Veynom Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Here is my entry for the 2015 SHIPtember contest: a deep space ship, the Mantrisse-class Exploration Ship. Length: 121 studs (97 cm) Width: 78 studs(62 cm) Coulours: green, light grey (old & bluish), metal (the 12V rails) This is my 4th SHIP (ship longer than 100 studs) and 2nd one this year. Mantrisse-class Exploration Ship in orbit of new planets by Veynom, on Flickr I started this SHIP quite late in the month, on the 23rd exactly, mainly because until the 21st I was too busy with the preparation of BrickMania Seneffe. Speaking of BMS, I still have several MOCs/MODs to take picture of. Mantrisse-class Long Range Exploration Ship by Veynom, on Flickr Inspiration came with a couple of meta-bricks I received during BrickMania Seneffe and that I finally did not use. :-p The bulk of the Mantrisse body is composed of grey train rails from the 80's, including some of these rails used to conduct electricity. I used the latter to give a different color pattern and texture. In the end, everything got relatively easily built and the ring just fits perfectly. Mantrisse Eploration Ship by Veynom, on Flickr My inspiration sources are based on European graphical novels from Leo and his Aldébaran universe along with his Mantrisse but also Jacobs and his Enigma of the Atlantide. Mantrisse Eploration Ship by Veynom, on Flickr Close-up on the head of the Mantrisse: Mantrisse Head by Veynom, on Flickr I waned and needed to change the general "ship mast" aspect of the Mantrisse. The inclination angle of the 4 antennas makes me now think to a carnivorous flower or some kind of alien head. Mantrisse Head by Veynom, on Flickr The 4 antennas are only attached through a single stud. It is stable when the ship is standing vertically on a table but it will fall down when moved horizontally. The latte minor inconvenient would not exist in space where there is no gravity. ManInATopHat Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Very unique ship. Not exactly my type of thing, but the details looks seriously good. How stable is this thing? Its looks quite precarious! Quote
Veynom Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Very unique ship. Not exactly my type of thing, but the details looks seriously good. How stable is this thing? Its looks quite precarious! Thank you. It is actually quite stable when displayed vertically. The ring is stronger than what it looks like. The weak points are the 4 head antennas that are attached through a single stud each, on a dish. Because of that, it can't be swooshed. Without the antenna, it can. :) This is great! Absolutely terrific! Love the design! Thank you all for the very nice comments. Quote
Murrig Icehammer Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 That's a beautiful and very unique design! I wonder, how big is this ship, if build in real life? (it looks pretty big but i don't see any visual reference point to estimate how big it is) Quote
Sci-FiFleetAdmiral Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) Nice concept, and kudos for using those old train rails! Edited October 28, 2015 by Sci-FiFleetAdmiral Quote

(it looks pretty big but i don't see any visual reference point to estimate how big it is) Thank you. How big? Very big. This is clearly microscale and one should imagine that the ring hosts the life-support area. So in the end, this is no big ship but maybe a huge ship, if ever built. ;) Nice concept, and kudos for using those old train rails! Thank you ;) Quote
Hereticae Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Now that's pretty inventive, has a nice retro sci-fi aesthetic to it. Quote
