Animation wise it looks as dull as Hero Fuctory. Really the Nexo Knights power up sequence was long. As was the fighting sequence. And everything. Even though it was a short webisode it felt very long. :sceptic:

Although, I should probably state upfront that in general I dislike most cartoons, as well as the CGI cartoon medium in general.

Hero Factory's shooter battles sucked, but it's been a while since I last saw HF, I thought the H2H combat was actually pretty ok.

What are the exceptions?

I think it's the stark geometrical aesthetic that is causing me to see parallels. Like, the houses are very reminiscent of the few HF episodes I watched (clips of). This is really just a limitation of CGI as a medium for cheap cartoons, though... it's just more obvious here than in the clips of Ninjago I watched. (I actually saw probably a few whole episodes of that. )

Also the bland dialogue and funless action really did not help it. The dynamic between blue and silver (one of them's Clay) was pretty much the only thing it had going for it. And the animation of the figures themselves was not bad either. Certainly not as bad as their austere setting.

What are the exceptions?

Some of the Cartoons I grew up with, such as Rugrats, Kim Possible, and Hey Arnold, but I've always tended towards less "silly" cartoons. I enjoyed SpongeBob in small doses when it originally aired. I have also enjoyed Anime such as Cowboy Bebop, Baccano, and Spice and Wolf, among others.

Currently I enjoy Steven Universe and Gravity Falls, and also enjoyed Over the Garden Wall and the Avatar series.

Eh, you got your reasons, not gonna argue.

Ninjago (in my opinion) isn't just the best of the "Lego" shows, but also the best 3D animation show on Cartoon Naetork.

Aside from "Rebels" and "Clone Wars" I don't actually know any other 3d shows on CN. So, you could be right!

I'm not really a fan of 3d animations for the most part. I don't even like it in serious programs like the "Ghost in the Shell" films, since I find it offputting, but in this clip, the scenery is particularly stark.

I find it astounding that M2Films went from the final episodes of Chima (which had incredibly high quality and detailed animation, even more so than recent episodes of Ninjago) to this overwhelmingly simplistic stuff. I can only guess they had a significantly smaller budget than with Chima to explain the huge loss of quality here.

Storywise it should be interesting to see what the actual episodes are like. As with Chima, it appears that someone else is writing the mini-movies while John Derevlany (who also wrote all of Chima) is writing the episodes. The Chima mini-movies were certainly a mixed bag as while some shed more light onto the minor characters and explained some of the shows plot holes, most either were completely pointless or conflicted with the show's canon.

Though all these Nexo powers are starting to make all of Laval's "For Chima!"s sound significantly less cheesy.

When I said it has better animation I thought about graphics quality. But forget that, I watched the video in low quality settings. It actually is worse than Ninjago and Chima.

Well that's sad.

Okay, that one was WAY better than the first one! See, this is one of the things I hope for from the series—good character-driven humor. If the full series can deliver more of that, it may make a devoted fan out of me!

Yup, if Nexo Knights can top Ninjago on character development (Ninjago only has it cause of them showing small bits of it every episode), then they're set for a good comedy based series.

They're not even trying to top Ninjago's or even Chima's combat, so this is one area they might win.

I wouldn't call the humor "good" at all. The jokes seemed pretty cheap to me, about as much as I was expecting from a kids show. Can't believe that Lance's weapon is just a cheap knock-off lightsaber, instead of a hard-light lance or something similar.

I thought it was a lance/spear?

It is, but seeing as everything its seemingly light-based blade touches goes "poof" it's a lightsaber.

Lightsabers don't really "poof" things. I think the lava monsters just "poof" when they sustain a certain amount of damage—it doesn't have anything to do with what sort of weapon they were hit with, and Lance's weapon might have a very different effect if he used it against a human combatant or some non-living object.
