gotoAndLego -- The roof on the underside is the same as what's on the front of the arch entrance. It's a bunch of alternating 1 x 2 hinge plates. Here's a pic for you. If you have any other questions, just ask!

Long-time lurker, but just have to comment on this project. There are no adjectives to describe how cool this is. I've been following this thread from the start and just read through most of it again, just because .

I love the references you make to existing sets. I have no idea how you find the time to do all of this, but keep those awesome pictures coming!!

gotoAndLego -- Since I'm copying what's on-screen and it's all digital, I don't have to worry about the law of gravity and the power of clutch. So, my inside arch isn't attached.

However, if you want to attach it, here are some suggestions. The red plates could be used to attach the top of the arch. The blue plates could simply rest on bricks without attaching. If needed to keep the arch from spreading out, you could place bricks along the length (in orange) as "bumpers."

Another suggestion would be some kind of SNOT attachment on the blue plates.

One other idea would be to replace some of the plates along the very top of the arch with a 1 x 2 Technic brick and pin the arch in place.

Those are just suggestions. I'm curious to know if you come up with anything else.

dutchboy -- Glad you've been lurking and finally posted. I do have more coming. I usually have several builds going at once. We'll all find out together which one gets finished next!

So this is my idea.

Two of these will span a 32x baseplate. Even though LDD wouldn't allow me to do it, there should be no reason why I can't flip the lime green pieces so they connect the top of the arch to the superstructure.

That'll look really snazzy with the plates on it. It should work--and be real strong, too. I wonder if you mount the pieces at the top and the bottom first, if you could use the gear mesh tool to connect them together in the middle.

Hi would it be possible to use some of the lxf for rendering? I have made a LXF to Maya converter and I am working on some small lego films so it would be great to be able to use some of the buildings for backgrounds?

Well... They are actually being used for education inside lego :-)

So I can´t really show them, but this is also more of a general thought about using the lxf´s that other people have done... It would be really great but you really dont want to step on anyones toes.

I guess any lxf´s that people put out there is for others to use and build from, but my case is a bit different I guess...

I will post a render when I get a chance.

Best wishes... Jakob

JakobSteffensen--I think as long as you give appropriate credit, it would be okay. I feel any LEGO fan would be excited to contribute to an official LEGO production. It would be great to see a render.

Actor Builder -- I still haven't decided to post all of my builds. If you like, I can post multiple high res views of it for you to use as reference. Just let me know!

kibosh--I'm (paint) sorry (paint) to (paint) hear (paint) that. Too bad (paint) there aren't any other options (paint and more paint). :-)

I'm gathering pieces to start my Emmet's Apartment build and it just occurred to me that the croissant is not available in gray. Grrr....

I'm thinking of building it as well, and was planning on using white croissants and shield instead.

If you're willing to post hi res renders of things, I'd LOVE anything you're willing to offer from your Emmet's Apartment building!

Painting is a line I just can't cross. It is a badge of honor for our LUG to be able to say everything we display is 100% unaltered LEGO.

I'm thinking of building it as well, and was planning on using white croissants and shield instead.

That's not a bad idea. I can always swap it out later if/when it comes in gray.

It looks like we need a couple of dark flesh 1x2 palisades bricks, too. I don't think those exist either.

I'm having trouble deciding on colors for the facade too, especially since I'm pretty color blind. Dark orange should be the base color, as it's based off the Town Hall, but I'm not sure about the other 2 colors. Dark Red or Reddish Brown? The masonry profile bricks are available in dark red but not reddish brown, so prolly the former. And then Tan or Medium Dark Flesh? Probably tan as some of the arches, curves and slopes are not available in Medium Dark Flesh... Won't know if it looks right till it's tried, I guess...

I'm thinking you're right. I think I need medium dark flesh. Is that the same as medium nougat?

I'm not seeing any dark red, but I'm thinking there is some dark brown.

Medium Dark Flesh (BL Name) is Medium Nougat (LDD Name). They do exist in 1x2 and 1x4 profile (masonry) brick. :)

They're the same. Nougat is the official name, Flesh is the bricklink name. Peeron has a good color guide with corresponding color names across resources.

And wait, so what are the three main colors in the facade, other than the whites and grays? I was pretty sure it was Dark Orange, Dark Red or Reddish Brown, and Tan? Because the 1x4 curved pieces ysed for windowsills are not available in nougat/flesh.

I think 90% of the facade is dark orange. I don't see any dark red. The only tan I see is the curved windowsills. I see Medium Dark flesh and dark brown between the windows here and there. I think they're supposed to be worn looking. I think Emmet's Apartment is a little run down. Like how the columns are a mixture of gray and dark gray.

I took screenshots on my Mac directly from the DVD that I am using for reference. On the Blu Ray, there is a feature that show a animated build of the apartment. I couldn't get a direct capture, but I recorded it off my TV with my phone. I grabbed a series of screencaps from that as well. between the two, I am finding all sorts of things. Like I didn't realize there were a couple of bands of white around the building. And there are a number of different 1x2 bricks in use; brick profiles, palisades, grooved, grills, etc. All in different colors. :-/

I'll have to take a closer look at the footage and stills, then. I don't care to make it 100% accurate to the movie or other sources, I just want it to look right, with the right color scheme at least.

As requested, here's a close-up of Emmet's apartment. I can provide other angles if needed.

And to go with it, here's the origin of Emmet's car.

Thanks! I'd love to see the other three sides as well if possible. And possibly a 3D view of the roof.

Just to clarify, are most of the pieces above the windows white? Sometimes it tough to differentiate between the white and gray.

Once I get closer to starting, I plan to track the whole process on my blog (and here!), so I'll post all my reference pics. I'm not going to kill myself over making it 100% accurate, but I do want to get it as close as possible. When out LUG does displays, I display a lot of LEGO Movie sets. Even though they are just the standard builds, they get a ton of attention. I want to add some true MOCs and up the "Wow!" factor.

Will do first chance I get. FYI--the roof greeblies should already be included in the accessory lxf file on the first page of this post.

Yes, they are white (I really need to work on my lighting...)

I look forward to your updates!
