Zaktan of the Shadows Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Hrm...If he's going to be released later in the year with the swamp sets, that might be a possibility! Thats what I mean... theres going to be a chance, and that makes me happy. :-D -ZotS Quote
Dino_Bot Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Toa Ignika, and Toa Lewa are mine. They are HOT. Like...dead sexy. Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 You're probably right. Greg did say in his blog that the rising gas prices are having an impact on TLC. This must be the result.... I blame the middle eastern oil monopolies. And, as Rush on EIB calls them, the enviormentalist wackos, who refuse to let the USA drill for oil in Alaska. But I'm not going to get into all the political aspects of this problem - drat, already let my mouth slip. :-| :-P Hahaha... I used to be like you. Back in '91, all my first car had was an AM radio. I hooked many people onto him. But now, being on the internet, I see he's just a tool for the party, capable of lying and intellectual dishonesty. Still ok to listen to now and then, just for a different take on things. But in extremely small measure mind you. Well, new sets are out, and here my Walmart is... nothing. Just a ton of Barraki and some Mahri thrown in for color. Judging from the past, I probably won't see anything in this section of the US until, oh, late February. No doubt brought straight from the stockroom and unpacked into a bargain aisle. :-| On a good note, the only one I still am interested in is Pohatu. :-D Quote

But now, being on the internet, I see he's just a tool for the party, capable of lying and intellectual dishonesty. Still ok to listen to now and then, just for a different take on things. But in extremely small measure mind you. Hey, he's not the only one I've listened to, and although you probably weren't thinking this, no way am I an "uber loyal idolizer." :-P Hannedy, Savage, and Ingram (sp?) are all good too, it's just that Rush and that nickname came to my mind when I was thinking about these enviormental and gas related issues. Besides, it's either that lot and a few others or Keith Oberman and Chris Mathews on NBC. :-X And since I'm conservative, which would I really choose? X-D BTW, I've learned in my experiences with lego shopping that Walmart is always last to get the latest sets out. The TRU nearest to me has a lot of 2008 Exo-force, Racers, and other stuff, while TRU is lacking anything new. Unfortunately, even TRU hasn't gotten in the new Bionicle, starwars, town, or most of the other themes in yet. Also, not being an extreme and totally expert MOC'er like you, Jinzo, Pohatu really has no use for me. Lewa on the other hand is okay better, and I might get him if I decide to spend all my money on legos again next year. But that may just not be the case.... X-O :-P Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Well, it's the way I determine if a set is worth getting or not really. It might be different for others depending on what's already in their parts bins. For me, it's his special (symmetrical left and right!) forearms, the multi-purpose pincers and you can never go wrong with more of those trans domes. Noone else really has anything interesting for me to add. Alot of tripe parts are in these sets. Still, it's FAR from the worst Bionicle wave ever. At least there's a little variety in appearance and part assortment among the characters. Still, meh... too many junk parts, not enough room to build... Quote
Clonie Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u198/uz...14-12-07181.jpg GEARS. ON. ICARAX. Okay, I like him now. More. :P Quote
Ikki o' Moopyville Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 ... he still sucks. :-P -Ikk Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 CHEST LAUNCHER. ON. ICARAX. Yup, still poor :P Never been a fan of spinny weapons... I kinda liked what they did on Keetongu and Roodaka, but the fact that those were built into their arms sucked. - Helden Quote
Dino_Bot Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I think I will sell Makuta and buy Icarax. Ignika's sled is lovely. Quote
Clonie Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 That doesn't make sense. "He still sucks" doesn't apply to any of the Toa Mata, does it? Two functional gears make them advanced and amazing, right? It makes up for that fact that they have less articulation than the 14-piece 2008 Matoran, right? Add to that the fact that I like the Mata, which that means they automatically suck. Why shouldn't Icarax have a chest launcher anyway? Does it go against the story, of which you know next to nothing? Or is it the lack of complexity? Even though he has gears, which are really advanced stuff, which is why the new sets, while doubling in piece count since the Mata, are less advanced? Wait, whose logic is twisted, again? On the down side though, his Kongu Mahri eyes are still lime as opposed to orange like the rest of the evil 2008 sets. On the up side to that, you can only really see them when the mask is flipped to its ugly state, which I won't do often. And the red 2 plus rod acts as eyes for the normal side. Wow, a use for a red plus rod! :P Well, I looking at these new pics, I approve of Icarax. I wasn't a huge fan before. I can't believe how bad that box pose is. 8- Quote

