LegoFjotten Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 So, do they try and one-up the Ideas set as well? My guess would be no, rather a somewhat simplified/smaller version. I'll still love my Ecto-1 even if there is a new version in this set. As for precedence, I don't think it affects the D2C sets too much what other regular sets have been/will be released; IMO a D2C set will always be able stand on it's own in terms of content and figures even if it means repeat (or slightly altered) figs & vehicles. Look at the Simpsons House for example, no way they would have released that without the whole family even if all the figs appear in very similar form in the CMF line. Same for the CMF line, it would make no sense to not have the whole family as part of that series. Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Interesting about the updated figures with the arm printing. Now the focus is on Ecto-1 itself. As much as it pains me to say this, I am beginning to believe there will be another one in this set. So, do they try and one-up the Ideas set as well? If so, those of us who bought the original set are going to feel like people who bought Windows Version "X" right before the release of Windows Version "X+1". If they are going to go through the trouble of updating the arm prints, thus creating a superior minifig to the originals, it leads me to believe they will simply let the Ideas set run out and put the car in this one, leaving everyone who bought the first set with a feeling like they now have something outdated. Also, to address a point made previously, there actually is a precedence for Lego making two depictions of the same scene, even in the same wave. In Lord of the Rings, they made a "Wizard Battle" set, and a "Tower of Orthanc". The Tower of Orthanc contained almost the same depiction of the Wizard Battle scene within it. There would be somewhat of a parallel to it if they put Ecto-1 and the four ghostbusters in the firehouse. I don't know how they could top the Ideas Ecto-1. Brent Waller's design was perfect. Besides, if they do include it it would probably only be a tiny version anyway like the Family Sedan in The Simpsons House. Quote
badbob001 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) Since the focus is the HQ, it's very likely that there will be a mini simplified version of ecto1 for props purposes. Kind of like the mini-version of MetalBeard in the Sea Cow set. The car will likely top out at seating two characters but may have an awesome opening rear hatch (play features!). This will also mean that the Lego Ideas one will be much too big to fit into the garage and will have to settle for street parking. I think it's very rare for LEGO sets to be designed for close integration with another set, like an expansion pack. All I can think of right now is Jabba's Palace + Ranchor Pit. Robianco Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Even if they did decide to put ECTO-1A in this set I still think they could put the 'Ghostbusters' logo on the firehouse rather then have to go with the 'II' logo. I picked up the NACM pad printed arms for my Ideas set figures but now they've got the dimensions figure with both arms printed etc it would make sense to have them all printed again in this set... and having Venkman slimed is also another nice addition. Having ECTO-1A would give new buyers a car to use with the station as well as being different from the Ideas set so those already with that set could simply use the original ECTO-1 with the station set and display ECTO-1A separately. I don't see them having a tiny car though. The Ideas set was 508 pieces including minifigures and stand. Take 33 off for the stand and we have 475 pieces for the car and figures... that leaves over 4100 pieces for the station itself. Haunted House was 2035 pieces and around 25 of those was for the figures so we've got more than twice the piece count of the Haunted House to work with just for the station build. Those kind of figures say they don't need to scrimp on anything. Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I don't see them having a tiny car though. If The Simpsons House didn't have a Family Sedan the size of the Ideas Ecto-1 (which it didn't), then the Ghostbusters Firehouse certainly won't given that an Ecto-1 set already exists unlike the Family Sedan from Simpsons. Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Using a full size car would break the scale of the set and take up far too much parking space. If the Ecto's in the set, it's probably downsized by a lot. Quote
