October 9, 20159 yr Author Yeah, i really want to, but damn... The servo in particular is a hard pill to swallow, it costs the same as 250-300 part sets, but replicating its function with an M-motor is not easy, nor good for the electronics. I will have some extra budget for lego purchases soon, but i might hold off until we know what the "ultimate IP supercar" set ends up being, if it ends up being as ultimate as rumoured, itll be a budget buster, but also a must-have :) Yeah the servos important, and probably a V2 IR receiver (for 2 L motors) but they are getting harder to find. I'm looking forward to seeing what that supercar is too. okay, thanks. I will try to post images of my attempt. Please do, the chassis could always be better.
October 9, 20159 yr a V2 IR receiver (for 2 L motors) but they are getting harder to find. This might be me being naive, but i kind of expected the v2 to have totally replaced the v1, or will i get a v1 if i order a new one from lego themselves? For smaller MOCs getting stuck with a single L wouldnt be totally bad, but if i ever want to motorize something bigger (say my modded 42039), the ability to drive two Ls would be VERY important

I got caught out with this when I started buying PFs. I got the V2 unit used from bricklink for a decent price. I'm not sure how much they are now though.

The V2 on Bricklink is more expensive then a V1 from lego, but still reasonable.

October 14, 20159 yr No worries, and thanks for the chat. Sure! Just put in an order with Lego for a bunch of PF stuff (double points, best deal i could find on these parts), i did go for the V1 receiver now, which should suffice for smaller MOC/MODs, but ill keep my eye on a v2 on bricklink for when i want to go bigger

Enjoy that RC goodness :)
October 15, 20159 yr Nice one! Enjoy that RC goodness :) Thanks, will do! Currently contemplating whether ill dive right into it once i get it, or whether ill wrap it and stick it under the christmas tree, and whether motorizing 42022 will be my first project, or if i should buy 42037 as a testbed (or if we're talking christmas, perhaps that new go-kart)

I imagine the hotrod would be very difficult to motorise, I don't think there's enough room. The offroader is more doable. 42029 and 42039 would be easier.

The offroader is more doable. 42029 and 42039 would be easier. The hotrod has a fair bit of space between the lower chassis bars, once you rip out the steering/drive axles, the receiver shouldnt be too hard, but the battery box.. might require rebuilding the entire trunk area, and it would leave the fake V6 disconnected (and i'd have to source a diff, since the original model doesnt have one, ridiculous) Some people have dont it : but not with stock lego batteries.I do have 42039, but i think itll be too heavy to work nicely with a single L motor, especially since im modding mine, and adding more weight in terms of panels/liftarms already. Part of me wants that LiPo pack, but €60... paying €75 for the kit ive got coming now was hard enough to put myself past, and that was with a €8 battery box :P

If you manage to motorise it with all PFs I'd love to see it. That hotrod really moves in that video. Your right about the 42039, it's very slow motorised with only 1 motor.

Your right about the 42039, it's very slow motorised with only 1 motor. Keep in mind the hotrod has scotch tape around the back wheels to drift better in that vid, but yeah, i was impressed seeing what an M motor can do. I'll be really impressed if you fit it all in nicely, not that I don't think you can, I just haven't seen it done yet I think it is partially due to the fact that the hotrod isnt a big or popular set. I got it for my birthday, else i wouldnt even have it i think. Im not to worried about the motor/servo, as the underside has a bit 3-wide gap between the chassis bars which should fit a motor and servo easily, and that would put them nicely in line to drive their respective functions. Im hoping the standard battery box will fit on the rear of the car, but looking at some pics, it might be two studs too wide. If i get it working i'll be sure to post it!

October 17, 20159 yr I can't wait to see it, I love that set I got my PF stuff in the mail yesterday, so i tore into the car yesterday, so far ive managed to integrated the drive motor (which is rather easy), and made space for the battery box on the rear deck. The servo is causing me massive headaches though, im trying to keep the fake engine in place (although hooking it up to the drive motor isnt gonna fly), but then the servo wont fit in anywhere lengthwise, so my next step will be removing the fake engine and working the servo in, and then seeing what i can do in terms of hood/decoration at the front, i hope to at least retain the radiator/headlights/exhaust, and ive got a bunch of extra medium blue panels to work with in the parts bin.
October 18, 20159 yr Author Very cool white car!! I see such minifigure 1st time. From which set? Very nice and very fast! Lovely work! Thanks! I'm not sure which set the minifigure came from, I've had it for over 20 years.
October 19, 20159 yr Author As other said, very nice filling and covering! Thanks Milan. I've been watching your TC8 thread, your mobile crane is looking awesome! Edited October 19, 20159 yr by Chade
October 19, 20159 yr Hey this looks pretty awesome, nice work! Everything is packed so compact and neat and bodywork is clean and beautiful Very well done, my friend, very well

October 20, 20159 yr Thanks MacKaiwer. I saw on another thread how many sets you own, my wife would kill me if I had that many! And there will be more, I'm pretty sure Also stay tuned I might have new MOC in near future

October 21, 20159 yr I like this car very much, I cant build it because I miss some parts, but I'll try to build something similar Very good job
