ArchieNov Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Hello, I've just recently got back into buying Lego again after 20+ years, and it was the Star Wars theme that pulled me back. Needless to say, I am a true noob when it comes to making mods (and MOCs are out of the question). Anyway, I got myself the ISD 75055 and while I really love it, it bothered me that the top portion was not solidly attached onto anything and could slide around freely (especially when swooshing). I tried searching for a solution online, but couldn't find any (maybe because it was already so obvious and therefore no one felt the need to be publish one). So with the best of my own extremely meager abilities, here's the solution I came up with (it's basically just 2 parts placed on the surface): With those 2 parts in place, I can now easily attach the top portion to the main ISD body and keep it from sliding around. Another benefit is that having the top part attach in this manner keeps the 2 halves of the main body perfectly aligned with the center, satisfying my OCD. That's all! Again, I realize that this is a super simple mod and maybe it's not even worthy of having a topic. But I guess I wanted to share it anyway since a couple of the reviews I watched/read on the 75055 ISD mentioned this issue. Please do not be too harsh on me if this mod seems like a simple no-brainer... Quote
Blitzismydog Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 In my opinion, simple solutions are the best. Quote
PaulPrime Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I like simple, unexpensive solutions that don't requiere thousands of unavailable pieces. Most of my MODs are pretty simple as well, and if I ever own that ship your MOD will be the first to be implemented. Good job. Quote
Raskolnikov Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I have noticed that the central "seam" of the ship tends to get wider towards the back, as the back halves sag a little bit. So it's a good idea fo sho. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I think a before and after picture(s) would be helpful for those of us that do not have this set. (Thank you in advance.) Quote
MartinCliffe Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 It's just the two 1x2 jumpers. I've just tried it, works brilliantly. Thanks for sharing such a simple but effective idea! Quote
ArchieNov Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 Thank you everyone for your kind words. You guys seem to be a great community! I think a before and after picture(s) would be helpful for those of us that do not have this set. (Thank you in advance.) Sorry, I didn't think of that. But I guess I should've encircled the 2 parts I added for more clarity. It's just the two 1x2 jumpers. I've just tried it, works brilliantly. Thanks for sharing such a simple but effective idea! Thanks for explaining the 2 parts I added. I'm really glad that some people were able to benefit from this simple mod. Quote
Only Sinner Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 This is a good little MOD, very helpful. Thanks! Quote
Thorg23 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) What I did with mine was simply not lock together the two clip pieces on the underside of the top portion with their partner on the other side. If you fold the entire top section together so that the clips are touching the bars, but not attached to them, the top section will sit in the slot in the hull perfectly without moving at all, and the middle stays perfectly straight along the center line. I actually came upon the idea purely by accident, as I forgot to connect the clips on the underside and finished the model, then wondered what people were talking about when all the reviews said the top section was loose and moved around too much. I went back and checked, noticed my mistake, but decided to leave it alone since it seemed to fit better as it was. Your solution is prefereable if you want to do some "take evasive action" style swooshing though, as the top section in my setup still isn't connected to the bottom and would still fall off if you flipped the ISD upside down. ArchieNov Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Here is another simple mod for those that find the thrusters on the 75055 too small. I basically used the same configuration as those found on the UCS Slave 1. Before: After: And while not a mod, I attached my 75011 Tantive IV to my ISD. I know it's not exactly in scale, but I wanted to have something to somewhat emphasize the size of the ISD. If someone can MOC a Tantive IV that's better scaled with the ISD, maybe you can share it with me? :) Quote
FTG Prime Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Those engines look great Archie ! The Tantive IV is a great addition too !! Quote
Dangerous Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 I decided to upgrade the cannon's on mine to stud-shoot variant as used on the First Order Star Destroyer 2017 Before: After: I just realised after taking the photos how dusty she's gotten.... I have a small child and she loves to try and get at this or my Y-Wing any opportunity she gets! So it's a high shelf for safety. Quote