Robianco Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) I don't think that's a basis for that comparison. The Simpsons license wasn't acquired to make a family sedan leaving them to have a smaller version in a large follow up set. As has been shown there's plenty of examples of Lego adding a very slightly modified, almost identical, vehicle as a standalone set and as part of a larger set very close together (if not actually overlapping). You'll also have two Jedi star fighters on the shelf at the same time come January. Having an ECTO-1 and ECTO-1A as similar sized vehicles is certainly possible especially when looking at the piece count of the set as a whole. We're not talking about a 2000 piece set that will have 1/4 of the whole count taken up with figures and a car... it's less than 1/10th of the total pieces to create the same sized vehicle. Using a full size car would break the scale of the set and take up far too much parking space. If the Ecto's in the set, it's probably downsized by a lot. I'm still not convinced it would break the scale of the set that much. The MF Hearse was around the same size as ECTO-1 and admittedly looked quite large next to the HH... but we're talking about twice the piece count of the HH... so there's no need to go too small on the car just to get it to fit in with the scale of the building. It very well end up being a smaller version but I don't see it needing to be overly small to fit a scale. The SwissGB HQ v2 is 5700 parts and is a 3 storey firehouse with full interior detailing on all floors that comfortably fits ECTO-1... it's not too much of a stretch to think Lego could simplify things and make it fit for less parts. Your reason for them not making ECTO-1 the same size is that they didn't make the Simpson's sedan that big with the house therefore they'll shrink it. My reasoning is that the Simpsons house is the main set and the car is simply a small part of it and isn't nearly as iconic or important as ECTO-1 / ECTO-1A. Having ECTO-1 already created, and having the Firehouse almost twice the piece count of the Simpson's house means they could easily create something that would fit... so no.. it's isn't really comparable. ECTO-1A is different enough to have collectors interested enough to be happy while also giving those that don't give a toss a vehicle to use with the firehouse. In the end it doesn't really matter... we're all guessing... but with it being the third largest Lego set ever produced then I think we can expect them to be able to fit a decent sized car. Quote

Indeed, and the proton packs are also a dozen pieces each (13, actually, counting the brackets that hold them on the minifigures' neck posts). The four team members, their carried gear, a and the display base total 106 pieces. That's just over a fifth of the parts in the set (and all stuff we do expect this new set to essentially duplicate - I don't see them leaving out a team member, or enough proton packs to go around for all four of them). The extant Ectomobile uses 402 pieces for the car itself. They could easily use the exact same build, or very close to it, plus four proton packs, and all the same characters plus three to five more (Janine, Dana, Louis, Slimer, and perhaps Walter Peck) and still have well over 4000 pieces, which should certainly suffice to build an impressive station. Heck, the 10188 Death Star has "only" 3803 pieces, and some of those go toward a couple dozen figures and a chibi-style TIE. As has been shown there's plenty of examples of Lego adding a very slightly modified, almost identical, vehicle as a standalone set and as part of a larger set very close together (if not actually overlapping). You'll also have two Jedi star fighters on the shelf at the same time come January. That's also true, and even more so if we don't limit it to sets released at almost the same time. Imperial Inspection used the same Imperial Shuttle build, save for perhaps one small part near the back, as the first Imperial Shuttle set, even while adding a bunch of stuff. The 6502 and 6212 versions of the X-Wing fighter use almost the exact same build for the ship itself, just with different other stuff. Ultimate Space Battle uses the same builds as the contemporaneous Jedi Starfighter and Droid Tri-fighter sets. Outside Star Wars, the Double-Decker Couch set from The LEGO Movie includes both the same double-decker couch from MetalBeard's Sea Cow and a version of Emmet's car very similar to the free one from the TRU promotional build event, which in turn was just a very slightly reworked version of the LEGO City set Small Car from a few years ago. Robianco Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I would disagree with that notion. I think the Family Sedan is as iconic as the Ecto-1. To each their own... but I don't think the Simpson's sedan with family would have been such a flagship set as ECTO-1 was. It would have felt incomplete. The couch is more iconic than the car. I must admit... after your comments regarding the piece count and how ridiculous it is... and that Lego shouldn't make sets that large THEN commenting on the Dr Who thread that you would pay more than the price of the firehouse just for an interior of the TARDIS (I think the comment was "I'd spend over £200. Hell, I would actually go bankrupt")... I was starting to think you were trolling this thread. Quote

