jluck Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I found it interesting that Clementine is currently voting for Hariett as opposed to Dr. Wen. If I were in his shoes I'd likely be trying to save my own skin and vote for the other popular candidate. I see a couple possible reasons for this: if clementine is scum he's either trying to vote in a manner that would remove suspicion from a teammate after he is dead or he's trying to split the vote to protect a scum teammate. If Clementine is town then I don't really understand the rationale for his vote as he'd be the only player who he knew was a townie so self-preservation kicks in. Is any of this making any sense?

That's because you're thinking as if you were playing. In Cosplay Mafia, I was worried about self-preservation.In all of Cosplay Mafia Not-School, I learned exactly one thing. Self-preservation paralyzes you. Sure, you may last a little longer - but if everyone's just focused on preservation over scum-hunting, nothing happens. So, I decided that this game, I'm wouldn't focus about self-preservation. I'd focus on scum-hunting. And Harriet is the one that's pinging me. *Vasquez is also pinging me, as her post smacks of "trying to guess the way the wind blows" and leaping on to a possible new bandwagon but Harriet's post is the one that really has that good ol' scum taste to it.
Dannylonglegs Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 (edited) Captain Nemo voted for Xenophobic Monoxide instead of Lind Whisperer. You are right! Thanks for catching my mistake! Vote Amendment: 8 votes for Doctor Wen (Xenophobic Monoxide): (Mediumsnowman, Hinckley, Tariq, Bob, Captain Nemo, TinyPiesRUs, CallMePie, Fhomess) 6 votes for Clementine Lister (Lind Whisperer): (Chromeknight, Sir Stig, Xenophobic Monoxide, Lazychicken, Lady K, Dragonfire) 1 vote for Harriet Stomper (Mediumsnowman): (Lind Whisperer) 10 votes required to lynch. Edited September 3, 2015 by Dannylonglegs
TheLazyChicken Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 ...Are you saying that because I'm suspecting 4 people on Day One, that then I'll suspect a new four on Day 2? Not quite sure how you got to 8...Gee, imagine a townie vote that wasn't a straight bandwagon. There would be no way we could get information out of that... Suspecting 4 people on Day 1 isn't as normal as suspecting 4 people on Day 3. Based off of that, if you suspect 4 people on the first day which is the day when there's the most fluff, how many people will you suspect by Day 2? That's the day we have more info on, more info = more suspicions. And we have 19 players, with mandatory voting. There's no math that allows for a no lynch, unless someone undergoes the no vote penalty. Really? Let's see... An example is... 2 people vote for Claw 3 people vote for Harriet 1 person votes for Dr. Wen 5 people vote for you 4 people vote for 2of4 4 people vote for ZipZup That seems like 19 people that all voted but I don't see a lynch going on in my example...

