  1. 1. Which one is the best LEGO Ideas set released so far?

I think that would be difficult to enforce, as well as possibly generating resentment among those creators of genuinely good licensed projects that still have trouble attracting votes as it is.

I think it would be better for those of us who want original, non-licensed sets to campaign for them that much more vigorously. As long as a few good (and feasible!) non-licensed projects do make it into review batches from time to time, we should continue to get a steady stream of them as sets.

As someone who likes both licensed and original projects and sets, I personally intend to submit both kinds, but I did decide a while back that my first submission (when I finally get to it) would be an original idea.

I love natural beauty. I think the birds are a set of exquisite delicacy of real life. It connects LEGO building with something that people recognize as "existent", all over the world. It is a set "for the masses" or, to be exact, "for the adult masses".

Fictitious ships and characters, are known mostly to fans. Spacecrafts like Hayabusa, although real, are "out of this world". TV shows are known only to countries they broadcast. Sets like the birds, I believe are truly global and they can appeal to practically everyone.

I love the Doctor Who set, and would choose that, but I'm sticking with the Exo-Suit. This is mostly because I appreciate that it is based on a Classic LEGO theme, and brings something new to it. That's the kind of thing I'd like to see more of from LEGO in general, and it's something that I think will lead to a higher approval rate from LEGO if it can get the votes.

My Top 3 are:

  1. The Big Bang Theory
The figs and the details of the appartment are so accurate, it's really like TBBT converted into Lego.
  2. Exo Suit
I love the green (neo) classic astronauts and the Space Turtle. The suit is freaking cool, but for my taste it has to many greebles which don't look like having a fuction.
  3. Back to the Future DeLorean
The figs and the printed parts are just great, but I'll have to find some hours to improve the DeLorean design. Ecto-1 looks much better, but I'm not such a big fan of the Ghostbusters.

I voted Ecto-1. When I first saw that I thought it was perfect and it's still a great set, with awesome minifigures, and a good price. Being a fan since I was a kid, this was an immediate purchase for me. I even bought a second one.

Runners up would be Back to the Future, as that was my first Ideas/Cusoo set and the first set my wife (girlfriend back then) and I built together; and I would also give credit to Doctor Who, as that was another set on my IPs wishlist.

I agree. I bought 5 Exo-suits. I would like to see a Classic Space revival. Several of Benny's SPACESHIP too!

I also have 1x Birds, which would make good ornaments, and 1x Ecto1, which had good wheels for a potential Futuron monorail train, reviving monorail for the Space theme.

I'm hoping a Technic BB-8 droid might make a good Ideas set, and again add something to an existing theme. It would help the Technic theme to branch out into different types of model, beyond the usual vehicles. It would have similar functionality and price point to Volvo Loader 42030 i.e. 4 motorized functions and several minor functions. For BB-8 the motorized functions will be drive, steering and hopefully head control, and minor functions will be the deployable tools.

Being a huge fan, I must say the Big Bang theory set. I love the show and the level of depth that went into the set and I really want to get the set, build it and then complete the whole apartment. Maybe the whole building.

I just put Birds together last night. It's a lovely set. This poll's question remains a tough one.

I think if you want that set and don't have it already, you probably should pick it up quickly, as I don't think it'll be available much longer.

My 2 favorites have to be the Ecto-1 (Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies, the model is so well designed and as a bonus the guy who designed it is a member of my LUG) and the Exo-Suit (Classic Space is awesome and its totally different to anything TLG have done before plus its full of neat parts, not to mention the green Classic Space guys and for the first time ever, green airtanks)

The Exo-suit set is my favorite followed very closely by the Doctor Who set. None of the others have really appealed to me, except for maybe the Ghostbusters and Back to the Future sets which I didn't buy.

Wall-E is the best for me followed by Ghostbusters and the Mech Suit. It was just such a great build. Also, I FINALLY beat the Ideas Maze set today, both of the default mazes(the only 2 with instructions). Took me forever but I'm glad to have finally did it. The main issue I have is the ball gets stuck so easily and there are points where I want to get the ball moved but the mechanism makes it hard to.

I think the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 is the best designed, most solid build. And the best overall ret as a product. It really has no flaws or downsides, a number of really innovative techniques, and a solid self contained vehicle and figures. It tells its story well.

The ExoSuit, DeLorean and Wall-E all suffer from a few frail points or design compromises. Most of the others just feel lacking in some other way. Yeah the Birds set is great art, but isn't particularly fun. And yeah I am biased against Dr. Who and BBT. I tend not to like that sort of lose or open form play set. I prefer a nice complete fully framed in subject such as a vehicle.

The Ghostbusters Ecto-1 lacks the minifigure quality of later Ghostbusters sets (no arm printing). That's the only real flaw. Aside from that, I suppose it depends on preferences. I'm a fan of the Ghostbusters, but not a huge fan, so that impacts how I see the set.
