The only building sets I have (so far) are the Temple of Airjitzu and An Unexpected Gathering. I display these sets so don't see the interiors. But building the interior is a real joy and big part of the building experience for me. I love to discover all the little details that go inside these sets. Looking at the displayed sets and knowing there are full and wonderful interiors in them, gives these sets that extra bit of appeal and personality.

Edit: Oh, wait, I also have Jasmine's Exotic Palace, even that play (!) set has an interior. Sort of ;-)

Brent Waller here, Ghostbusters set project creator, I've more or less said the below elsewhere but for the record this is the first I've heard of this, but that doesn't mean it's not true however. I knew nothing of Ghostbusters appearing in LEGO Dimensions, any more than the rumours and speculation from the community.

There's several reasons it could be true.

  • New movie coming out will boost the popularity of the IP
  • Ghostbusters will be "out there" in the public eye even more early next year due to the inclusion in LEGO Dimensions
  • Large one-offs have been proven to be good sellers, Simpsons House, Kwik-E-Mart, Haunted House etc
  • Ecto-1 set has been very popular, that combined with the new movie coming out

There's also several reasons it may not be

  • It's bloody massive
  • Ecto-1 has been round a while now, in all likelihood it won't be on the shelves anymore in late 2016 if the Delorean is any guide. Seems like to make the most out of the HQ you'd ideally want both on the shelves together. Though I guess they could either extend production of the car or include it or a variant of it with the HQ
  • Releasing a set associated with the old films could be counter to the interests of any potential sets coming out for the new film. I mention this because I have heard rumours of this happening, not through LEGO though, through retailers so take that for what it's worth. This point could also be viewed as a positive I guess, just creating exposure for all forms of Ghostbusters.
  • The core concept (HQ) was rejected from LEGO Ideas twice. Though to be fair the Ideas platform has been proven to not be a good place to produce large sets.
  • It's bloody massive

Adding onto these points, bouncing off some of the things said in this thread. It kinda sucks myself and Sergio Hernacias (who did the stand alone HQ on Ideas) had nothing to do with this but who knows what's gone on behind the scenes, this could have been in the works since the Ideas set of mine passed review. I'd be nice if LEGO sent us both some sets though *subtle hint* It doesn't really bother me though, I'm more excited that it's (potentially) going to happen! I was personally going to disassemble my own HQ in favour of building Sergios has his has a full interior (though I'd keep my dark red colour scheme over the nougat/orange he used), so a REAL HQ set coming out I will be all over.

I've heard rumours through retailers (not LEGO themselves) about a line of Ghostbusters sets coming in 2016 for the new film so this could potentially be the equivalent of the Haunted House set to the Monster Fighters line, which makes sense, the HH proved popular even without a licensed attached (it was the only MF set I bought personally) so attaching the GB licensed to a big set like that is a no brainer from a business point of view.

LEGO is very secretive about their upcoming sets so it's understandable myself or Sergio (I haven't spoken to him about this personally yet so I'm not speaking for him) haven't been notified of this. There's a lot of legalities involved with various IP holders, retailers etc etc that it makes no sense to involve a outsider who has no real input to the process, we've seen more and more leaks in the past few years than ever before which is even more reason to be tighter with this kind of info.

As for the interior vs none comments, I see no point in going halfway with this type of set. I'd aimed at adults and collectors and anything short of complete is not going to cut it for something as iconic as the HQ. Unlike the various batcaves that have been released this I can't see being aimed at kids. It wouldn't surprise me if the HQ (

chinese restaurant

) from the new film is released as a playset however.

Hi Brent, thank you for your time to give us your thoughts on this rumored set.

Also, thanks for your awesome Ecto-1 Idea. It sits nicely next to the DeLorean in my display cabinet :-)

Edit: Oh, and minidoll Ghostbuster sets next year? ;-p

Death Star: 3,803 pieces, $399.99

Shield Helicarrier: 2,996 pieces, $349.99

Firehouse HQ: 4,600+ pieces, $349.00

Compared to the other large sets, $349 seems suspiciously cheap. I guess they could include NONE of the main characters and just expect you to buy the ecto1, but that would be unprecedented. Maybe it's a typo and it should be $449.00... :cry_sad:

I haven't actually looked closely at Sergios version but I personally used 1x2 dark red bricks in favour of larger pieces to add to the brick texture look. If they did the same in an official version that could up the piece count considerably. Has there been any previous sets that have used numerous smaller pieces over less larger ones to achieve that kind of textured look?

Or it could include Ecto-1A from Ghostbusters 2 or a Stay Puft (or both) which would account for the piece count.

Fake Edit>, I just checked the piece count of Sergios, it's 5704. His was a bit smaller than mine but with the full interior that certainly ups the part count. It's entirely plausible that 4600 pieces could be used on the firehouse alone.