Thank you for once more proving what Hinckley already proved.EDIT: *That first post should have had "Numbers have nothing to do with it, you ping my scum-dar, I suspect you, you don't, I watch you warily out of the corner of my eye."
Sir Stig Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Because scum always play clean, and above board. After writing the post, Minga has noticed Doctor Wen's decision to stay on Eurobricks. If he is scum, that is a blatant AtE which will cause him to lose the respect of his fellow players for good. Horrible scum tactic. Thank you Minga, that was exactly what I meant (although I am not familiar with the term AtE and google search only gives me food related answers). No, I called for a stop on people posting blatant obviousities. Slight difference. Well, I thought I had a good grip of Mafia before I joined up, but it's a whole other experience when you play it the first time vs just watching. So things that are obvious for experienced players, are not intuitively obvious for me until an explanation that the obvious have been tried and the reason why it did not work good enough (see earlier posts, like for example the one I wondered why a no lynch wouldn't be better according to the odds (I must admit I did not remember that everyone has to put a vote or get penalized)). I felt smart for a moment when I suggested the no lynch on day 1 :/ but I appreciate the helpful advice I got in response. And I'm not the only new player here. I accidentally deleted the name and link to Mingas post, but it's not that far back.
Lind Whisperer Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Thank you Minga, that was exactly what I meant (although I am not familiar with the term AtE and google search only gives me food related answers). Appeal to Emotion. If you're searching for a Mafia term, search for __(Term)___ mafiascum.
TheLazyChicken Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Here's the deep secret behind my "suspicions". I suspect people that ping my scum-dar. Dun-dun-dun!!!!!!!! :pir-oh: :pir-oh: Well it seems like 4 people already pinged you on Day 1... Thank you for once more proving what Hinckley already proved. You're welcome Ur welcome You are very welcome Whose Hinkley? You were directing the statement towards me, so of course I was going to answer even if someone already did...
Lind Whisperer Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Well it seems like 4 people already pinged you on Day 1... I was saying that there's no percentage basis on "how many people I suspect," it's directly correlated to how many people act scummy. And the fact that you couldn't draw that very simple conclusion on your own, - or even after I'd already explained it once* - is really starting to push that needle towards five. *See asterisk, second post of mine back.
Sir Stig Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Thank you Minga, that was exactly what I meant (although I am not familiar with the term AtE and google search only gives me food related answers)Quote Then there's Dr. Wen, to me he seems like a townie noob, just like someone said above, him being scum would surely be foul play. Because scum always play clean, and above board. Appeal to Emotion. If you're searching for a Mafia term, search for __(Term)___ mafiascum. From your link: An appeal to emotion is a particularly devious sort of fallacious argument, particularly in a game of unknowns such as Mafia. "If you lynch me, you'll lose!" is an easy example, but there are many others, played by both/all Factions in most games at some point. The nature of the game lends itself to appeals to fear or hope or trust. What?! I am the "someone said above, him being scum would surely be foul play". She simply phrased it better than me. I just don't see your point here. If I may reuse Hinckleys expression (used towards me): selective read much mate?

