Xon67 Posted November 2, 2016 Author Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) It looks to me like a mobile brick sorter. The heli-crane dumps a bin of bricks into the top of it in the construction pit. Then the bricks come out the sides, are carried up the conveyors, and fall into sorted bins. I need a working one of these... Edited November 2, 2016 by Xon67 Quote
antsiranean Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Your work is amazing! I keep checking on it and am always baffled. Keep it up! Now I'll check out the café you've done, in order to make something similar for my train station . Quote
Fuppylodders Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Is the lxf available for the brick separator? I'd be quite interested in actually making one of them... Quote
Xon67 Posted November 4, 2016 Author Posted November 4, 2016 @Fuppylodders I'm hesitant to post my files publicly. If you like, send me your contact info and I can send you some references that you should be able to build from. Coming up over the next few posts: Updated renders based on Professor Brickkeeper's videogame screen grabs. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Found this article with the physical Bricksburg from Finn's basement. What's interesting is that they also used stock modular sets. http://collider.com/the-lego-movie-finns-basement-images-legoland/ Quote
Xon67 Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 @antsiranean Thanks for your nice words! If you do end up building something, it would be great to see it. @gotoAndLego I think it's interesting to compare what's in Emmet's neighborhood with what's in Finn's basement. A lot overlaps--and a lot doesn't. Quote
Xon67 Posted November 9, 2016 Author Posted November 9, 2016 Here's the first full update based on the videogame screen grabs from @ProfessorBrickkeeper. More updates to come! Quote
The Architect Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Very kind of you to share this! Thank you. Quote
Xon67 Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) @The Architect Thanks! Glad you like it. Stick around, there's more to come! Edited November 13, 2016 by Xon67 Quote
Xon67 Posted November 16, 2016 Author Posted November 16, 2016 This is another update that I started based on the intro from the videogame. I added the ground floor and additional details on the side. With the screengrabs from @ProfessorBrickkeeper, I was able to refine the additions and completely rebuild the structure on the roof. Xon67 Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 @Exetrius Thanks for the comment! Glad you like it. Quote
Xon67 Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 We never see the back side of this building in the movie, but thanks to @ProfessorBrickkeeper's pictures, we know exactly what it looks like. Quote
Xon67 Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 I got a request from @NDLG80 to post views of the back of the instruction holder. Hope this works for you! Quote
NDLG80 Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Thanks so much @Xon67 for these extra pictures, definately gives me something to go by in attempting the build myself.... Will certainly play around in LDD to see if I can get this one ready for part collecting.. Hopefully not many rare or pricey parts in there ;-) Currently collecting parts for the Copper Chopper and this will be my next project for the new year I think... Quote
Xon67 Posted December 1, 2016 Author Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) The Octan tower is shown in several scales in the movie. This is the micro scale used when we first see the tower and travel up its entire height from bottom to top. Edited December 1, 2016 by Xon67 Quote
NDLG80 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Hi @Xon67.... As mentioned through message, here are a couple of images of the build so far in LDD before I attempt the real world build of the Instruction Holder... The circled areas are highlighting the areas I couldn't work out the exact parts for in LDD?? Also if you had another angle showing more details of the trailer underneath the instruction holder that would be appreciated!! :-) Many thanks for your help... Nathan Quote
Xon67 Posted December 5, 2016 Author Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) @NDLG80 That looks great! I think you have the right parts. Please know that what I build is what I see on the screen. It doesn't necessarily mean that it will work when building in real life. You may need to make some adjustments when taking gravity into account. :-) Here's what I used. Across the top: 85984 roof tile 1 x 2 x 2/3 held in place using 99781 angular plate 1,5 top 1x2 1/2 Across the bottom: 50450 cross axel 32M held in place with 32530 t-beam w. plate 1 x 2. The way this is attached won't be enough to hold up the "seat" on a physical build. It will need more support. As far as the "seat" that the worker sits on: 2736 ball w. cross axel connected to 92906 carban clip with cross axel. What you might be running into here is that LDD doesn't automatically snap these pieces together. I had to build some temporary structures to align them and then use sliders to get them to actually connect. Then I moved the two pieces together into position on the model. Here's a better view underneath for you. It was mostly guesswork on my part. I based it on the truck chassis (seen on the right), which is what I imagine the original designer did: Edited December 5, 2016 by Xon67 Quote
NDLG80 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Hi @Xon67, Many thanks again for the extra image which definately helped complete this build in LDD... As we both mentioned, I will have to add some "support" parts when doing the real build, and possibly look at the possibility of painted some parts to try and get close to the movie, which is a bunch of those Part 32530/32529 that are definately yellow in the movie, however that part doesn't exist in yellow in real life which I thought was weird that the movie would use a part that doesn't exist in that colour... oh well!! This is my adaptation with a couple of alternative parts used like the black 95347 (2x2x10 support) to replace the 2x2x5 lattice ones used in the movie, just because I can't buy them locally... I will also try and find a way to connect the last part of the trailer which appears to be lose at this stage, other than that I can't wait to try and get the parts for this one :-) And for some reason I can't upload my screenshot of the completed LDD unless its under 10kb which is way too small, wondering if there is a limit for new users in posting images here.... Anyways, thanks again!! Quote
Xon67 Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 @NDLG80 Glad to help! There are many situations where the movie shows parts in colors that aren't available in the real world. This is one of the things from the movie that I've been interested in building physically, along with the instruction tube and the large crawler--to me, they seem to go together like a set. I hadn't checked yet which parts on this vehicle may or may not exist. Now I know I have at least one substitution to make! Your image upload issues may be due to Eurobricks not being set up as an image hosting site. You'll need to post the images on another site and link to them in your posts. Here's a tutorial on how to link to images uploaded to Flikr. It's the site I use. I look forward to your seeing your end result! Quote
Xon67 Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 (edited) @The Player Nº1 Thanks! I'll do my best! Here's the rest of the Octan office tower. The version in the movie is at least three times taller than this. I included the same basic geometry but kept mine shorter for sanity sake and so I wouldn't have to wrestle with LDD because of a larger part count. Edited December 11, 2016 by Xon67 Quote
Xon67 Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 Here's another view of my entry into the 2016 Eurobricks Christmas raffle. I was a winner this year on day 12. I look forward to seeing what the final prizes are, manatees and all! :-) Up next: Octan HQ interiors! Quote
GentlemanJoker Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 How did I never know about his until now?! That's amazing!! Great job! Quote
koalayummies Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 (edited) Fantastic work, this has been going on for a while and the effort, time and accuracy is incredible. Would love to be able to build some of buildings and things from Bricksburg some day. Edited December 17, 2016 by koalayummies Quote
