I totally agree Fuppylodders.

The back wall is no beauty, but it doesn't bother me at all.

I think it is easy to understand the tradeoffs that has been made, and I think the end result is excellent! I think we are lucky to get such a big set, and I applaud TLG for doing it - they could have gone with a smaller / cheaper version to make it available to more people but instead made something big. This is realistically the best version of the GBHQ we could wish for TLG to produce. Sure I wouldn't mind a few more figures, prints instead of stickers, more tiles etc, but it would just add to the price.

I hope TLG will make more large sets in the $350+ range, and I think it is very cool that they mix it up a bit and make big sets that is not part of the regular Star Wars UCS/modular houses/landmark series.

Wow, I guess I missed over that particular image when browsing through them. That wall is indeed horrendously ugly! Yuck!

I've often found it a shame that LEGO didn't keep the old version of that panel piece in production. The new one with the indent is good for some things, but the old one with no indent was very useful for building walls that actually, you know, look good from either side. The older non-indent version would've saved the Kwik-E-Mart from the same issue with no sweat.

Holy crow, I forgot that was a thing. Straight-up 1x6x5 brick. I don't even think I have any of these.

You're right about the Kwik-E-Mart, though the comparison understates the issue. With the Kwik-E-Mart, I didn't give it more than a passing thought, since the color scheme was appropriate. It looked like a finished set. Here, the effect is far more jarring, and not solely due to the part selection. It looks unfinished. As far as I can see, the only reason the color is off is as a sacrifice to maintining the color integrity of the interior. I would have sacrificed the interior column color before the exterior wall, but that's just me. (Or not).

I don't generally mod the sets I buy to build, but maybe this will be a first? Or maybe I'll just get over it? I don't know, and I suppose that's why I'm uneasy, since I really dislike that wall. But I guess I won't really know until I see the bricks in front of me.

Off to read more about 1x6x5s!

P.S. I'm a fan of the new, relaxed policy on leak discussion. It seems perfectly fair and has been quite helpful. Thanks!

The back wall, I can see covering it up with some large plates, studs facing backwards, just have to add a few bricks with studs on the face to the back wall. Easy enough. Maybe cover the back facing studs with tiles if I wanted to get fancy.

Seeing as its listed on the lego website, its not really a 'leak' anymore, its official.

Sorry, you're right, it doesn't really fit here at all. It was a general comment about a post which that mod made elsewhere. It didn't warrant its own post, so I tacked it onto an unrelated reply. Too much thread-hopping on my end, I guess.

Still not-so-patiently waiting for that designer video. For this and the Brick Bank. Any new rumors/info for the release of those?

I'm torn because as a LEGO fan I get a lot of the concerns about what could be considered flaws, especially if your focus is trying to integrate it into a Modular display you've already invested a lot in.

But, on the other hand, as a Ghostbusters fan, I think this might honestly be the greatest piece of officially licensed merchandise the franchise has ever gotten. No exaggeration.

I much prefer this one. While it may look good on the outside, the opening method on the proposal leaves the inside far too cluttered and nearly inaccessible. The official one provides plenty of room and space, and makes the building interior feel properly large when opened up. If people are really condemning this set for one wall and the bonus feature of fitting the Ecto requiring a bit of removed furniture, then I feel sorry for you. LEGO is designed to be changed and improved. If some fixable flaws are preventing you from buying a set...at least you're saving money.

LEGO should have produced THIS (LEGO Ideas) version http://www.swissgb.c...tbusters-hq-v2/

I think every AFOL as well as Ghostbusters fan would have bought it instantly - it looks superb, I can't find anything bad with this model, unlike the official LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ set.

Why LEGO, why???

Little to no discernible benefit (seriously, let's not kid ourselves here) for what would've likely been a 20-25% increase in cost over not just the piece count, but the logistics of moving all that extra weight as well, the answer is fairly obvious. Even if they had gone with the Swiss HQ idea instead of -- and I'll take their word for it -- internal project, the changes necessary to make the former more cost-efficient would in all likelihood have badly gutted the end result, or required a complete overhaul anyway (I don't pretend to have any inside information on the process, just applying common sense).

