And the X-wing isnt exactly white either. It might have been rolling of the assembly line, but all that dirt etc... Just compare the lit parts of the X-wing to the snow below.

On the RGB scale they are BOTH closer to pure white than they are to Lego light gray, that is for sure. I will just post this once again, this is from Star Wars.com and a direct screengrab from the movie:

Compared with this:

I'll leave you to decide whether I'm color blind or not.

I'm halfway through building a White Millennium Falcon in LDD at the moment, I'll post renders when I'm done, but so far it looks a million times more screen correct..

If this is not White but Light Grey, yes I am color blind.

Agreed, RGB wise white is closer, but im convinced that a white lego MF would end up looking ridiculous, It is supposed to be an old freighter converted to a smugler ship and patched up time and time again, not a brand spanking new ship with a fresh coat of paint

I agree. LBG might not be the perfect colour for the Falcon but it looks good and still better than white.

Very light bluish gray would be even better for some ships (Star Destroyer!!!) but unfortunately this colour very rare. :sceptic:

I actually am colour blind, like the other 12% or so of the general male population. When did the colour of the MF become a 2015 rumour? Just curious...

If you built it white, then you would lose all detail unless you put a wash on it and I doubt any of us want to coat our legos in dirty paintbrush alcohol.

White Falcons do not look right.

Hasbro's after I gave it a wash:IMAG0205_zpspvr8kngi.jpg

Lego has to use grey and I found the use of tan bricks very refreshing. It captures the screen model perfectly.

The AT-AT is even a better example:

It takes a lot of wash to make it right.

Yeah, I have a whole WWII crossover world in 1:18 scale buried in boxes in my garage. Funny thing is, the Thirteenthfloor.com now has a whole series of photos doing the same thing.

Which is exactly the same case for the X-Wing but it works, because of studs, bricklines, and use of careful second colors. It's not yet finished, and I plan on finishing this comparison, but here's why it would work and would look more like the Falcon:

Anyway, as someone else pointed out, this subject is probably digressing and I won't post on it anymore in here.. (I'll instead start a new thread when my build is done :) )

The Millennium Falcon? White?

I rarely see it portrayed as being white. It's grey, no matter how light.

Then there's also the fact that it's meant to be a rugged looking ship. That "piece of junk", as they call it, can't be white. That'd be way too clean looking.

looks more like MF with albinism.

But yea I would be interested to see the finished product in the end. Who knows, I might end up loving it :sweet:

PS: Sry about the angry post above, didn't read that you were starting a new thread

I built recently a MF model kit and the main color was pale grey:

The gey panels are painted with the same light grey that Lego uses.

Just down the Falcon, you can see a X-Wing's wing painted in white.

This project sprung out of a discussion in the 2015 Rumor and Picture thread about whether the Falcon is color correct, and whether a white Falcon would actually look better or not. I will let you be the judge of that.

While I do not own the parts to actually build this (and I'm not keen on bricklinking the whole thing..) I thought I could easily make a proof of concept by building it in LDD (which was a wonderful learning experience) and BlueRender.

Here is the result:

And here is a comparison with the original model:

Ultimately, the main problem I saw was that some pieces are simply not available in light grey (only in dark grey) and some pieces are not available in white. I did not keep an inventory of these, but the halos on the hull, some bits on the landing ramp, hinged plates on the top flaps, etc. come to mind.

Regardless, I still stand by my claim that this is a better representation of the Millennium Falcon, and looks awesomely good..

I also prefer the grey one. White pieces with a dirty looking color scheme is impossible, so grey is the easiest (and best looking) solution.

I like it! It looks quite nice and realistic, maybe just a little too white for "movie accurate", but still nice.

My only concern would to keep the white, white and not yellow over time.

Looking forward to seeing your "brick built" version.

I can see the appeal, but in the end the white is far too clean for the MF

Appiah4, maybe you could add a poll to the topic to see what everyone prefers?

I've tried, but I can't seem to add a poll via editing, and I didn't think of doing that while posting :( Maybe a mod can help..

Looking at Docking Bay 327 scenes with white stormies for reference, i think one can conclude that the MF never was white, as the weathering over the even, uniform, grey base color is quite apparent in the scenes:

I see, let's hope a mod helps out

On the color topic, can you easily recolor the thing in LDD? if so im kinda wondering how a light tan/sand would look

Yeah, hoping a mod helps as well.

It's actually possible to recolor the thing by mass selecting all white/grey/dark grey bricks and coloring them, but the problem would be that many of the bits used in the hull plating are not available in tan or sand, thus unavailable in LDD.
