brickbuilder711 Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 This looks insanely awesome! Nice! Quote
zephyr1934 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Almost finished another 2 cars. Missing some detail work. I'm out of those blue windows for now. Got some more on the way from Europe. Looking good! Quote
legoman666 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Some veroboard and a linear regulator might work for your purposes. Also, I think you may call that a slip ring! I put a linear regulator in and it over heated in about 5 minutes. Bah. Quote
legoman666 Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Got my decals custom printed and some red vinyl striping. Not sure if I should keep the stripe on the bottom of the passenger coaches. There is one in real life, but its much smaller than my sticker. I used the red vinyl stripe to continue the red plate stripe on the front. First time doing a brick built coupler. Turned out ok. Should I keep the red stripe on the bottom? Quote
dr_spock Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Sweet! Looks great with the decals. Where did you get the red stripe? I have some Amtrak MOCs and could use the red stripe. The red stripe on the prototype looks like the same size as the red stripe above the windows. I think it is ok to keep the bottom stripe. Quote
v6TransAM Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 I vote for keeping the stripe. Looks good on the bottom and breaks up the colors some. Quote
Sven J Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 How could it happen that I completely missed this beautiful model until now?! Magnificent work! I especially like the "nose" of the engine, the detailing on the bottom and how you managed to fit all the electronics into it. Quote

I had the stripes custom cut for me to the exact height of a Lego plate. If you have a steady hand, you could probably do it yourself using vinyl bought from an auto parts store. Thanks everyone! I still need to make a couple more coaches to complete the set. Edited November 2, 2015 by legoman666 Quote
Meisterschnorrer Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 This is a really good looking train. I like the passenger cars... Quote
baard Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I like this project, keep the pictures coming The red strips looks nice on the cars, IMO Quote
legoman666 Posted November 9, 2015 Author Posted November 9, 2015 Working on this now. I'll run a piece of red vinyl sticker down through the middle of the white stripe. This unit will use 2 9v train motors so that I'll actually have a locomotive that can run unattended at long Lug shows. Funnily enough, this is my first train moc I've ever made that uses 9v motors. Quote
legoman666 Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Almost the entire body is snot. The top will be regular studs up though. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 New locomotive? Nice. I like the WIP pictures, its good for guys like me who haven't built a GE style cab before (those danged angles!) Quote

I like the WIP pictures, its good for guys like me who haven't built a GE style cab before (those danged angles!) The first loco I built is Bluetooth, this one is 9v. My Lug has some long shows that run unattended, and this locomotive will be for them. Just waiting on a BrickLink order for the rest of the pieces. Edited November 11, 2015 by legoman666 Quote
SteveB Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Just looking at the coaches, I really like that rounded look and the color scheme. It's too bad there is a flow pattern in the pearlescent gray. :-( Steve Quote
Phoxtane Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I put a linear regulator in and it over heated in about 5 minutes. Bah. A single resistor may do the trick. There's a calculator at the bottom of this page that should do it - you'll need the current draw in addition to the beginning and end voltages. I put in a (high) guess of 1 amp and it said you'd need a 5-ohm 5-watt resistor: http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/Dropping_Resistor_Calc.html Quote
legoman666 Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 But then I'd be wasting 5W. I'll probably step down the voltage across a bunch of diodes. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Continued excellence, keep it coming. Quote
dr_spock Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 But then I'd be wasting 5W. I'll probably step down the voltage across a bunch of diodes. Would something like a DC-DC 9V/12V/24V to 5V 1.5A Step Down Power Module Vehicle Charger Module work? Quote
Phoxtane Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 But then I'd be wasting 5W. I'll probably step down the voltage across a bunch of diodes. Assuming the current draw is actually one amp, then yes - the diodes may be a better option size-wise for better power efficiency though. Quote
legoman666 Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 Basically done. Needs some decals is all. If you want to retain your sanity, I don't recommend doing the real grills this way. I'm happy with how the truck details turned out. Quote
meowmachine Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) I love this MOC. This looks like the closest possible MOC. Edited November 18, 2015 by meowmachine Quote
legoman666 Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 I finished the second locomotive a while ago, it even ran at a 6 week show without completely falling apart, although it come back missing a bunch of trim, a dead motor and a couple beat up decals. Still haven't put forth the effort to finish the last 2 coaches. Maybe some time this year..... I do finally have all the windows I need. Quote
