kelceycoe Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) For the people who don't like the back (that's really what buildings look like that have been built against another building) what modifications do you propose changing? I think we'll get farther in this thread if we start making suggestions to our opinions or distastes. I suggest to those who hate the back... Make It Look Pretty... Buy some extra windows from Bricklink or even LEGO's Brick or Pieces when the set comes out and replace all the tan sections with windows. You may need extra bricks to fill in the spaces. You could also just make the wall a solid red with nothing at all. A plain red backing would look better to most people than a realistic backing of multiple tans. Turn the Set into a Modular Like the Movie... Or better yet make it a modular. Instead of attaching a building to the side, attach something, say the Detective's office building, to the back to cover the "ugly back." You'd have to remove the hinges and make the set unable to be opened (or simply just make the roof come off and the left side of the wall detachable, so many ways to open this set. It's gonna look a lot like a computer desktop tower so you can keep the roof and make it open from both sides like a computer desktop tower, lol). You'd also have to add the holey bricks and pegs but honestly those are cheap. What are your suggestions or plans to mod the back? Edited November 14, 2015 by kelceycoe Quote
parsom Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I don't see why you guys are complaining, you won't even see it if you display it properly. If I have to pay 350$/275£/350€ etc. for a set it should be perfect. Quote

Depending on the range of motion of the rear panel you may need to offset a second wall so it can open all the way. This in turn will force you to leave some of the "ugly" bricks as is. Again with using a modular, it may have to be offset to keep the side panel functional. This is also a pretty tall set. You will be limited as to what modulars you could potentially cover it up with. davidmull Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 This is ridiculous still no promotion/designer video with only 6 weeks to release :( Quote
Bricky Dee Williams Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 This is ridiculous still no promotion/designer video with only 6 weeks to release :( Helicarrier got its press release and video only 19 days before its VIP release. Quote
Hobbestimus Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Is this getting a VIP early release? Quote
CM4Sci Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Is this getting a VIP early release? Don't think so. It'd be a great idea for Christmas, though. Quote
(1)Stein Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Is this getting a VIP early release? No! Lego confirmed this on there FB page........ Quote
tafkatb Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Let me just point out again what an incredibly terrible idea it would be for this to have a VIP early release. Quote
Bricky Dee Williams Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Let me just point out again what an incredibly terrible idea it would be for this to have a VIP early release. Yes, the confusion amongst last minute shopping. I'd like to point out that I was simply pointing out the short time between video release and product release, sorry if I caused any confusion. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I want to see the designer video. They usually help me make up my mind. Quote
Chilis Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Omg, I almost cried when the rumours hit the street, and did when the pictures came. BUT, what on EARTH did Marcos had in mind when deciding that butt ugly wall?!? At his pricetag it should be perfect. With stickers it just reached close-to but now it`s not even close-to at all. Shame on somebody, mainly the designer. Now I/we have to spend even more money to fix the back with windows or bricks. Hm. Quote

That could possibly ruin the inside look, it again it's all in your opinion. As CM4Sci pointed out, you can display it a certain way so that it isn't seen. I for one think it looks good, it's not meant to be viewed from that side. If it were a side wall, such as the opening one, then I'd have a problem. I personally believe Mr. Bessa did a fantastic job. Quote

8BrickMario Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Who is Marcos? Marcos Bessa, LEGO set designer, and the one who made this set. Quote
Fightingswords Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 What the real backside looks like And the west side( hinged walls) Quote
Bricky Dee Williams Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 What the real backside looks like And the west side( hinged walls) I guess it all comes down to personal view. In my opinion, it doesn't detract all that much. But to others, it may. That's all there is to it, although it is interesting to see how that looks in reality. Quote
x105Black Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 And the west side( hinged walls) https://flic.kr/p/aoCkGi With the holes in the walls, I'd say it looks like a Modular! Quote
took9 Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Marcos Bessa, LEGO set designer, and the one who made this set. In this case it seemed to be a mod of the Swiss Ghostbusters Set. While it has the same style, 3 levels, etc. the biggest difference is the colour. Allmost all people I asked prefer the Swiss Ghosbusters colours inside&outside. So it's a bit dissapointing to get these colours, but I think they might be cheaper to produce even for TLG. But finally you get a quite similar set for a half price without spending much time in ordering via Bricklink... Quote
8BrickMario Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 This design was produced independently of Sergio's. Both are based on the same building, so the resemblances are going to be a result of the source material. There are noticeable differences in the details and the interiors, so I don't believe this design was ripping Sergio off. It's likely that the development began as soon as the Ecto-1 was finalized. took9 Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 I'm not a Ghostbusters fan and I can hardly remember the movie. So I can only refer to the sources I red (Swiss Ghostbusters HP): "The big kitchen, pool table on the 3th and not 2th floor as in the movie, Egon’s Lab also on the 3th floor, containment-unit places etc. – all that is not placed in this form in the movies and can therefore only be fictionally built...." For me it's hard to believe... Quote
zipper778 Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 I think I'm in the minority here, but even though the red bricks aren't accurate to the actual building, I like the look of the red bricks better. I think it'll pop more sitting on the shelf. I'm not interested at all in the Sergio controversy. I'm just glad this set was produced even if I don't end up buying it. Quote