Captain Nemo Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Dropping my two cents, I'd be utterly shocked if a 4600+ piece set of a garage doesn't include a car. I honestly do have trouble believing why this set would require so many pieces in the first place, considering the interior is largely an open space for a vehicle and the exterior is fairly plain. So if it doesn't include a vehicle--what are all of the parts being used for? 4600 is seriously a huge number of pieces after all. It also doesn't make sense for Lego to ask someone to spend $350 on the Ghostbusters HQ--expecting them to then spend $50 on their car (assuming that set is still in production). Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Yeah, this better be a spectacular set for that price, in detail, playability, and minifigures. Quote

If you would recall, I said on the same thread that 'I'm a Whovian first and foremost'. Therefore it is only logical I would personally spend more on Doctor Who. I do love Ghostbusters but it can't beat Doctor Who in my eyes and I'd pay anything for Doctor Who. Quote
dr_spock Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 How many 1x1and1x2 plates are required to do the brickwork if they don't use the mason profile bricks? It is not a technic set so half of the 4600 parts won't be technic pins. Quote

Same logic applies to us,including me, who support the rumour of TLG's release of 4600 pieces set with $350, would love to see a Ghost busters HQ set with great attention to detail, which would not compromise the size, nor reducing the number of pieces down around 500+, and would pay anything if this set comes out! Maybe... but you've never commented that you only feel the way you did about set sizes on all but Dr Who sets... "Bigger sets are great but the price is really an issue and until they can find a way to reduce it, I don't think they should offer just a large set". No mention of sets from any other theme but Dr Who. I'm a Star Wars and DC fan but I'm happy for them to make massive sets for all themes... because I'm also a Lego fan. I also have a passing interest in Dr Who but not enough for me to be remotely excited about a massive interior of a TARDIS.. that doesn't mean I wouldn't like them to make one and I certainly wouldn't complain about them making it even if I thought it was out of my price range. That would be rather selfish of me. Quote
Borex Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Maybe they add twenty stud shooters and 3000 studs? Then we can have a chibi Ecto-1, the whole team and a juniors building style fire house with a few big stickers with cartoony ghosts on them? Quote
ultron32 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Okay, the Ghostbusters will be in their outfits that have the updated arm printing from Dimensions, but Peter will have an exclusive slimed variant! That's awesome. Thanks for the info J. Glad to hear that the Ghostbusters are the new versions with arm printing, but as the person above, I was kind of hoping for this: <snip> From the Real Ghostbusters animated series. Would be cool. Maybe they'll do that in another set in the future? Hhhmm, if they do reveal this at NYCC I wonder if somehow something like those could be the exclusive event minifigures? I would disagree with that notion. I think the Family Sedan is as iconic as the Ecto-1. No. I completely disagree. I have seen both Ghosbusters movies years ago and the Ecto-1 is very recognizable, iconic, etc. I am admittedly not a very big fan of Simpsons but I have seen several episodes at least and if not for the LEGO set I wouldn't even know that the car was pink. Maybe they add twenty stud shooters and 3000 studs? Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 My guess is that the set will incorporate elements from both films. For the rooms, I expect: Reception for Janine Dining area w/television and Chinese takeout Room where the toaster experiment occurs, "dancing" mechanism included and some pink "slime" on the table. Darkroom with pictures of Vigo's painting hanging up (should be printed) Two signs (GB1 or GB2 option) Garage area for the Ecto-1 that will inevitably be included. Fire pole which sells Ray on the building Closet for uniforms I know that a few of these won't be done, but they certainly seem have the room for it, with three or four floors. Quote
jonwil Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I hope they use the masonry profile bricks for this, they would fit perfectly (and be better than normal bricks or plates) Quote
Jbricks Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 After seeing that piece count, my first thought was "this isn't just the firehouse". I have a feeling that Stay Puft could be included, to provide an antagonist. It would be just like Treebeard in the tower of Orthanc. Quote
jedijon Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I'd rather have any two modular buildings than one of these...and it so happens there's two I've yet to buy. I won't reach the end of my LEGO 'want list' and find this purchase staring me down. It just won't be happening. Heck, I struggle to think of howuch enthusiasm I could've had for a version of the HH at $350. And at that size, complexity it would stand out from other modulars in a bad way. Quote
