Wonderpants Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I brought a largely set off bricklink for a good price fairly recently (just missing the grey rigging, radar dish, and obviously the manual, figures, box, and plaque). I'm toying with upgrading to the real McCoy though. Is it worth paying a huge premium for the above missing parts to say I have an authentic Falcon, especially since the box will mainly be a space hog? Quote
Kristof Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Not really sure whether this is the right time to ask others. It's almost like asking "Hey, do you guys think it's a diamond necklace is worth buying?" It's really just up to you. You better ask yourself whether you are comfortable with that extra cost. The part's you listed are obviously the most rare elements in the set, often missing in incomplete set offers. Answer to your question involves knowing how desperately you want to have your MF complete as well as how well you're doing with the money. If you can afford to think of this as of an investment, go ahead and get those parts. If needed, you will probably be able to re-sell them for at least the same price. Not sure about getting the box though. Still it also has some value but again - your own desires are what trully matters here. Quote
deraven Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Personally, I'd get replacement rigging (black for cheap, and if it bothers you spray paint it grey (I'm usually a purist, but for simple aesthetics on a display piece when the original runs around $200... no)), different dish, and would probably pick up an original manual (I just like having 'em) and the plaque (if you're displaying it this seems like a reasonable buy). But as krisandkris12 said, it really depends on what your goal is with the set. Quote
bobabricks Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I think it really matters what the "good price" is that you got it for. The cheapest price on BrickLink for a complete set is $2500 US so I would say as long as you are spending quite a bit less than that for your set plus the parts go for it. It also matters how much you want to spend on this set as mentioned above. Quote
neoconagenda Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 eBay had a listing for 60 lbg levers for $99... Quote
dwong Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Hi Wonderpants, How much did you pay for the set? I haven't see any incomplete set for less than euro $1400 I brought a largely set off bricklink for a good price fairly recently (just missing the grey rigging, radar dish, and obviously the manual, figures, box, and plaque). TheBear Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 No, it isn't worth it since you can spend a fraction of the money on some mods that will make it better than the official set Quote
lostcarpark Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 You could probably find a brick printer who could make a decent replica of the radar dish, either by printing directly on the dish, or by printing stickers. Or if you were brave, you could modernise and design your own rectangular dish for the Ep7 version. James Quote

Soul Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I'm bricklinking one atm (see the YABUM thread) and I've just substituted a load of stuff. It's never going to be a 'genuine' set (with a box, manual, stickers etc) so why spend the money to make it look perfect. Chances are I'll do some mods as well, as I'll be less 'precious' about it. rahservizi Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I'm building a Falcon with a modded engine like the one from ScottishDave and I prefer it to the original one. Quote

It's probably a question that only you can answer. I really regret selling my last original one to be honest, but it had got to a point where it was worth so much that I felt guilty about having all of that money tied up in it, and also I was far too worried about it being de-valued by light and dust A Bricklinked one is probably more fun to own, and certainly more of a challenge to source, but if you have any sort of OCD characteristics about your LEGO, the 'imperfections' will start to bug you! Either way, it's an amazing set and I just hope that TLG will re-release it, or something almost identical one day. Quote
