September 26, 200717 yr Wow I love all the figures and weapons etc in this set,the orcs are really cool and are the best part of the set and even have crude orcish weapons and helmets. The troll is...ok I guess, make it a mace or whatever and I guess it could serve as a attack troll. Even though I'm not to keen on big monster things which get in the way the dragon (fellbeast) with barding is a interesting idea. Well even though the theme is blantant LOTRs I like it very much, the set is brillant for the orc minifigs alone but I hope they become available with the Dwarfs in much smaller army builder type sets...otherwise I'm going to have a pitiful Orc army.
September 26, 200717 yr Is that the shadow of a new castle in the background? Looks like it. To be more accurate: another tower. I'd have prefered to see a Skellie Stronghold in 2008, but a Troll Tower.... Hmm.
September 26, 200717 yr Woah X-O That looks pretty cool. Love the new peices (eg swords) although it looks a bit mega blocky. Where did u find it??? There are probly more pics of 2008 comming soon because we've already got SW and Iny pics!
September 26, 200717 yr immediately what jumps out at me is the "good" dragon. i don't like that, personally. overall it's a good set though, i like the orcs (or whatever we are calling the giants) better than i had expected to. what i like most is the iconography of the sails/shields of the new faction. it's really cartoony, and the style really reminds me of one of my favorite comic book artists, skottie young. i love to see LEGO lines go cartoony (not anime, though). - BM Edited September 26, 200717 yr by Brick Miner
September 26, 200717 yr While I would have preferred a different bow, that is perfect otherwise. *wub* So many of the parts in that set I wanted anyway ; those small boats, the oars, masts, brown pieces, the bars... I love the new swords, the club and the small and big guys. (See below.) Lego have needed more traditional fantasy evil guys for years and this is just what I have wanted. I can accept the dragon but I don't need a second of that style and I have the green and red Viking one already! :-| The definition of Trolls/Goblins/Orcs varies so I wouldn't stress about that; call them what you want! :-P D&D for example largely follow Tolkien, but have trolls being very different; so different that Wikipedia has a whole entry on D&D trolls. Thanks for posting that picture Ikki! *wub*
September 26, 200717 yr Firstly, thanks for the find, Ikki :-) Secondly, I don't really like it. Since when, do humans use dragons? What are Lego swords coming to? Why are there so little oars? Why are there so little sails? And why do trolls use that freakin' shooting mechanism? Why do trolls use a ship anyway?.... Well at least Lego got up to making a fantasy theme :-)
September 26, 200717 yr Ok, how about this: The little green guys: Goblins or Orcs The big green guy: Troll Would that make it easier? :-) I am loving that troll and orc faction! *wub* These sets seem to be a bit more serious than this years castle sets, which had a lot of corny things in it (damsel in distress, ribcage armour etc) I hope that get we some "darker" sets if you get what I mean. The new swords on second viewing are too big, but thats not a huge problem, they look rough and poorly made, like an orc's sword should be. Up and Atom! :-)
September 26, 200717 yr Since when, do humans use dragons? It's common in fantasy books; Magician, Dragonlance and the Pern series I can name doing zero research.
September 26, 200717 yr It's common in fantasy books; Magician, Dragonlance and the Pern series I can name doing zero research. ______ I am fine with humans using dragons in this theme so long as they aren't in a lot of sets and don't have the same colour scheme as the skellie's dragon. This one is interesting, I never liked these dragons, but I'm trying to tell if any of the armour is removable. Since these pics lately have all been from the catalog, can we expect to be able to see it soon? Up and Atom! :-)
September 26, 200717 yr You know I don't have a problem with Lego producing different enemies each year for the knights, to me that just seems like a perfectly natural thing to do. I believe that previous castle lines have suffered because of a lack of diversity in the line, having Knights, Skellies, Wizards, Dwarfs, Orc's and Trolls gives kids a lot more ideas and encourages imagination.
