Onua -- Get rid of the pauldron. Doesn't work. Needs a hunch. No more red (where did TLC get that crazy idea?!). Original Mata claws or, at least Nuparu Inika claws. Needs proportionate arms and Vahki shins. Keep the black and dark bley. The Mistika jets fail on him.
But the pauldron's my favorite part...

Anyways, when I get him, I'm switching his arms with Gali's, giving him a hunch, giving him dark green eyes, and replacing all red with silver. I'm undecided right now on claws.

Well, honestly, I disagree with a lot of these suggestions. Firstly, I may have never said this before, but I think that the new blue, red, and green are far better than the originals. The old ones were too bright and kiddy for epic heroes, although they were great fir the time. Secondly, I stll don't see what's so monkey legs about the Inika proportions. Sure, they may not be realistic, but they look far better than the punyness of the original toa, IMO.

The main problem here is that I'm not actually trying to completely design a new set of toa. I'm just working on modifying the actual sets without straying extremely far from the designs. All the changes here would be good if you wanted to just make a new version of the old sets. What I'm trying to do is to make a better version of the new sets, so many of these changes won't really work.

But hey, if you have all these ideas, why don't you try to revamp the new toa Nuva? I'm sure you'd do just as good a job as me - probably better, since you''d be going for a full overhaul, not just modifications.

#1 reason: Not enough pieces of certain colors (i.e. tan) exist for me. To use tan and old brown for example would probably require many pieces and a very complicated design that I'm not quite sure I can pull off (though I am trying with what pieces I have).

#2 reason: I don't have enough pieces in the original colors. And as of now, I'm not allowed to buy LEGO sets, in store or online.

As for proportions, have you seen Kopaka's arms? They hang way too low. Too far past his knees, and that's not good at all. Have you checked out the Mata? Their arms don't hang past their knees. And while their chest to waist ratio wasn't quite perfect, it was certainly better than the mahrinikas'. And of course, both suffer from large feet, and large heads (not sure about the last two, need to check).

Wow, everyone here already has some pretty indepth plans for the Mistika :)

To be honest though, lots of the changes proposed are things I like about the sets, like Onua's shield and Gali's mask (I LOVE HER MASK!). I think it is kinda funny how one person can like one aspect and another hates it.

Beyond all that, lots of the changes seem like they are trying to make the sets more Nuva-like. The sets are so far from the Nuva though... It would probably more practical to scap the sets and build your own from scratch instead of modifying the sets. Just a thought ;)

Exactly. If one wants to rebuild the Toa... well, you can probably skip buying their Mistika incarnations altogether, for there's nothing in the sets really to accomplish that goal. The required parts are scattered all over the Lego sets of the past 6 or whatever years since they debuted, in System, Technic, Bionicle and Hades knows what other lines there've been.

This is truly a case of where buying a new version of a character HURTS the creation of revamping the old.

Well, that stinks. :sadnew:

True. Like I said though, I'm not trying to make the toa that should have been - I'm just trying to make the best of the actual sets by fixing the most glaring elements. It's far better than nothing, at least. :classic:

For some reason, the more I like the Mistika, the more I think I should hate them, *shrugs*. I agree with some people. You are all arguing about whether it's good or bad. Here's an idea, wait for the actual sets to come out. Who knows. Most, if not all of you, have not seen them up close, held them, tried them out, you don't know, pictures just never work for Bionicles.

On a side note, and I don't know why I'm saying it, but I'm gonna buy all the Mistika in groups, instead of buying them all at once, and wasting money. I will buy 2 or 3 at a time, most likely in the same order I bought the Phantoka in (yellow/orange and black, red and white, blue and green). Yeah, I guess I just had to get that out.

Exactly. The Mistika are really just an unimaginative mishmash of the Inika, Piraka, Mahri, and Phantoka. If only they had put as much creative genius into them as Pohatu Nuva...

I've never been a fan of the sets Lego designed, but if these Mistika are what they're using as a climax for the line are... yeesh.

Oh well. Bionicle started out personally for me as just parts packs and that's how they'll surely end.

(Though I admit, the large canistered bad guy Phantoka were decent action figures on their own).

First of all, pretty mcuch every set we get (and have been getting) are mostly just a mixmatch of pieces, and thus, they are pretty mcuh the same, I agree, but (somehow) have their own individuality. Pohatu Nuva? Seriously? He had, what, 3 new pieces, and some orange? Sheesh. I noticed someone else said that it was a "great way to end the year" or something (sarcastic on their part), but you know, there ARE a few more years left in the Bionicle line. Who knows what could happen? Maybe it'll be the same as the past years, just a "mishmash" of pieces, or maybe something a lot better. WE. WILL. NEVER. KNOW. UNITL. THEY. COME. OUT.

Gawd.

Heh, someone needs to hack bzpower and put this on the front page.

Seriously though, these sets aren't cars or videogames or something that needs to be 'test-driven.' We've seen these sets from every angle. We know their features. We are NOT going to discover some mind-blowingly amazing aspect of these sets upon purchase that is going to turn our opinions upside down.

You know what I find hilaious about the "New Nuva?" If Lego had simply named them Jaller, Hahli, Kongu, etc., would anyone know the difference? They easily could have been the next transformation of the Mahri.

thats probaly what they were

GregF says that he doesnt work with set designers and says theres no really point

WRONG

No, actually Greg himself said that he would be no good at set designing. This has come up when people have asked him what a toa of a non-set element would look like and once, he replied kinda like this -

But, since this is my idea, it would probably stink. :classic:

Yes, Greg admits that he is a story person, not a set person.

The Toa Mistika? Yes, certainly. The Toa Phantoka? Nope, I think they look a lot like their old characters. All three of them have decent masks - especially Pohatu - the weapons are mostly fitting, the colors, while partly different, are still fitting - and overall, I think they just scream "Toa Nuva 2.0" :classic:
