deehtha Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Does the crane have to be of a modern design or any type of crane, as long as there is documented proof? Quote
aminnich Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 correct me if im wrong milan, but the crane shouldnt be too far out there. It can be any kind of crane that hoists. As for the documented proof, i am not sure, but im building a concept crane that their are only drawings of it. So i cant help you their. Quote
Thirdwigg Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Some freedom is certainly allowed, but as we noted before, try to stay within known types of cranes.. What exactly you have in mind? Something like this seems fun, futurey, and still very much a crane. Quote
Milan Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) Does the crane have to be of a modern design or any type of crane, as long as there is documented proof? It does not need to be a modern design, nor it does need to have a proof. In fact, it can be equally interesting too see older cranes that uses cables and lattice booms instead of hydraulics and today's slick designs. Something like this seems fun, futurey, and still very much a crane. I was just waiting if someone will try that design :) I think there will be maybe even two or more entries based on this concept. Sure, it is allowed by all means. correct me if im wrong milan, but the crane shouldnt be too far out there. It can be any kind of crane that hoists. As for the documented proof, i am not sure, but im building a concept crane that their are only drawings of it. So i cant help you their. Well, it can be almost any kind of crane that hoists, even concept models are fine to some extend, but lets keep it as much close to the models we see on the construction sites as we can. As we stated before, lets not get carried away too much into the unknown. Edited September 11, 2015 by Milan Quote
aminnich Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I cant believe how psyched i am for this contest. I have solved a bunch of problems i knew i would have from the start. 2 weeks better b here soon, i want to show my progress!!! Quote
Kiwi_Builder Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 For the rules that it can't be shown anywhere else before, can I post a WIP video on YouTube of it before the two week period to show what I've done so far? Quote
Milan Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 For the rules that it can't be shown anywhere else before, can I post a WIP video on YouTube of it before the two week period to show what I've done so far? Sure, just hold on with posting wip topic or links on EB before two weeks pass. Quote
doug72 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Milan, As my TC8 Static Tower Crane was already posted before the two week rule (post 119) was advised , I assume that as long as I do not post in updates before two weeks it can remain. Do we need to start a new post when the finished model is completed - with the required information plus a video ? Quote
Erik Leppen Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 WIP topics may be created 2 weeks after the beginning of the contest What's the reason behind this rule, precisely? Anyhow. I have started building, after having disassembled my WIP version, but the thing is... so far, it has been 99% identical. It looks like my previous solutions were already good. Also it looks like the color I previously used is the only one in which I have the right parts. That said, now the real challenge starts. Setting up the superstructure and boom, putting the cable drums in, lifting the boom and getting it to actually lift stuff. (And, designing a nice cabin). Quote
Milan Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Hey Doug, Yes, dont worry about your topic, it was created before we come to an agreement about 2 weeks rule. But it would be fair to the others if you do not post updates for approx one more week. Once the model is finished, you do need to create the post in the Entry topic, with the required info, pictures, video etc... Quote
Milan Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 What's the reason behind this rule, precisely? It is the product of a discussion from Generic Contest Discussion here. Precisely, to prevent opening WIP topics with just one line saying: "I will build XYZ", or just to reserve the idea, and also, it adds a bit of mystery to the contest in a first couple of weeks. :) Anyhow. If it is identical, it just means that you are sure that is a good solution, unique to you. It is ok, as we have discussed it here before. Only one cabin? :) Quote
doug72 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) Milan, Thanks for the quick response & clarification. There is a large Liebherr Crane Factory near me on the River Wear in Sunderland NE England which I cycle past - some very interesting cranes can be seen being erected and tested prior to delivery. Sir Wolf Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 This is a great contest, infact so great that I decided to sign up because of it. So thanks for posting it. I'm going to go with simple rather than large, and I hope you'll find my lattice boom interesting. Since I'm new and all, I'm not quite sure how to sign up, just start a post in approx one week with my WIP? I don't want to miss out, since I've already started, once I saw the post. Also what's the general opinion here, cover it up with panels or leave it open to show all the nice moving parts? Quote
Milan Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Hi Wolf, As i said in your introduction post, nice to see you here! Hope you will have great time building for the contest. Regarding your questions: 1. If you do not want to create WIP topic of your crane, you don't have to., If you do, please wait until 2 weeks pass, from the start of this contest (7th of September). Important thing is, that you post your finished work in the Entry topic. That way you are officially entering the contest. 2. There is no general opinion regarding looks of the models. Somebody like it open, so all the gizmos can be seen, some like it covered with panels, and someones (me ) like when all is covered with bricks and plates and tiles. Choice is yours, so do as you like and have fun! Quote
Sir Wolf Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Thanks! That puts me at ease! This is going to be so much fun! I think I'm going to try to cover the thing with panels that open... I hope it'll work out. Quote
doug72 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Milan, This is my first entry into a EuroBricks contest and I have a couple of queries. Is it allowable to change the models Title Line when posting on the Entry Topic section or do i have to stick with the one already posted ? Can you please explain "link to discussion topic" Thanks. Quote
Milan Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) Doug, Sure, here are the answers: 1. If i understood correctly, you want to change your model's name in the Entry topic? It is ok by all means. When you finish the model, post it in the entry topic under new, desired name. 2. Link to discussion topic means that when you post your finished model into the Entry topic, and once you show your pictures, video and info, you also should post a link to your WIP topic, which is also called a discussion topic, as it allows people to discuss your wip model Edited September 18, 2015 by Milan Quote
Milan Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 Ok, heavy lifters! Time has come, show us your WIPs, lets have some crane discussion! Quote

MacKaiwer Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I am seriously considering to take part to this contest... I have unopened set 42009 and a plan to do something quite different than the original A model (maybe with some other parts too, not only from this set)... One question for the entry post, how many photos can we post this time? Same ten as in TC7 or more/less? This feels very exciting and challenging contest Quote

gmshades Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Can only the crane part be accepted in the competition? Due to time, I'll be lucky to finish the crane part, but not likely to make a truck base to put it on. I was thinking taking the crane off of 8421 or 42009 and putting mine on. It will be a totally different type of crane. If not I might build it anyway, but wont enter the competition. Glenn Quote

It's just that you won't get many votes because it will be incomplete. is this allowed? That should be fine because the only purpose of that is to lift, it's just a really old hoist I'll be interested to see how this goes. Quote

If that is the case, it is ok. Building your crane on top of the Lego set (even on the carrier unit) is not allowed. Your entry should be your creation, otherwise people could vote for a Lego set in your entry. is this allowed? - - - - - - - - - - Its a crane after all, so it is allowed. Quote
