Thanks for the comment and the vote on Lego Ideas. I did see a castle like modular building on Ebay but it was for the instructions only and a Brkicklink XML file to help you buy all the parts. I think it was an opera house or museum or something but it did look like a castle building and I believe it worked with the modular building standard. I saw it when I was looking at images after I searched for Lego Modular Castles. I was trying to see what else was out there.

That is just AWESOME. Suddenly I want to build a castle..

Glad to hear that this inspired you. I do to. I am wanting to build a tall tower out of the modules this Sunday.

I am VERY new to Eurobrcks I did not see how to Quote like you did. I tried but don't think it worked. Can you please tell me?

^ Hit the quote button on a comment. You'll notice that you can actually alter what's in the quote. Remove parts of the post that you don't want to respond to and you should be set.

People tend to do that here because it keeps the boards cleaner looking and easier to read. Imagine if five or six people quoted your post without removing the pictures..... :look::wink:

Hope that helps.

The modular castle idea in general is a great one, and something I think LEGO should look into. There are many examples of how to make it work, and I'm sure LEGO'd designers can come up with more great ideas. I've supported the above idea on LEGO Ideas already, but it's nice to see it here.

Speaking of 'modular' ideas, I'd love something comparable to the Expert Modular builds like the new Brick Bank and Detective's Office, made in the medieval Castle theme. It's been suggested many times, but I'll say it again, a remake of the Medieval Market Village in this style would be most welcome.

Absolutely.

There is a Castle market square on Ideas that has reached 10,000 votes. Here's hoping.

This could be so awesome. Wizard's Tower, Merchant Shops, Docks, Taverns, Barracks, Mills, Great Hall, Domestic houses.

Here is a suggestion for the next castle set Lego could build. It is a modular castle system.

Wow, awesome system. And the two castles you have build from it is looking great.

Not at all a bad idea !

BrickJagger already covered it. The entire quote is displayed in the reply box, I just edited some text between the (quote)(/quote) tags. :classic:

Your project convinced me to finally register for Lego ideas and vote, best of luck with it! I'll be building my own version eventually, but would love to actually buy this too.

What a shame that that one didn't get turned into a set. I think that the idea was feasible as long as you took out the brick-built base.

I would just be happy if Lego made a Castle themed Creator's set instead of just a regular house. It would be great to have a 3 in 1 set that could be a medieval house, shop/blacksmith forge, and a tower. Or something along those lines.

That could be nice, but those are usually very simplistic. I'd much prefer Creator Expert.

So I'll put my wishes in here as well. In order of most to least wanted:

- To make it as different as possible from the "knight" part of the Nexo Knights, Id like to see a Middle Eastern or Far Eastern (based more on China than Japan) theme. But I guess we wont see a FE theme while Ninjago is around, and the failure of Prince of Persia might have killed off hope for a ME theme.

- A Dark Age theme would also be great. Vikings could be nice, but I was rather disappointed by the Vikings of a decade ago. If we see a Viking revival, I would hope for less technic in the sets.

- An antiquity/mythology theme would be a breath of fresh air, just not sure how compatible it would be with Castle.

- Not that thrilled with the idea of a Forestman theme, though it could be well done. Just doesnt tickle my fancy. Would prefer Wolfpack-style bandits far more. A lot would depend on who the adversaries are.

- Even less thrilled about an (minifigure) Elves theme, but the parts could be good. Probably not on the table as long as minidoll Elves are out there. I wonder how minifigure Castle elves would be different.

Aaand thats my 1000th post. Seemed fittng it should be in the Historic Forum. I shall henceforth be Count von Ardelon!

Keep in mind that, come 2016, it will be six years since PoP first hit the shelves. With no exciting competition in their brand, Lego might be willing to give Middle-Eastern Castle a shot.

Congratulations!

