doug72 Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Last minute improvements Improved two stage worm gear reduction unit now built and installed giving a 64;1 ratio at the top of the tower for slewing drive. Overall reduction for slewing is 320:1 but will be reduced to either 160:1 or 192:1 by gearing at L motor output axle. Front view of 64:1 gear reduction unit. doug72 Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 Improvements can now be revealed that were carried out after the contest entry & voting closed. 1/. Tower re-designed to allow all three drives to pass up inside the tower and stop tendency of the tower to twist when slewing. 2/. Base unit & motors layout modified to allow for new drive arrangement. 3/. Universal couplings eliminated 4/. Lego legal counterweight replace by a neater housing containing a block of steel.
