Hi,

I bought the silver wheels and then painted them white, but although they looked good (base coat plus a number of white coats) I subsequently swapped out the 2x 32007 wheels at the back of the two engines for the lighter 2903 wheels (which are reasonable to get in white) - this helps the engine struts stop sagging over time and still looks good.

You can either swap out the white corrugated tubes for the white technic pins (Technic, Pin Connector Round 2L without Slot - 75535) which I did - looks really good, or get silver and spray (I tried this but they are a pain to get the finish right for 112 of them!) or look for larger length tubes and either cut or resize to fit.

Of course some people choose to mix or leave silver....check out a similar topic below:

Thank you. Those rims will work for awhile.

my next challenge is the copper hose. I do not want to spend $40 on hose.

any other options? It really needs to be copper or brown...

Copper hoses are virtually unique to the Y-wing.  If you check out Bricklink, you'll see only one other set ever contained them.  You could try buying the longer 20L hoses and cutting them down to the sizes you need, but I think this might end up being just as expensive.  Alternatively, set 10236 Ewok Village included some 16L and 28L reddish brown hoses and these seem to be going relatively cheap, you could try getting some of those and cutting them down to size.

When I did my redesign/update of the Y-Wing (see my separate thread), I replaced the 6L copper hoses with a 6L bar with stop in reddish brown.  The 8L copper hoses got replaced with 2x Bar 4L in reddish brown, which is a little more fragile as each bar is only held in place by one clip.  I've only built the model in computer so far though, so I'm not sure how well this would fair in real life.  You might need to insert additional clips so that each bar is held in place at 2 points.

Hope this helps!

I am still in the process of ordering the final parts for mine, and the copper pipes are one of the last items on the list. I saw a build the other day online with a Y-Wing which used grey piping across the body and to be honest, it looked fantastic. If I cannot locate the brown/orange 2x2 blocks with the bar and some copper piping for a fairly decent price, I am definitely going down the route of the one I found online. I have also decided to go down the route of silver for the engines, just personal preference, if I'm not happy at least the option to paint is there!

Link to the one I liked below:

Hope this helps!

I'd go for another colour if they are too expensive - brown / grey / yellow - I went with yellow and grey initially and it looked good until I found by chance a BL store with some coppers at a decent price.

Just a quick update! I am expecting the last few bits of my order this week, so I will probably start building over the weekend. I will take some pictures as I go, really looking forward to it.

I have sold quite a few pieces of normal Star Wars Lego over the last few weeks to make room for all of my UCS goodies over the coming months ha!

I have basically just finished... The problem I am having is the colors of parts.... the dark orange.... red brown to me just does not look right. I think i will be replacing all the bars with LBG

Looking good.  I notice for the engine struts you have gone without the hose tubes on the technic axle - has that helped with drooping? your engines look straight and level on the pics?

That's a great collection you have there! I have noticed the medical frigate in the background, was this a MOC you created or one off the forums? Would be good to see what else you have UCS wise!

I ended up selling a lot of my non-ucs LEGO to make room for more UCS projects, although I have 99% of my 10134 now and will be starting this weekend, I also have the 10019 Blockade Runner and 7181 Tie Interceptor in progress. I currently have completed the UCS B-Wing, 7191 - X Wing, Slave 1 UCS, Tie Fighter & AT-ST which were all bought retail wise over the years. Anio has made a really impressive Venator Republic Cruiser which I think will be my next project, or an A-Wing!

The Nebulon-B Frigate was created by Mortesv and instructions are for sale. You can check it out here: Lego MOC-5083 Mortesv's Nebulon-B Frigate

And the building thread is here, where we discuss building the monster!

Enjoy!

Yep I agree, I did message Anio about the A-Wing, my only main concern is the dark red bricks, I think that project could become fairly pricey. I forgot to mention I have also ordered a full set of bricks for a plus size AT-AT that I found through these forums, was not expensive at all and looks great in pictures, I think it cost me around £160 altogether, I will probably start building that after Christmas. Want to make sure I am happy with my 10134 first and then I have Slave 1 and the Tie Fighter to put together, busy few weeks :laugh:

Anio's A-Wing isn't that expensive to build, somewhere around £250. The only parts I didn't bother with are the 6x6 trans blue dishes as they're from the ISD and cost £25+ each. I keep meaning to get some webbed trans blue dishes to use but keep forgetting!

The build does require you to paint some parts or use colour subs, I found a very close match to the dark red so painted all the parts the same as Anio did. I also bought two extra white wheels and painted them dark red instead of paying £12 each for them in that colour.

No drooping since it was sat on shelf 2 years ago. Also going without the hose tubes gives it a more skeletal look that I think is more appealing........and more inexpensive!

Very nice. Who designed the rank plaque, did it come with instructions? Did you have to print it out yourself? How did you go about transferring onto Lego?

Have you considered painting some nexo Knights shield pieces in dark red to get the angled tips of the maintenance doors? (By the way , which dark red did you use? I made an a wing also, but in minifig scale, and had to paint some parts but mine was too deep of a red)

Novernrob your A-Wing looks fantastic, I thought it would have cost much more to make, however £250 isn't bad at all, this may be a potential project for the new year as well then.

I have noticed a few questions about stickers. I order mine on eBay, there is an Australian guy that prints new stickers off which from what I have had so far, look exactly the same as the originals. I have had a new 7191, 10134, 6143 and 10174 sticker set from him and they all look fantastic. I think they have cost me between £6-10 each for a full set including the plaque sticker...

Once I have finished my 10134 I will post up some pictures with the stickers attached so you can judge for yourselves if they are worth it

Yup the A-Wing is excellent - I think I went in about £270 but I did get the wheels in red and also over ordered the red cylinders (which I subsequently used in my Clone Y-wing UCS MOC....) .  DItto the ebay stickers from Aus - they are excellent quality.

Update - sorry on the paint question - I used 'Wine Red' Plasti-Kote spray in satin on my A-Wing - it worked great with a single undercoat

I got my stickers from Ultimate Collector Stickers, he's actually a friend of mine. He has a FaceBook page and advertises on Ebay too. The paint is a standard off the shelf hobby acrylic that just happened to be a close match, it's a little darker than Lego's dark red but close enough.