September 26, 200717 yr Grear find Ikki! Has anyone else noticed the new cage door? The swords look nice up close, and although it appears only it's arms can move, the troll ogre thing doesn't look that bad. I like the drums! :-D Nice catapult, 2 cages, nice overall ship design, with the fence at the back, I see they're using the small oars, and the 2 small attack boat are indeed a great touch! :-D :-D And now we can finally see the troll emblem, an elongated sort of stretched out skull! :-P X-D Awesome! EDIT: Oh, and new dragon head is nice, I see the humans have nicked off with a dragon! I wonder if there'll be a storyline page on the site... Oh, and what's that silver thing at the bottom of the rear mast? Wait... I think it's the ogre's club... great for whacking! X-D Edited September 26, 200717 yr by iamded
September 26, 200717 yr This one is interesting, I never liked these dragons, but I'm trying to tell if any of the armour is removable. I think from the pics that the head gear
September 26, 200717 yr You pulled a *yoda*! X-D and for once it wasn't me :-P So, in the end, the size of those chaps is pretty variform throughout all fairytales and legends.Even Trolls
September 26, 200717 yr True mate !! Thats what TLC said and I think they are sio right to go this epic !!I really don't mind at all having numerous factions but I think there will always be the need to have a combination of the classic good vs evil ;-) Last year we had crownies vs skellies, january focuses mainly on trollies, goblies, orcies vs dwarvies !! For the sake of faction parallelism, TLC should continue like that *y* *y* *yoda* Now all we need is some sort of elves to make this complete, making the whole line more epic is a masterstroke by Lego. Castle at the moment sure seems to be getting the best of the lego creators minds thats for sure, i just hope they don't go into a slump.
September 26, 200717 yr The definition of Trolls/Goblins/Orcs varies so I wouldn't stress about that; call them what you want! :-P So I
September 26, 200717 yr X-D I call the big one bitie :-P (such quote only for true Simpsons fans :-P ) X-D Yeay seems I'm loosing that priviledge hehe !! That club is growing, maybe I should start asking for an entry fee :-P *yoda* ________ The episode " Marge versus the Monorail", in which Homer points out "Bitey" living with its children in the monorail. :-P You aren't the only simpsons fan here *yoda* ! :-D While I agree that it is a masterstroke of TLC to make this line more epic, and introducing more factions, I would still prefer that the old factions remain in newer sets. It would show that they are still participating in tthe war, but to avoid remaking the same things all over, the older factions would be pushed away from the spotlight, and become secondary and background characters. This was why I was so pleased to see a knight in this set, making a presence, but not dominating the screen. Up and Atom! :-)
September 26, 200717 yr I like the Minifigs, dragon and the big troll thingy, but thats it. The ship just looks like a lame remake of the Viking ship
September 26, 200717 yr If I may ad my little pebble in the pond : Orcs were entirely created by Tolkien in the Lord of the Rings and later on in all of his history of Middle Earth (which explains why he called them Goblins in "The Hobbit"). Whereas Trolls and Goblins are from common folklore out of different fairy tales and mythologies of old (mainly the scandinavian one). But Tolkien's story got so much popular that Orcs became a common creature in heroic fantasy. That's why we find them in lots and lots of different fantasy universe. But I love the way TLC is going! and those little green men do look mean, whatever we decide to call them. And Dwarves! I've always loved Fantasy Dwarves and their hot temper and all *wub* !
September 26, 200717 yr I'm a bit depressed... thanks for the pic all the same ;-) I don't like fantasy so maybe I'm being a little harsh, but my first impression is 'I can't believe it took Lego 5 years to copy MegaBlocks.' It just shows who the dominant retail brand really is... certainly in the states where mass market retail space is so important. ...I'm sure there will be positives... ;-) X-D God Bless, Nathan
September 26, 200717 yr Norro, may I ask why you think Lego seems to be copying Megablocks? Anyway, I love the ship, I know we are all talking about the figs at the moment, but the ship really interests me. I understand Andy how you would think it is just a remake of a Viking Ship, but in my opinion I think the rough, wooden viking likeness really suits the troll faction. Unlike the clean shiny crownies, or dark and evil skellies, these trolls to me a grubby, dirty and rough! >:-) Up and Atom! :-)
September 26, 200717 yr Nthan is right it does look a bit mega blocky but it still has the lego.y touch to it.