Sir Stig Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 (To whom is this directed?) Ah, I thought you meant my post appealed to emotion. No wonder I did not understand your reasoning. My fault. Thank you for the link Lindwhisperer (AtE) ;)
Piratedave84 Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 You guys sure are a talkative bunch!! My mind was made a while back and I'll vote: Doctor Wen (Xenophobic Monoxide) I feel bad for voting for the new guy but your behaviour was just so ... Odd ... And scummy ... And, well, odd!
Lind Whisperer Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 You guys sure are a talkative bunch!! My mind was made a while back and I'll vote: Doctor Wen (Xenophobic Monoxide) I feel bad for voting for the new guy but your behaviour was just so ... Odd ... And scummy ... And, well, odd! Whelp, that makes:9 votes for Doctor Wen (Xenophobic Monoxide): (Mediumsnowman, Hinckley, Tariq, Bob, Captain Nemo, TinyPiesRUs, CallMePie, Fhomess, Piratedave84) 6 votes for Clementine Lister (Lind Whisperer): (Chromeknight, Sir Stig, Xenophobic Monoxide, Lazychicken, Lady K, Dragonfire) 1 vote for Harriet Stomper (Mediumsnowman): (Lind Whisperer)
Piratedave84 Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I think this was said before but it's now more apparent, at least to me: why is Clementine not voting for Doctor Wen? At this stage, that vote would hammer Wen but more importantly would almost certainly save his butt from a lynch.
Xenophobic Monoxide Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 You guys sure are a talkative bunch!! My mind was made a while back and I'll vote: Doctor Wen (Xenophobic Monoxide) I feel bad for voting for the new guy but your behaviour was just so ... Odd ... And scummy ... And, well, odd! I would like to justify my odd speech in some way... but I can't. Yesterday my mind was just too addled for Mafia. I will, however, say this in my defense: If I was a scum, would I really make such an obviously scummy blunder, outright defending a teammate? Even someone new to Mafia would probably not make that mistake.
MagPiesRUs Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I will, however, say this in my defense: If I was a scum, would I really make such an obviously scummy blunder, outright defending a teammate? Even someone new to Mafia would probably not make that mistake. I'm not sure why you're suggesting that Seamus has to be your teammate in this scenario. Is he your teammate? It's equally likely that if he were a townie, you'd try to side with him to stay in his good graces. Scum have tried to defend townies plenty of times in the past. I'm not sure why you're insisting that suspecting more than one person at a time is a bad thing on Day One. I would argue that more suspicions = more info. Whether Clem is town or scum, the suspicions he has raised today should be able to help us later on. Speaking of suspicions... I've been reading, and I've got my suspicions. I think I'll keep me close to the chest for now though. Hey, first game, just don't know who to trust... I was being a pretty terrible townie earlier, but I've gonna try and be better. In the meantime, I'll be rereading this thread and see if anyone seems particularly suspicious (besides me). Do either of you have any new suspects you'd care to share with us?
jluck Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I would like to justify my odd speech in some way... but I can't. Yesterday my mind was just too addled for Mafia. I will, however, say this in my defense: If I was a scum, would I really make such an obviously scummy blunder, outright defending a teammate? Even someone new to Mafia would probably not make that mistake. If you are lynched and turn up scum we need to revisit this statement, it would likely lead us to another successful lynch. (If you are lynched tonight I sincerely hope you play again, mafia gets better the more you play.) While I'm not overly convinced the good Doctor is scum, I see it as being a valuable gamble is it could lead to a 2nd successful lynch if he is scum so: vote: Dr. Wen (xenophobic monoxide)
mostlytechnic Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 (see earlier posts, like for example the one I wondered why a no lynch wouldn't be better according to the odds (I must admit I did not remember that everyone has to put a vote or get penalized)). I felt smart for a moment when I suggested the no lynch on day 1 Actually, I remember looking into the day 1 lynch thing many many planets ago... at the time, I found where someone in another universe had done some statistical analysis and shown that not lynching day 1 actually led to more frequent town wins. However, that logic has never flown here and I was shot down when I suggested it back then. So yes, it actually IS a good idea and I'm glad to see you thinking logically. And as people have shown, mandatory voting does not lead to mandatory lynching, since a lynchee has to have more than 50% of the vote, not just a simple highest # of votes. I think this was said before but it's now more apparent, at least to me: why is Clementine not voting for Doctor Wen? At this stage, that vote would hammer Wen but more importantly would almost certainly save his butt from a lynch. Honestly, this is pinging my town-dar for Clem. She's legitimately trying to help the town and not voting for someone she thinks is town, even at the potential cost of her own life. There's still many hours left to decide, so she's got time to continue to persuade people. Similarly, I'm NOT going to be voting for either Clem or Wen today - both are still leaning townie to me. For now, I'm going to Vote: Hannah Ford (Ranger of the Forest) Because she's barely gotten out of bed during all of this. One solitary post, making all the usual noises (I'm busy, I've got suspicions that I'll talk more about later and doesn't ever do it, brief comments on the main characters of the day) but nothing of substance or importance. AKA sliding under the radar... scummo's favorite place to be.
Hinckley Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I'll stop just shy of calling some of these posts downright havering, but I'm baffled the votes are so close and we can't seem to hammer Dr. Wen. A lot of blokes are craikin' that his freak out is a noob Town–tell but I fail to see it. He said he was defending me and then he said he didn't say that and then when pressed further he threatened to narry come back to us. Aye, it's a magnification effect of Scum Perspective, mayhaps. Dudes, Clem is a wee jumpy like she smoked some bad opies but Dr. Wen is Scummier, ISO. The narrow margin of votes is giving me a boak, man. A major boak.

Here's the hammer, int it? Even had a fun video of a man in parachute pants to punctuate it. Where's my opies? My buzz is waning, that it is, brothers. Whoaa.... Barring a vote change, oan yer bike, Dr. Wen. As my grandpap used to say "Failing means you're playing." I think my vote was the hammer, it was the 10th by my count. Have some patient with my drug-addled napper, dude. I get a bit numpty.

Lind Whisperer Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 In the case that tonight I get killed via SK/vig/scum/whomever/taken out by some form of killer, my current "suspicions" are as follows: Harriet Stomper, for reasons which I have posted, Vasquez for her last-minute attempt to join the failed bandwagon against me, and her only repeating what other people had posted, and 4 of 2 raised some good points as regarding Hannah Ford. This is Clementine Lister, signing off.
