll get all of them. :) Quote
Colonel Bulstrode Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Notice that the big troll have black clothes There is also a queen in the Drawbridge Defense I will probably get the King's chariot and the Drawbridge Defense! Colonel Bulstrode _____________________________ Legos new Castle sets are awesome lets hope there not too overpriced. Edited January 20, 2009 by Colonel Bulstrode Quote
natelite Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 hmm, the castle sets are a little bit of a disappointment imo. the wagon is more like a chariot. and what respectable king drives a wagon/chariot himself? the best set is the drawbridge. the troll fortress doesn't look good. probably will need to moc your own. the mfs though are okay. the most surprisingly good sets would be the miners. look at that stone golem prototype! brick built too! the new rock monsters on steroids look good too. Quote
Svelte Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Drawbridge Defense is the clear winner here. That architectural detail is amazing Troll's Mountain Fortress still isn't impressing me. I would have liked to have seen them do something completely different design wise, sort of how Volcano Base completely stands out from the rest of the Agents line in terms of design and landscaping, but this looks just like an 'evil' version of the standard Castle layout. That chariot is also a little odd. Quote
Batbrick Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Well I am loving the new sets, thanks for the link Erdbeeries! The King's Chariot looks quite nice and seems to have a few very useful dark blue pieces. Oh! And a plume! Plumes are back! I didn't see that before! I don't have those big wheels either so they will be useful to me, and orcs are always appreciated, though hopefully the final version has that new armour piece. The Drawbridge to me is looking like the best set with the best figs. Nice to have skllies back, but the real treat is that awesome gold knight and jester, the latter especially considering I didn't get the calender. There's the queen too which is great, and I love the overall design. The Troll Fortress too looks great, like someone previous said not as imposing as thought, but still wonderful. The fact that we get two giant trolls is awesome. And great giant flame pieces! Holy useful! Lots of great other minifigs including the king, and the troll king looks nice. Overall I'm pleased with Castle 09, apart from the disregard of Dwarves, which is frankl criminal. Batbrick Away! Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Looking closely at the Trolls Fortress,it looks like it might close up to form a castle like kings castle siege. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the link Erdbeereis! The King's Chariot doesn't look too bad to me. We get some great dark blue and pearl gold pieces, as well as 2 more trolls, who I can never get enough of. The chariot itself is nice, but far too big and bulky. I would have liked to have two horses drawing this along, as it looks like it would be hard work for just one. The Drawbridge Defense looks great, I love all of the detail that has gone into the tower. The angled plate on the ramp is nice too, though it doesn't look very stable to me. Like Sandy I hope that the ramp will be connected to the tower in some way, as I imagine it will be a bit of a pain to adjust the two pieces so that the drawbridge fits onto both well. The minifigs in this set are great , with the queen, jester, golden knight (with dark blue flare ) and the returning skellies. Considering the inclusion of the queen and jester, I'm really hoping that the tower interior will have a nice royal court or something similar. I'm not very impressed with the Troll Fortress however. I feel that the inclusion of light bley breaks the colour scheme of the previous troll sets. I would've much preferred dark bley, or even better, more brown/dark brown to create a more wooden and ragged feel of the 2008 troll siege engines. On the plus side, we get dark brown clubs for the giant trolls and the troll shaman. It also looks as though, like the Agents Volcano Base, the fortress can be closed up to create a more solid look, as all of the structures look to be connected by hinges. The golden knight looks quite good - especially if they change the torso and legs to dark tan or even pearl gold instead of yellow.: Actually, looking at the knight's body compared to his face, the knight already is in pearl gold. phoinix Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Looking closely at the Trolls Fortress,it looks like it might close up to form a castle like kings castle siege. i was thinking the same thing! i bet the set is really nicer than what we see in this prelim pic. i really like the design of the bridge even though a blue base would be much apretiated and we dont see bases any more in play sets. and i would also rather they made a little tower with the queen in the top room rather than this bridge isnt a bridge supposed to be infront of a castle? the king chariot set i think is nice. we havent seen anything like that for a while now what i dont like is why we only get 3 sets? or are there going to be more? are they running out of ideas for this line? cause that would be bad.. SWMAN Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I am not at all impressed with the new castle sets. The King's Chariot looks dumb in my opinion. I do not like how small and open it is. I don't like the Drawbridge because it should have more crownies, not a jester, and I also don't like Skellies. The troll fortress I am guessing is still pretty preliminary considering the Giant trolls have black. Overall, very poor. Quote
hewkii9 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 King's Chariot - Horse, shields, king, and gold. I like. Drawbridge Defence - I like it, but I'm hoping that it'll have a back. Don't like the Jester's presence. Orc Fortress - Orc Pimp, outer walls, and new fire - BITCHIN', light grey and the fact it doesn't look like it has a back - not so bitchin'. Quote
Asuka Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) The King's Wagon looks quite stupid, not really a wagon at all but more like a ship's bow being dragged by a horse. Looks more like a classic chariot than the for the Castle line a little more usual carriage scheming... interesting choice of design - poor lonesome horse. Yeah... I would´ve preferred something more distinct, more... well, trollish too. Drawbridge Defense, beside the neat MFs, looks more like a pretty boring KK set to me without any special charm or humor... a step back, designwise, somehow... well, let´s see. At least it´ll work as some kind of extension pack for the King´s Castle Siege. Edited January 20, 2009 by Asuka Quote
