VBBN Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 EDIT: ~VBBN~, the green Toa that comes with Axalara T9 that TLC is pretending is Lewa has the spiky visor too.[/color] Oh, yeah, forgot that. His is now trans-blue as well. Quote
Zarkan Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Ugh, that stinks. Good thing I have the Phantoka I wanted. And matoran prices will be $7.00. .... I hate this. And this could all be solved (well, some of it at least) if those environmentalists would let up and let us drill for oil in Alaska, which is part of OUR country. |-/ I nerver noticed this but Onua had the same chest armor as Krika. I don't care about that as much as I care that he is wearing a MASK OF SHADOWS. Onua isn't the MOMN, TLC, and you know that! >:-( Quote
Shine Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Woah, Look! This MM set has white visors in between the saws!http://toyfair08.asmzine.com/gallery/lego/...al/DSC03748.jpg 8- Quote
Clonie Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Okay, thoughts. Now that we have more final pics. ------ 8688 Toa Gali The limbs and torso actually work for her. I don't mind the Inika limbs are forearms, I don't think they're that bulky really. The shoulder armour I'm pretty neutral towards. Silver as opposed to grey is better -- it's a neutral colour, like grey, and makes the Nuva look like a team, but the slight difference between grey and silver gives them the look of seperate teams as well. I like how they picked the three colours that look best with grey for the Phantoka Nuva and the three that look best with silver for the Mistika Nuva. So yeah, Gali's colours are the best possible choice for her. The flat chest actually has some charm to it. I'd rather she didn't have tits thanks. The Kaukau looks a bit better from that angle, but not perfect. Actually, it looks good, just not Gali-ish, at the moment. That might change. The ears are about 10% fail. The weapon is of the most fail of the set, because how does she shoot water from that? Oh wait -- the swamp water. That's even more effective than regular water, and there's plenty of it, and so there's no need to shoot water. Okay, no beefs apart from the mask. :-P But still, the gun itself looks cheapish... Also I believe she is a little hunched. Like the difference between Toa Nokama/Nuju's necks and Toa Matau/Vakama/Onewa/Whenua's necks. Gali's neck is like the latter group. :-/ ------ 8689 Toa Tahu Win. The legs are Piraka shins. The arms are as well. Piraka shins are win. The armour is Toa Metru armour. That's the best choice, as Inika thighs are maybe a little overused. The feet are Inika feet which go with Piraka limbs, and he has claws in his shins, which also look cool. The colour scheme is Metru red and silver. Total win. His body is a backwards Piraka body but I like how it was done -- the jet engines give it a minor appearance of front bulk so it looks less flat, even though it is. The jets themselves are still a mystery in their story function, but they look better on Tahu than the other two so far. Yay for Metru red fins. Yay for Metru red in general. The weapon looks really good, probably the best Toa of Fire weapon ever, in terms of how it would shoot fire. I mean, imagine that spinning while flames come out of it. A bit cooler than being shot out of a sword. Plus more respect comes from the fact that the blades are detachable. His Nynrah looks the best of the bunch, probably due to the lack of attachments in favour of a real weapon. And the mask. I admire the balls it took to itentionally remove the mouth by using a detachable plus rod. I think this is a good Hau design. It doesn't look like the old Haus, but then again I never understood why a Mask of Shielding needs giant holes in it. Not to mention that design already, you know, exists, so they can still try a different look of the Hau while still making it look Tahuish and Hauish. Which it does. Hey, at least it has cheek lines. In short, Tahu is total win, and possibly my favourite canister set ever. *wub* ------ 8690 Toa Onua Okay, I really misjudged him. He's quite nice. His mask is interesting. I don't need to say that it looks like a Kraahkan, but I just did. I'm not sure if it's Onuaish though. Bit hard to tell. Looks like a Mask of Strength though. I think the original Pakari Nuva is the most Onuaish mask of the three, at the moment. The arms are weird in that the armour parts are on the back. I was a little worried about this at first but I built one of the arms out of my own parts and it actually looks okay. So +1 respect for innovativenessish. The shield looks okay, but that was kinda ruined when they decided to use about twenty of them on other sets. And the wings could have been any colour and still looked better than Mata red. Seriously. Think of a worse colour to make them. Oh wait -- Mata blue. Mata green. Notice a pattern? :-P The torso is kinda meh, but at least it's not an Inika chest plate like the previous two Toa of Earth. His Matoran connector lacks Inika shoulder armour under it -- it's connected straight to the body. And his neck is connected via a plus rod, which means no wobbly head for once. The legs seem to have an actual construction around the shins which is good, but I'm still not sure about the jet things, I'll wait until we find out their story function. The Mata red is kinda eye soreish, but that's Mata red for you. And, er, the feet are okay. I'd complain about the Nynrah attachment but I don't know what it looks like. :-P I like how all three of these look great with transparent lime eyes. But then again, so do the other three. ------ I'll do the rest after. This takes too long. :-P Quote
FlamingShadows Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 (icesaber)Don't worry, there's nine: Radiak, Gavla, Kirop, Tanma, Solek, Photok, and Vican in winter, Vultraz and as-of-yet unknown Matoran (probably Mazeka) in the summer. i know those 8/9 are there, but vican isn't in netherlands (it's a shame..) and we're not completely sure of mazeka yet :-P what i actually meant, was to have 6 new matoran, red good matoran, blue good matoran, black good matoran, and the 3 colours for bad guys..ah well...just keep on hoping :-/ Quote
VBBN Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Okay, I am starting to wonder if Mazeeka will be a yellow matoran. It's the only color we haven't seen. Assuming he IS a matoran. Quote
Asuka Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 White Mahri visors, new style black TECHNIC treads, buzzsaws, orange Mahri tube, hard orange wheels, a bunch of white SYSTEM, and what looks like orange 13 x 24 Model Team wheels. Anyone know the price? Looks like $ 49.99 to me, but I Quote

I believe Greg has confirmed that Mazeka is a Matoran. We know that there will be two summer Matoran. Vultraz is one of them. None of the other revealed sets have Matoran. There is one set left that we haven't seen: Mazeka. Edit: Oh no. A PMing spree with GregFThe LEGO set designers want BLUE AND RED PINS TO BE USED! I'm not exactly surprised. The set designers have been making a lot of not-so-smart choices lately. Quote
Darkness Falls Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I just want to confirm this... It's been said that these vehicles replace the playsets this year. If so, are we still getting two other Titans and Takanuva? Quote

Visorak-kal Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 =VBBN~ @ Feb 19 2008, 06:55 PM]The LEGO set designers want BLUE AND RED PINS TO BE USED! Just to clarify: it has already been explained why those odd-color pins are used. (Though I wish they were color-coordinated to the set as much as the next guy.) They are those colors so that they can be more easily identified from the rest of the pieces in the set such as the black axles or other colors, etc. That is the official word on that from what I have heard. I do not think the set designers want weird colors. Remember that, as I saw in one Greg post, even the COLORS of sets are sometimes determined by the focus groups. So everything is done for a sales reason. VK Quote

I hate all the new sets that are coming out this summer... :-/ Quote
InnerRayg Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Why do we suddenly like these sets now? And am I the only one who really just doesn't like Silver and Red? It's like putting green and purple together. Good for small silver highlights, but any more than what we had on Jaller kills it. Quote
Shine Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Lewa, Pohatu, and Antroz have been confirmed as the riders of the large vehicles. >_< Quote

It's like putting green and purple together. Good for small silver highlights, but any more than what we had on Jaller kills it. Jaller? You mean Hali and lime green? Anyway, I don't mind it, as long as their isn't a ton of it, like the tahu nuva(03) Personally I would prefer orange or black or red. I still don't like these sets, btw. Lewa, Pohatu, and Antroz have been confirmed as the riders of the large vehicles. >_< Yes, we know. Crazy isn't it. :-X :-/ Quote
dviddy Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I do have to say, I think the mask on Lewa 2, the vehicular one, is more true to the original Miru Nuva. It's too bad they turned the spiked visor trans-blue... the spikes really helped that visual homage. Quote
hewkii9 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Bah. Prepare for a bit of a rant. Storyline. Good, sometimes. I admit-no, I say- that Greg can do some good stuff- I've really liked the serials, especially Federation of Fear- but I don't think the problem is his writing. I say the problem is the crap he's handed. Like these new vehicles. It's just been shown that Pohatu and his posse can fly, and now they need vehicles. Can't see any good way out of that hole. But we'll still blame Greg, not the bloody focus groups. "Oooh it shoots! Me no want build, me want shoot! Take to long to build! Stickman will kill! Shoot shoot shoot!" Or the crapulous Toa Terrain Crawler. A centipede that shoots things and has a hatch. Stupid concept. Back when the sets were consistently good, the story was good too, because Greg or the other writers could do logical things with sets that fit together. But sometimes that's not the case. Like Hydraxon. Apart from being a now-standard big guy, he was a good set. But the ridiculousness of his ressurection- oh he was turned into him by the ignika from dekar! that makes sense!- was Greg's fault. Just off-hand- actually ressurected, pulled up by Matoro under Makuta's influence, anything could be better. The storyline itself it flawed, screwed over by the sets, but when sets don't matter- like Greg's short story, where all characters were either three years old as sets or non-corporeal, the story improves. Too bad Greg's said that he can't bring non-set characters into Karda Nui. Silly name. But the sets suck. Quote
Clonie Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Mazeka is a Matoran, with a vehicle. He's the only 2008 set we haven't seen. Toa Ignika, Vultraz and Takanuva are the three main titans, as we usually get three main titans. You can tell by the numbers: 8697, 8698 and 8699, respectively. In sequence. And Mutran & Vican, Icarax and Mazeka are 8952, 8953 and 8954. On the subject of pins, I do think the long blue ones introduced this year are a bit much, but it's not something I feel strongly about.