Geez, Clonie, relax. Why are you getting so worked up about it? First of all, gears and their functions were new in 2001. After seven years, they aren't. Second, you seem to think that gears make or break a set -- they don't. Note that I say Icarax STILL sucks, meaning he is a poor set despite his interesting usage of gears. The Mata would've still been awesome even without gears. What I really want is some innovative functions, be it by gears or not. I do not think a spinning weapon classifies as being that, though it's a nice attempt. And for the love of everything, get that ugly body-with-ball away from me. -Ikk Quote
Dino_Bot Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I think one can judge whether a set sucks or not once he or she owns it... Unless the suck factor is obvious, like the Visorak. Personally, I think all the new sets have enormous potential. I just won't be buying the vampire things because they're not my style and I don't think they belong well with Bionicle. In fact, I'm going to be selling some of my older sets. Those being the Piraka, mostly. Quote
Clonie Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 He said three words, which were just giving his opinion. I don't think all those personal attacks were necessary, do you? You seem to take this very personally for someone not liking a toy line :-D I can respect you have your opinion, and I can respect he has his. I hope you can do the same :-) Yeah, I was just confused at the logic. It's been cleared up: Geez, Clonie, relax. Why are you getting so worked up about it? I dunno. I'd rather vent my anger here than on real people. First of all, gears and their functions were new in 2001. After seven years, they aren't. Second, you seem to think that gears make or break a set -- they don't. Oh, I thought that you thought they do. :P Note that I say Icarax STILL sucks, meaning he is a poor set despite his interesting usage of gears. The Mata would've still been awesome even without gears. Well I say he is cool. Now we both have our opinions out on the table. So we'll leave them there. Unless you want to know why I think he's cool, but I doubt it. I'm younger than you. My opinion is less valid. What I really want is some innovative functions, be it by gears or not. I do not think a spinning weapon classifies as being that, though it's a nice attempt. And for the love of everything, get that ugly body-with-ball away from me.-Ikk The set designers have already done advanced sets (2001, 2002 large sets), they've proven they can be inventive, so why do it again, especially when it didn't sell in the first place? The set sales are improving, so that means they're pleasing more people with the newer sets. I think. I might be wrong. I think the spinny shields are fun, so yeah. Play value. Better than nothing. Hey, they could have done it without gears, but they included them. I think one can judge whether a set sucks or not once he or she owns it... You can also sorta judge it if you have every piece on the set and can build it yourself... lol. Well I will have every piece after I get Antroz. But he comes out when Icarax does, which makes MOCing him pointless. D'oh. Quote

Zarkan Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Never been a fan of spinny weapons... I kinda liked what they did on Keetongu and Roodaka, but the fact that those were built into their arms sucked. I liked them too, which is why I got Keetongu. I thought he was better than Roodaka because at least it seemed that he was holding his weapons or that they were strapped onto his arms, instead of actually BEING his arms and hands like Roodaka. :-/ Oh, and about the chest launcher; the only reason for him not to have it is that it still ranks as probably the single most unusable torso ever, and the concept of a villain literally shooting their upper chest onto someone still just doesnt sit well with me. Stole the words right out of my mouth. This is by far the biggest reason why the Phantoka Makuta, Icarax, and Mutran have no appeal to me. Even the Hordika torso was far more useful than their "torso" (I actually built a decent MOC around one of those! ;-) ), and the fact that TLC just HAD to add another launcher gimmic to Bionicle is just :-X Quote

Keep in mind, Grevious, that I'm not talking about you. First off, this isn't a gimmick. It's much more a function than a gimmick. The entire body works around this idea... and is that not the same idea that the Toa Mata, Bohrok, Nuva, and Rahkshi had in common? The Piraka, Barraki, Inika... they all had gimmicks. The Phantoka Makuta are no different from the specific Toa Mata bodies, and trust me, those bodies, just like those of the Phantoka, are NOT useless parts. My two cents. Complain about the Phantoka Nuva... THEY have gimmicks. Quote

Shakar Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Happy Chirstmas to everyone! I personally like the torsos the Phantoka Makuta feature. However, more than a functionality thing, it's something that has to do with aesthetics. I love how their chests look like empty ribcages filled by trans orange energy spheres. It's just so creepy and fitting for a Makuta. Shakar Quote
