kurigan Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 I’m having a bit of a bad day today and I thought “Lego used to make me feel better…” So, I sat down to try and build something, just something, anything, just to do it. There sitting in the way, though, where she’s been for, literally, years, Chaser. Unfinished, dusty and neglected. Not what I want to work on. I don’t know if I’ll ever want to work on any of my ships again. I just can’t care; I can’t find that love in my heart anymore. They just sit there collecting dust in this state. I actually worked on Chaser a little bit late last year, but I couldn’t tell you where that motivation came from. Here they are, then, in their current and perhaps final state. I don’t know what to do with them anymore or why I bothered. Spoiler Quote

_R_R_ Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 (edited) I'm necroing this thread to quickly show a little project I've been working on from time to time. So long story short I've reworked the Black Seas Barracuda from POBB into a Black Pearl. The reason for this is simple, I love the Barracuda's modular design which gives the option to detail the lower deck and I didn't want to go for a massive ship. To me the charm of Lego is when things are compact but you can still tell what it's meant to be. Because of the recent Fortnite PoTC skins I'm more hopeful that we may yet see a new Black Pearl some day so I'll likely never get around to building this in real life, which is why I wanted to post it for posterity I suppose. The hardest part was rebuilding the quarter deck and captain's cabin, I was inspired the video game design in this case. I also changed the position of some canon ports and added a few more for better accuracy. The masts and deck were also slightly altered. Below are some pictures comparing my Pearl to the original set. The last picture is a quick montage of what I had in mind for the MOC, my goal was to create a diorama piece with the Pearl on the water being attacked by the Kraken. I used Dr Brick's Kraken design for the tentacles. I hope my fellow PoTC/Black Pearl fans enjoy, it's not the best or most accurate Pearl MOC and it will likely never be finished but I like it's simplicity. Edited July 3, 2024 by _R_R_ Quote

It's an excellent version of the Black Pearl! It's pretty good as it is. the basis of the PoBB is clearly there, and you have done an excellent job of turning it into the Black Pearl. Looks so much nicer than the set, I'm glad you had it there to compare too. Quote
Elephant Knight Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 I had some small black hulls, and one single middle section. For the large hulls, as the didn't make the small middle in black. But I thought to myself, Hey, I could use the two together. Here's what I came up with: Black Hull Black Hull EKnight Quote
Murdoch17 Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 So I was thinking about taking the new Harry Potter ship (set 76440 minus stickers and banner flags) and changing some colors around and adding two deck cannons - if possible - for a Spanish treasure ship. I'm thinking about turning the dark red and medium blue to regular red, and the gold to black. (with some parts substitutions where needed) I may even add another small center section someday, if I can. A ton of gold 2x2 bricks will be going below decks in the hold as well. The issue is, I can't picture if this will look good or not. I just can't picture the color changes in my minds eye. Thoughts on this color swap? Full disclosure: this is going on an Adventures build as a ship-out-of-time thing, located near Dino Island. You can read the whole page-long story on Flickr here. Quote

TomSkippy Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 I need an opinion: Small Sloop. Should the mast and rigging stay slanted? Or should I straighten her out? Also, what about length vs height. I'm not sure she can be more than 3-6 studs longer. Thoughts? Quote

I thought you all might like to see this MOC I found while perusing Rebrickable today. This brand new ALT-MOC by user @Wurger49 of the Durmstrang ship that only uses two copies of 2024 Harry Potter set 76440 - Triwizard Tournament; The Arrival - as seen below. You can also compare it to the set in the quoted portion above. It only uses just the two sets ship parts, (the carriages pieces are not used!) and is named the Mary Rose, in honor of the famous ship / shipwreck from the time of King Henry the 8th. (Click the link to see how it looks in real bricks - it's amazing!) As stated in my previous post about the original set, I'm gonna turn the dark red and medium blue to regular red, and the gold to black, with some parts substitutions where needed. Thoughts? Murdoch17 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 (edited) So first some bad news: I will not be building @Wurger49's 2x 76440 alt-MOC, as I just don't have the ability to drop $300 on two of a LEGO model to make a MOC, as I don't have that kinda cash. So, I'm back to my original plan of making the original set's ship into a Armada vessel. Here is my progress: Here are the ancillary items for my upcoming MOD. I don't like stickers, so I'm replacing the stickered shields from the set with Castle ones. The flag was purchased from a resale shop in my area, and the cannons will go on the main deck of the ship. These brick built sails are going to replace the fabric ones on my copy of Triwizard Tournament - The Arrival from the Harry Potter theme. I was heavily inspired by set 31109 (Pirate Ship) from the Creator theme on the design and feel of these new sails. (I just hope my measurements based off Bricklink's part listings are correct, or at least close. The triangular sail especially gave me the most headache in orientation and size. That one will most likely need heavy modification when being attached to the ship.) The sails are digital in this picture as the ordered parts have not yet arrived. These totally purist Armada figs (six soldiers and one ship's captain) use a lot of neat parts. The legs on the soldiers, for example, came from a Castle figure from 2010. For reference reasons, here again is the original vessel from the set. The colors I said I was going to change (dark red to red, gold to black) will not be changing. Thoughts? Not my design but iv shamelessly adapted it and built about 60% of it while modding bits i didn’t quite like. Coming along well. Still need to decide on interiors and figures. Thinking of Patel and ragetti, Jack, barbossa, Marty and Cotten. Quote

It's been adjusted for the BDP. I had to straighten the mast since there are no mast or cloth pieces available, I'm pleased with how the brick built ones have turned out, but an angled mast isn't sturdy enough to hold them. Quote