A more historic focussed Asia theme would be awesome, especially when it's tied to feudal japan or chinese legends, similar like the Vikings theme. (just without too much reliance to technic parts) Maybe some good dragons and other things, it'd be a excellent opportunity to give some additional understanding of eastern myths. (Maybe that's what ninjago is about, i don't know i have no idea about ninjago, lol.)

As much as i'd like to see it, i can't imagine they do a castle-elves theme or any other castle theme in the forseeable future as long LEGO still has the rights for Tolkien movies.

I'd 100% support a dark ages theme, maybe some mythology themed, like King arthur, celtic (stonehenge?) or another Vikings line would be nice too.

They could also revive the Fantasy theme (that would be my personal fav.).

A antiquity-mythology theme (hercules/odyssey/+much much more) would be truely great imo, but i don't see LEGO doing it. It's just not hip enough among the kids at the moment imo.

Another possibility would be to get another license, like D&D or some other fantasy setting (which would be really nice on on hand but also pretty bad because it means expensive sets again.), but again it depends on what the kid want, not what AFOLs would love to see....

Realisticly, i think they will continue doing Hobbit/LotR sets for some more years (idk how long their contract runs), then there will be one or two years no castle themed stuff at all. (Depending on how well Nexo Knights is received by the kids)

Sorry for the bad english today.

^ I hope you mean Lotr and Hobbit Dimensions Packs. Lego hasn't made a regular Hobbit set in two years and an Lotr one is three, meaning that the theme is done.

Come to think of it, Lotr might actually be the longest "Zombie Theme" ever. I define a "Zombie Theme" as a theme that's dead but due to technicalities/speculation/disbelief/petitions is considered to still be active by some. Most themes are only in a zombie state for a short period of time and are officially ended when Lego says so, but for some reason Lotr continues to stick around.

But this isn't the Lotr thread, now is it?

Nexo Knights doesn't have to be the only Castle theme going forward. While it is clearly Castle ( :poke: ), it certainly doesn't cover all aspects of medieval life. As mentioned by many, things like a village (Which we never really got from Castle anyway for the last thirty years except for 2011), regular horses, and normal Castles are sorely missed.

Lego could make a basic, Castle 2013 style theme that would be able to cover those things with maybe four or five sets a year, while NK churns out about forty a year. Conversely, I can see exactly why they wouldn't do that. The last line sold rather poorly, and I'd assume that that was why NK was given a green light even though the idea had been floating around since FE.

Some newer users here might not have been here for this, but there was just as much hate from the Historic themes fans for Castle 2013 then as there is for NK now.

"It's too childish!", they said.

"It's j.uniorzed!", they said.

"More Lion Knights?", they complained.

Then Nexo Knights come out and those exact comments were posted again. This time though, Lego took a different approach. They followed the Ninjago guideline on how to make a successful theme, and it looks like NK is gearing up to be just that. Instead of a boring rehash that barely anyone here had use for, they took the "Creative" route that was essentially kickstarted by the Lego movie.

So, after that rant, Lego could make a j.uniorized Castle them aimed at younger kids to run alongside NK, but don't be surprised if they don't. :classic:

Yeah, it's a lot of missed opportunities. But their "pattern" of previous sets over the last 30 years shows that LEGO (is it still called TLC or TLG?) is simply not interested in releasing a non <insert that tiresome argument> Castle line (except some special sets like the market (10193) and maybe the mill(7189)).

But that's basicly everything you said before.

What interests me in particular is the reason why they are not interested in creating a decent Medieval (or Fantasy, for all i care) -line, which is not over the top <insert that tiresome argument>

Are AFOLs really such a minority they can simply ignore or will AFOLs buy anything LEGO releases anyway?

Your rant is justified imo.

Instead of incorporating what AFOLs had to criticise about the last castle theme, Lego deliberately decided to ignore them all along and went the exact opposite route. They are the last ones who should be surprised about the refusal of most AFOLs against NK.

On the other hand, i think the critics against castle 2013 needs to be seen in context.