Righteous Squid Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 King's Chariot - Already have two kings but since they decided to put skellies in the drawbridge set I guess I may still get this for trolls. The chariot looks dreadful but has useful pieces. Anyone know what the silver blob at the front is? looks like a cartoon crocodile head to me - Haven't seen anything like it so far. Drawbridge - best set of the castle range so far. Beautifully designed structure with lots of useful pieces, nice minifigure selection - another jester yeaah!!! (now I can copy Penguin and have two henchmen for Joker). The knight looks to me like he is pearl gold not yellow - (arms and legs a different shade to the face) - only minus - I already have enough skellies - need trolls. Mountain Fortress - my first reaction was that it wasn't what I was looking for (something with more wood and closer to the viking fortress than this perhaps)- but having though about it a bit more it certainly seems to have potential. I strongly suspect that the the camera angle and layout don't do the set justice and it will look better when we can see it from all angles. It looks like it is hinged so it can be arranged either as a straight facade or folded back so it is enclosed like castle seige. I like the main tower especially but I don't like the big fire pieces. Overall - nothing wrong with it that can't be fixed. Quote

I Scream Clone Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Nice work perv. Though I will wait for official pics to pass judgment on these sets Quote
DaleDVM Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 The Troll Fortress: Did anyone note that the troll King's crown is a different color than the crownie King's? It looks to be a more copperish color. Now that would make me happy as I have oodles and oodles of regular crowns. The large flames on the Orc fortress could be very useful. Overall the fortress looks like a decent one. I think they had to go with light grey to differentiate between the built parts of the fortress and the rock underneath. The large trolls have a logo on their helmets. Makes me wonder if they are going to go in this direction with them... I hope the clubs also stay dark brown like that. Much better than the light bley clubs. There is a nice mixture of choco and reddish brown parts included. The drawbridge defense: This structure is slopetastic! The architectural detail is nice and even nicer because of all of the light bley slopes included to make it. I see that the gold knight is pearl gold and not yellow. Much better. His helm looks to be gold plated. That would be something new and exciting. I can't really make out the queen in the photo. The chariot: this looks overly large for one horse. That can be easily fixed. I love that the trolls have shields. This set would make for a fantastic army builder except for the fact that you would get a crapload of kings! The red plume also doesn't go well with the rest of the heraldry but I could give it to my other factions! Someone asked about the grey thing on the front of the chariot. It is a crossbow. Quote
Lockt Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I am not very enthousiastic about the chariot, although I like the weaponry on it. The drawbridge I really like. I just have one open question for it: Is it in two pieces or are they attached? On the picture you cant see it, but the base can be editted out by the water that is shopped in. The fortress of the trolls really requires a full circle view. It looks great and I am looking forward to its release! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I know that the most of you surely will disagree with me and perhaps even will be angry with me. But I must say that these three "Castle" sets are ! The King's Chariot is much to big for one horse, it has no canopy and it looks more like a Roman chariotry than like a medieval chariot. The Trolls' Mountain fortress is simply a nightmare! The only set which has a bit charme is the Drawbridge Defense. But all these fantasy elements unluckily destroy the otherwise very nice design. Nevertheless I'm not very angry about these sets since there are already awesome City and excellentSW OT sets this year - plus the amazing Medieval Market Village (which I haven't built up completely ) and perhaps even another exclusive Castle set late this year. Klaus-Dieter Quote
Scop Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 King´s Chariot: Fail. What shall that be? An oversized Battle Chariot carrying a treasure? The chariot itself looks kind of stupid, much too bulky for a battle and not very impressive at all. The good thing about the set are the trolls, that both have shields. Orc Fortress: Epic Fail so far. Looks like the trolls once went to the human lands, discovered King´s Castle Siege and said: "Oaaaar, let´s rebuild this in Orc-land! " Of course, they had not the ability of the human builders and so they´re Castle ended up beeing a low-budget imitation . Drawbridge-Defense: I like it, still reminds me a bit of the Royal Knights Drawbridge. I don´t have a clue why the jester has to appear here, but for people who missed the advent calendar it´s surely a good thing. Quote
metalandi Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) I must say, partly i'm with you Klaus-Dieter, but on the other hand i'm not. I agree on the chariot, it looks really not very exciting, and it's proportions are weird. But then we have to remain that these are still prelims and it could look way different in the final version. Remember the prelim pictures from the viking sets back then, they also came out hugely different in the end. Then the Troll's fortress: I also agree that it is a nightmare, but i conider that a good thing. because well, trolls are ugly creatures and so is the place they hang out. And also here think about that these are prelims. Btw., i think that the wall segments are all attached to each another with hinges, so it looks to me as if the wall can be wrapped around to close tzhe building, and that it will come out in a kinda like "round" form when closed. I also like the drawbridge best until now, i think it looks pretty majestic. Anyway, i can't wait to see the final pictures of these sets and pics of the interior and details. I still think these will come out as good sets in the end. Edited January 22, 2009 by metalandi Quote
slimninj4 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I like the new sets. I love to have more chains. The draw bridge is my fav right now. I would sell off the skellies though. I have no need for those. Quote
brickzone Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 The Troll fortress looks pretty awesome even just from the prelims. I like the form of the structure and the menacing gates. Bit of a LOTR feel to it with the tower on the right - looks like it's set up perfectly for the Eye of Sauron. The drawbridge defense seems pretty neat - I hope there's a bit of an interior to the room above the drawbridge that the Queen will be in, but I guess it's not that likely. Can't say I like the idea of the golden knight even if it will be a minifig in pearl-gold colour rather than yellow. The chariot seems a reasonable set idea, but not something I'll need to get - not interesting enough and I've two kings already (chess set and castle siege). Quote