As for the Ideas concept suffering a PR loss over this, or the similar situation with the Helicarrier? If anything, it's a long-overdue lesson to be learned... for the fan community. The ridiculously oversized projects people are submitting are certainly cool mocs and a good way to get a day in the spotlight and some bragging rights, but there's virtually no thought given to any commercial feasibility in a vast majority of them. I can understand people being upset over their high hopes getting shattered, but if those people refuse to accept or understand the risk of wasting time and money on something that only gets "considered" because the rules necessitate it, they are indeed better off steering clear of the whole thing. Not trying to be rude, but I'm not going to sugarcoat it either.

With that said, Sergio's arguments or TLG's responses to them are really none of my business, so I shouldn't dwell on the matter any further. I'll just stick to marveling at the fact we are getting insane things like the Firehouse, and kissing my money goodbye.

TLGs version: 4634 pieces.

Swiss version:5704 pieces.

1130 pieces more.

Thats a fair whack in price increase. I can bet a LOT of people would choose not to get it simply because of the price. Look how many currently are put off simply by the price.

I also completely agree with everything Lawngnome said.

Lots like it and lots will be it including me :) Lego done a superb job.

I can't wait to pick this set up! I really did not expect this level of detail. It's one of the best Lego surprises of the year for me. :-)

Totally agree. Don't know what people are moaning about it's a great set.

If I'm following the discussion correctly, they're complaining about the fact that it has so many pieces that it's unaffordable, and also that it doesn't have enough pieces.

Really, nothing bad? Just for starters, you can't reach the fire pole or the kitchen behind the stairs. It suffers the same "can't open the doors when the Ecto-1 is inside" problem LEGO's has, but without the modular office furniture to account for it.

I don't mean to sound like I'm attacking it - I think it's a superb MOC. But without some major modification to make it a more fun playset, and not just a big display piece, it's not a set I'd have bought.

IMO I think this set going to flop, its 350€ not so detailed dollhouse type set with license from 30 years old movie.I think they expecting that major part of buyers will be from fans and buyers on nostalgia vibes.

With what else they've got planned for next year? I doubt it.

Oh I was wrong.... I was thinking this is a 2015 set

I forgot this will be released on 2016 hahaa

You're aware that movie is pretty darn popular... right? I mean, it's not like they're doing a set based on Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. This is Ghostbusters - I reiterate, GHOSTBUSTERS. It still plays in theaters from time to time - I saw it with a huge audience just earlier this year, and it still got a great reaction. And that was a theater-specific screening; it also had general rereleases in both 2011 and 2014. It's the top-grossing comedy of its entire decade, and when adjusted for inflation it still ranks in the top 40 box office grossing movies in history. It was nominated for multiple Oscars and Golden Globes, and it consistently is included on lists of greatest movie comedies ever, frequently in high rankings. There are still legions of fans; I frequently see huge numbers of Ghostbuster cosplayers at DragonCon each year.

The fact that the movie is over 30 years old is as irrelevant to this set's commercial prospects as the number of folds in the napkin closest to you. Star Wars is seven years older than Ghostbusters; by your criteria, that would make it automatically a colossal disaster, and clearly it's been draining LEGO all these years and bringing it close to bankruptcy. Do you think that's the case?

If the set fails it'll be simply because it's so super-expensive; there are plenty of people who'll want it but just can't afford it. But I unconditionally guarantee you there are plenty of Ghostbusters fans.

As for "not so detailed", I wonder what your basis for comparison is. I have a hard time thinking of any LEGO set ever released that's more detailed than this one. It's lavish with detail.

Four. The closest napkin to me was folded approximately four times. I know this wasn't directed towards me, but after reading that I had to find the nearest napkin and count the folds. Then I'd already spent enough time for this post to feel warranted.

Four folds in my napkin.

Carry on.
