I'm loving the sound of this set; hopefully something gets revealed at NYCC and then I have a heads up of knowing what I will be buying. :classic:

I won't be willing to pay that but neat for those who are. I think about $249 is the most I'd be willing to spend on anything Ghostbusters-related.

Never seen the show, but any building that can be added to my city cannot be passed up!

EDIT: It now says 'On Shelves' in the Ideas page?

'Show' I can tell.

I honestly don't want this. Sure it's cool, but $350 and 4600+ pieces? I find that absolutely outrageous.

I can also confirm this is legit using the S@H trick (why they have the name for this and not any other D2C is mysterious. Also the completely random set number)

On shelves as in Ecto-1, the photo just used the HQ as background.

I guess I'm a bit shell shocked about this set. When I first saw the headline and the piece count, I was really surprised and instantly felt the urge to buy this set. But on the other hand, it better be damn good at that price or have are really nice assortment of bricks. I think I will put my thoughts about it on ice until it is officially revealed.

This is very possible. I heard something about unnamed IP (meaning: licensed) theme with several smaller sets and one D2C set for 350€. From completely another source I heard that "Ghostbusters" theme is very likely to come next year, but I never made the connection. (I even speculated in pirate forum that it might next PoTC set). After seeing this, I'm almost sure that it will be firehouse. It's just a speculation, but it is possbile that we will also get stay pufft marshmellow man and some other, smaller sets.

Have you heard anything about Doctor Who becoming a theme?

Ghostbusters makes sense as a theme. There's a new movie coming out next year (with virtually guaranteed sequels), it matches up with City/Town (and maybe Scooby-Doo) well enough, the subject matter and material are generally suitable enough for Lego's audience, and there's nothing like it on the market to compete with (Diamond Select has an upcoming action figure line and that's it). Even CMF Series 14 works well with it.

I would prefer a smaller set because it would be more affordable. Bigger sets are great but the price is really an issue and until they can find a way to reduce it, I don't think they should offer just a large set. Either have both or make it small enough so it's affordable.

Affordability is subjective, and these larger sets clearly aren't aimed at those who look for the cheaper sets. Their intention with this is more than likely to create something that is full of and highly detailed, large, and resembles very closely (as much as Lego can) the source material.

For you, you might simply display it, for others, they may well want to play with it. What is the point of having just an exterior? Where the figures run around an empty building. Even for display purposes, it limits the variety of displayed positions. You could only display it as a shell. Or, they can fill it with an interior, make it look interesting both inside and out, and people can display it opened up and adjust the interior/minifigs when they want.

Small unimpressive set<massive awesome expensive set. They clearly feel that the building requires a certain level of detail, and that enough people will be willing to purchase the set to make it profitable for them. They can't make everything affordable for everyone, or we would have far too many little unimpressive/mediocre/'oh that's pretty cool' sets with nothing creating a 'wow' factor. TLG have to push the boundaries to stay top toy maker, and that means sometimes creating something that might just be outside of some people's budgets/affordability.

I'm all in for this set! I think the last couple modulars were rather lacking, so it would be refreshing to see TLG put out a huge set for AFOLs. I don't need a 500-piece wall of bricks reminiscent of the recent City "mini-modulars". Hell, I could build that myself. I'll bet that Lego knocks the GB HQ outta the park.

It's a shame that the Lego basically took the Ideas submission, rejected it, and made their own set out of it so they wouldn't have to give profits to the creator of the set. I know that Ideas sets have price and part restrictions, but that's really cold...

I'm a fan of Ghostbusters, but not a huge fan. I've seen the movies (which are great) multiple times, and I watched the animated series as a child.

I probably won't be buying this, as most of my focus is on Castle, but I am very happy that they're making it. It sounds like it will be fantastic.

As to the discussion about the size, I'm glad this will be over 4000 pieces with a full interior. Anything less wouldn't really do justice to the source material. I couldn't imagine how it would look as a 500 piece set, but my instinct is to say it would be a waste. I completely get the affordability argument, but this set isn't aimed for affordability. This set sounds like it is aimed at Expert level AFOLs, and to be honest, they need to make more stuff like that. While I fully understand that LEGO is a children's toy company, I really appreciate the effort they make in targeting AFOLs and would appreciate it more if they did more of it.

And about the Ideas project, LEGO always said that they will reject an idea if it is something that was already planned. I wouldn't doubt that this was the case here, and the Ideas project only confirmed for them that there would be an audience for it.

So if they're planning a full wave, with more possible based on the new movies, I'm hoping to eventually see Vigo the Carpathian as a minifigure, and versions of the original Ghostbusters as their animated series versions.

They did it with that Avengers heli-thingy. Probably has something about Lego having the right to adopt the idea into a set outside of the Ideas line in their TaC. But who reads those? ;-)

Moreover, if it's really this large, it's likely they started work on it a long time ago, quite possibly before the Ideas project entered review. The Ideas guidelines and TOS do note the possibility of an Ideas project reflecting something already in the works, as well as noting that projects based on existing licenses being less likely to pass review (partly for this very reason). that project creator may well be the victim of unfortunate timing, just like the creator of the Western Town project.

Except they did make the Ecto-1 from an Ideas submission. It was even in the same wave as the one with the car and the headquarters that was not chosen. I highly doubt Lego would have been planning to make the headquarters prior to the Ideas set, but not the car. If I were the guy who came up with the car and headquarters Ideas set, I would be fairly upset right now. The only major difference between his submission and the one that got accepted was the fact he included the building, and now they are making it after all.

So, is this the nostalgia set we were waiting for?

What a let down! :sceptic:

Yes, this is the second nostalgic D2C set that just2good referenced last month.

Actually, the one that showed the building is the one that got accepted; the building was included to illustrate the project more fully, but wasn't part of the core proposal. There was a separate, later project of just the building that made it to review, but didn't get approved.

A news that litereally more than ten thousand fans are waiting for. Hopefully Janine makes her LEGO debut :p.

There is a grey zone. In the view of consumer, as long as LEGO is willing to keep their buisness with these licenses and do more sets that fans don't even ask for, it's never a bad thing. But it's indeed a dismay to project owners who made effort and lost time without getting paid eventually. Some others like SW and Frozen are at least more predictable.

Now just wonder if Jules Verne and Emerald City also appear in LEGO's plan....

I would imagine the initial proposal for the Ecto-1 was the inspiration for obtaining the license. Sure, that project had the headquarters, but that wasn't part of the proposal. After obtaining the license and releasing the Ecto-1 successfully, I'm sure LEGO had the intent to create the headquarters. Then along comes the actual headquarters Ideas project. I do get the point, and it would be disappointing if I were the original creator of that project, but I think that it makes sense the way it happened. And I honestly can't imagine getting the Ghostbusters license and not producing a headquarters.

Also, I expect some significant differences between the Ideas HQ design and the set that will be coming next year, in light of the rejected project and all.

The headquarters is such an obvious set once you have the license, not really fair to say LEGO stole it from Ideas IMO.

Still, I totally understand if the original creator of the Ideas project is a bit disappointed.
