JDragonM32 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 OK fair enough then, but in figures this size the difference between 6' and 6.08' is much smaller than the actual figures were made at. If he needed to be taller then there were other ways it could have been done to keep his cost down. For what it's worth,I feel like he is worth his price because of the pieces used for the torso ,however I don't think it was necessary to make him like that and feel it was only done to push his price As for chewbacca,I know he should be roughly the size this Vader is but the normal Hasbro figures have made him about the same size as the others (as far as I can remember) so they could get away with doing the same here.for what it's worth Hasbro made general grievous the same size as most humans too which is probably why I was so impressed by his size for these figures.chewbacca would need custom plates for his fur Quote
VBBN Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 Actually the sizing isn't that far off from what it should be. Obi-Wan stands at 25.5cm tall, and Vader stands at 28.5cm. Using Ob-Wan as a "standard," 1ft= 4.25 cm. Vader stands 3cm taller than Obi-Wan, which would be the proportion 70% (3cm/4.25cm) Converting that back to our 1ft=4.25cm scale by multiplying the 70% to 12 inches, in toy form, vader would measure up to 6ft and 8.4 inches. Sorry to go crazy math here, but it's actually dead on accurate. Quote
Csacsa234 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) Today I got my hands on this bad boy, but while building I already had to make some modifications. I removed the reinforced joints from the ankles, it stands out too much being grey, when the lower half of the legs should represent black boots. I also got rid of the 1x1 beams on the belt, it looks okay but takes away a huge deal from the articulation. After these mini MODs he is a very fine Sith Lord, I'm amazed by the range of motion in the arms with so much armoring on it and the body build was really enjoyable and interesting. Now I just need a shorter cape so i can make a skirt for him, I'm really missing it. Edited September 16, 2015 by Csacsa234 Quote
Scarilian Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 The only problem I have with this build is the odd gray constructs near his hips, as they do restrict leg movement and I'm not entirely sure what they are supposed to be representing. I'd guess they may be some form of lighsaber holders? Quote
Aanchir Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I'd guess they may be some form of lighsaber holders? I believe they represent the little control panels on the sides of his belt. I guess it'd be a better likeness without the vertical 1M beams/bushings, but those are probably there to try and fill out the hips a bit better. Quote
Logan McOwen Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) I believe they represent the little control panels on the sides of his belt. I see absolutely no likeness. Huh. Edited September 17, 2015 by LewiMOC Quote
Aanchir Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I see absolutely no likeness. Huh. Well yeah, I'm not saying they're a close likeness. But judging from their position on the body that's really all I could expect them to be, besides the belt itself. Quote
meowmachine Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Did you know that Vader can actually shrug his shoulders in the Star Wars EU? Quote
MakutaDreadscythe Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I've been wondering what's bothering me about the set and at first I thought it was the cape, but after more examination I feel the chest is the biggest problem, it's incohesive and too wide, especially at the shoulders. They're almost as exaggerated as Bionicle proportions. I feel a thinner, more CCBS build would have been of great benefit. Quote
Shakar Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Aaaah, sucks. I was really excited for this set and I couldn't wait to get it to reuse its frame for a Titan figure I wanted to build, but I'm reading so many complaints now. I guess it's better for me to rebuild the torso from my pieces and see if I like it (with or without tweaks) And maybe get some of the pieces I wanted off Bricklink. Quote
MyopocPaideia Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Thoughts on using the larger hole in the cape to put it over the neck joint instead? Much better look for me. Quote
N-4K0 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Having this figure myself, the only cons for me is that the cape is too short and that I think the helmet/head should have been bigger. From what I can see on images, Vader's head piece is the same size as the human characters' heads, yes? In the movies, unless I'm mistaken, Vader's head is noticeably bigger than other peoples' heads because of the helmet, and being roughly the same size, I think Vader's head looks too small on the constraction figure. Much better look for me. Wouldn't the cape be too short then? I've been also pondering about fiddling with the cape, maybe trying out a different one (I need to look where I've put Furno XL's cape...). Anyway, while his cape looks a bit awkward, I'm still happy that I bought Vader back then. He's a fantastic set. Quote
Takanuinuva Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 When I modded my Vader I used the much better cape from Kylo Ren. Its roughly the same length and it fits around the neck instead of the back. I also went and rebuilt the torso to add a custom gearbox. Though without the cape the neck area is a bit gappy http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=6383810 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=6383816 Quote