I'm not disputing the piece count and I hope it is true: I really want them to go all out with the details and not just half-megablocks it. But I'm super surprised about the relatively low price. Given that the Death Star has 800 fewer pieces and yet costs $50 more, then that Star Wars license must be super expensive compared to Ghostbusters. Of course, it does help that the Ghostbuster brand hasn't been active for a very long time and may be very cheap to license.

This falls squarely in "shut up and take my money" territory as does any other Ghostbusters set. The exception would be the Dimensions packs (if Mr Staypuft comes out in a set, I dont need the Staypuft Dimensions pack, if Slimer comes in a set, I dont need the Slimer dimensions pack and I have the Ecto-1 so I am not yet convinced I need the GB level pack since the only new parts are new hair and new arm printing neither of which is worth the asking price for a Dimensions level pack especially if the arms or hair appear in a set)

Robie House from the Architecture line had 771 1x2 dark red plates out of 2276 total parts, (plus another 268 1x1 dark red plates!) and this was indeed used to represent the brickface of the building.

I'm pretty sure they got some kind of discount on the license or it was significantly cheaper. No way is the GB license more than Marvel or Star Wars. 4000 pieces is pretty generous for $350. I'm also pretty sure it's going to come with all of the main characters, maybe even more like the Rick Moranis and William Atherton characters.

So looking forward to this coming out if is true. I'm sure Lego will make a great job of the official version, which I'm sure will have a decent interior. A build like this needs a high piece count just to make it look realistic and resemble the real building. Allot of bricks required to fit around the high Windows. I did a mock of this a few years back and like Brent used a lot of 1x2's to give the brick effect. Mine was a modular build but look forward to this being like the HH where it opens up for view of interior and playability, maybe a bit like Sergio's opening on his Ideas version. The dollar exchange is equivalent to £225.00 but think it's would be worth every penny.

I really hope the reported # of pieces is true. I understand the price point is high for a lot of people but these types of sets are aimed at those of us with disposable income or those who want to save up for one big set for their kids for christmas or birthday. Similar to the UCS sets in that sense.

Expecting LEGO to release "two versions" is hilarious in its absurdity, why waste 2 slots in a line on the same kit when you can do one right? A tiny fraction of fans, even AFOLs, put their sets inside display cases, so the 'only exterior matters' attitude is incredibly niche. I struggle to even think of a set they made which was exterior-only - the Death Star II? And that wasn't cheap so affordability goes out the window there.

Yeah TLG aren't daft enough to release two versions of the same set that will be borderline indistinguishable when on shelves (except with one being cheaper). Especially when they know AFOLs who really don't want the interior will reuse or bricklink those pieces elsewhere.

The only "exterior only" sets I can think of were the early modulars like Café Corner and by far the most complaints about those was the lack of interiors, so suggesting AFOLs don't want them seems contrary to the evidence. Personally I enjoy building them even if they're not obvious when the models are sat on display.

Great to hear there may be some new sets based on the new film. Hopefully there will be a set based on the new Ecto-1.

I really need to see the details to determine whether or not I would consider saving $350 for the set.

My hopes:

(1) It is big, even with the detailing

(2) There is no redundancy with the four main figures and Ecto-1. Hopefully, they will maintain production of Ecto-1 to go alongside this set. That also allows those pieces to be used for the structure itself than using approximately 500 for a vehicle that die hard collectors already have eating into the piece count. That is good for you too, Brent!

(3) Along with #2, If they make the 4 ghostbusters, perhaps they will be in their non uniform variants, for example, Spengler will have his lab coat on. Venkmann could be dressed to go out with Dana, etc.

(4) Agreed that the piece count vs price seems generous. This could imply there are lots of 1x1 squares and rounds and the like. I just hope it looks like a $350 set.

(5) No stickers. A premium set should not have them.

I think it would be nice to see the rest of the team with arm printing, unless they are coming to Dimensions in the future. While I understand not wanting to feel like the spaces were "wasted" on redundant figures, imagine someone thinking "$350 for a Ghostbusters set, and they don't even have their iconic uniforms?!"

I hope it does come with the Ghostbusters characters (in new versions with arm printing, different faces and any better more appropriate hair) but without the Ecto-1 (since I already own one).

I hope it comes with at least one ghost (the lack of a ghost in the Ecto-1 was the biggest disappointment with the set IMO)

Considering the price is about $50 cheaper than one would expect from a 4,000 piece set, I'm guessing that a version of the Ecto-1 will be included. People with the original set won't be paying for it, pieces wise, and people who don't already have it will be glad for one.

Yeah, having a Ghostbusters set without the Ghostbusters in their iconic uniforms would be effectively suicide for LEGO.

Irrespective if it comes with an interior, Ecto 1 or a number of minifigs, this set is going to need a large box and is going to be fairly heavy with this piece count. Glad my nearest Lego store is near the car park and train station.

I am also glad that my nearest lego store is 3 more tube stops from where I live. :) :sweet: Though the box would be massive and heavy, the way home would be amazing carrying such a big box!