Castle 2013 may be <insert that tiresome argument> and childish, compared to it's predecessor, that's maybe true or not. But NK represents a whole new level of "not tolerable" or nonsense (choose one) imo. If Lego fans had known what follows after Castle 2013, they would have been so harsh against it, lol.

Regarding the Lego movie, i hate it. really. Especially since they start mixing themes, even as a child i hated it when someone was doing that.

(sorry for being Off topic)

I can only speak for myself, but i think what AFOLs primarily want/need is a new castle line that's about a historical setting, instead of mixing it with other themes.

Maybe it's just me, but i like a certain sense of seriousness, so to speak. If everythings silly there's no point of doing anything or being engaged in anything.

But that's just me of course.

Regarding this, i think Castle Fantasy had the best balance between <insert that tiresome argument> silliness and a certain consistency with itself.

EDIT:

What is this: <insert that tiresome argument> ?!?

I thought this is a forum for adult fans of lego.

It would be absolutely wonderful to get a medieval fantasy Castle theme that wasn't junior-ized, and didn't cater to the younger demographic (like 2013 did). They should target at least the older kids, 8-16, and do so without making it super flashy and taking it out of the traditional medieval setting (like Nexo Knights did).

I liked 2013, and there are things I like about Nexo Knights. But a theme that feels like a good cross between Kingdoms, Fantasy Era, and Tolkien, while bringing back some of the the fan favorites from the Classic Era like Falcons, Forestmen, and Wolfpack, that could be a huge success, and would stretch my wallet to the limits.

If TLG wanted an endless source of money, here is what they should have to do:

A warhammer-like game with minifigures ranging from historical armies (greeks, romans, mongols, egyptians and so on) to fantasy-mythological creatures (trolls, goblins and so on) not forgetting some architectural elements for the backgrounds, like a ruined mill, or the like.

That would catch in the net kids from 12 on, and some adults (like me, of course) and would be an everyday fresh source of fun and new stuff for castle lovers.

That would be cool. Maybe when they finish up all of these licensed minifigure series (like Simpsons and Disney), they could do waves of 16 themed Castle related minifigures.

Wishful thinking. They'll never do it.

I'd prefer battle packs, actually. Like the old Castle ones with 6 minifigures. Those were the good old days for a reason.

No blind packs. Battle packs for the game. With minifigures and weapons.

I still get baffled at the argument that Lego Castle had to be either Castle 2013, or Nexo Knights. Since 2013 wasn't a runaway success, that justifies Nexo Knights. As if those were the ONLY interpretations Lego Castle could have taken...

I can only hope that if Nexo Knights is around for years, they will at least release a few sets that cater to the medieval aspects of the theme, rather than everything being jet packs and hover boards.

LEGO should know that there are alternatives to 2013 and Nexo Knights. They themselves made the Fantasy Era, Kingdoms, and Tolkien stuff. I'm not sure what inspired them to go so bold with Nexo Knights. They just needed to expand upon 2013 and make some more sets for the Ninjago and Expert age groups.

I almost worry that Nexo Knights will try to cater to medieval, because there's bound to be something that mucks it up in the process. I'd rather just let Nexo Knights be as flashy and sci-fi as possible (like the new Ultimates that were leaked with Jellybean trans colored armor) and have the next Castle theme be darker medieval fantasy. I'm hoping that this 'fresh' new 'reimagining' of Castle is meant to build up more anticipation for traditional Castle sets. By holding off on them for a few years, they can build up demand.

I don't even need the next line to be "dark". I just want something that's good medieval design. Fantasy. Fairy tale. Gothic. Any of those would be acceptable to me, so long as they were thoughtfully done, and not too junior'ized, or used mini-dolls. Heck, even the new Elves sets have got quite a few good things going on it them, despite the mini-dolls and excessive "little girl" stylizing they are going for.

Agreed! I wish they would make a gender neutral Elves-like theme.
