thetang22 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 You should. There's a giant Castle that's been shown in the background of literally every single Nexo Knight picture, and without a doubt it will be a set one day, hopefully in the $200 range. Or it could just be a generic backdrop made to look "appropriate" for posing pics. It may be something more specific, but the backdrop is hardly confirmation of future sets. Quote
MAB Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) My wishlist is simple: For sets: mainly LBG and DBG a bit of reddish brown some black some tan and dark tan For minifigs: Not too fussed about colours. Maybe some new factions. Old style weapons. Proper armour, not futuristic. Edited October 12, 2015 by MAB Quote

They did a Nexo Knights version of that a while back... http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Enter-the-Serpent-70749 No but really, that'd be super cool! I'm sure Lego would get sued though. That tends to happen to poor Lego when they try new things. First of all... it's a Reindeer :D Second... it looks awful. I dunno, it looks pretty usable to me. x105Black Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 So you wanted a fantasy castle theme. We make a fantasy castle theme, then you complain because the fantasy kids went for is not the kind of fantasy you like. It has Kings, Queens, Princess, Knights, squires, magic books, magic swords, magic shields, castles, heraldry, jesters, evil monsters attacking the kingdom... but it's not a castle theme? Because the horses hover and one of the castles has tracks? For those doing the wishful thinking on a normal castle line, like the one else we just did, how likely do you think it is there will be a traditional ninja line while Ninjago exists? You made a cyber-castle theme and called it fantasy Castle. People wanted a fantasy Castle theme, and they included many detailed descriptions of what that means to them. I don't think a single one mentioned tanks, mtorcycles, lasers, or robots in a positive way. You're hyping up all of the Castle elements here, and severely downplaying the wealth of futuristic technology. That last sentence is the saddest thing. It looks as though LEGO enters it's Castle Dark Ages. Quote
thetang22 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 You're hyping up all of the Castle elements here, and severely downplaying the wealth of futuristic technology. Pretty much this. While "fantasy" has a pretty broad definition from a technical viewpoint, the reality is that the term Fantasy almost always refers to "medieval fantasy". The moment you start adding robots, lasers, futuristic elements, etc..., you are no longer talking about the Fantasy that laymen's terms are almost always talking about. Instead, you've got some sort of cyber/sci-fi theme with a few hints of Castle, but are trying to argue that it IS Castle. The best way to tell if a theme is Fantasy/Castle (ya know, the kind of theme that was obviously being referred to and wished for) is to take a set from the new theme and insert it into the 80's/90's Castle era, or the Fantasy Era. If that set looks like it belongs from a contextual standpoint, then you've got a verified Fantasy/Castle set. If it looks like Most of the Nexo Knights sets, then it's not Fantasy/Castle. It's quite simple. Quote

Dazz Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 2. The only possible precedent is regarding the coexistence of Castle 2013 and LOTR, which defied similar logic and was unexpected. I would be very surprised if a traditional/normal castle theme was released in the next 5 years, especially if the Nexo theme is a hit. Maybe Nexo Knights will turn out to be as succesful as Ninjago, and then get promoted to evergreen theme status, too. In that case, old-fashioned, regular Castle would never come back again! Quote
kabel Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 then you complain because the fantasy kids went for is not the kind of fantasy you like. Which kids are you talking about, your own? My kids (two boys 6 and 9 - prime Lego age) dont care much for it at all. They want castles and pirates and cowboys just like Playmobil has them. You know, "real" castles and pirates and cowboys and no cyber or ninja or whatever nonsense. And since they don't get these sets from LEGO they want Playmobil instead. This is something I had a hard time to understand at first since I never liked Playmobil due to its lack of building options. But hey, since my kids can't get what they want from Lego I guess I'll have to buy them Playmobil instead. Less of my money on LEGO's account! Quote
Artanis I Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I forgot to mention before about Chinese castles. When I play Age of Empires as the Chinese they certainly do build many castles... My wishlist is simple: For sets: mainly LBG and DBG a bit of reddish brown some black some tan and dark tan For minifigs: Not too fussed about colours. Maybe some new factions. Old style weapons. Proper armour, not futuristic. Sounds good! I want pre-columbian Tenochtitlan with large pyramids and priests that rip out their victims' heart! Maybe Nexo Knights will turn out to be as succesful as Ninjago, and then get promoted to evergreen theme status, too. In that case, old-fashioned, regular Castle would never come back again! I fear the same. Old-fashioned regular Space disappeared long ago. The recent Space themes aren't bad, but they aren't as classic compatible as recent Castle themes. Quote
x105Black Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 This thread is great, but what we really need is a thread about Future Medieval Castle sets, so people don't think we're talking about "Future Castle" sets like Nexo Knights. Quote

x105Black Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Last time i checked Nexo was ruled out as a Castle set and moved to Action/Adventure. As far as Eurobricks and many Castle fans are concerned, absolutely. As far as LEGO is concerned, it is a Castle theme. Sad, really. Quote
dzidek1983 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Really? Is there a proof for that? Besides the obvious "knights" in the name and some parts from castle used? Quote
gedren_y Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 The Lego designer posted as much in the Nexo Knights thread. Quote

Sad, really. Maybe it should be changed to "Future Historic sets" so that it doesn't get confused for the Nexo theme. And also so that we can talk about how cool a Chinese Castle theme would be! Also, how about those Castle Mixels? Maybe that's why we aren't getting an historic castle theme this year! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited October 13, 2015 by Dannylonglegs Quote
SerenityInFire Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Maybe what we as lego castle fans should do here on Eurobricks is come up with our own historic themed IP and submit sets based on it to Lego Ideas. Quote
gedren_y Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I have a Jason vs. Medusa LDD build I was working on. So far it's just the remnants of some ancient Greek style architecture. It needs work, but it could be a good set. I even used one of the large Juniors baseplates as the stone floor. I also have a small Viking longship in LDD that I posted a while ago. It would need reworking, and I would add a frost giant on a glacier as an opponent. We need to show TLG the sets we really want. Quote

Blakstone Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I think LEGO knows of the demand. There is the Medieval Market Street as well as two Tolkien sets currently under review. These all seem too large to get approved, but they show that at least 10,000 AFOLs would be willing to buy something. Besides one possible Ideas set, I think the future of historic and / or Medieval minifigs will be the CMF. They have been able to make great historic characters that don't appeal that much to kids by sprinkling them with other characters. I doubt many kids wanted an Egyptian warrior in Series 13, but I made a massive army of them to face off with the Romans from earlier series. So by all means, we should promote Ideas sets that focus on the style we want. Here are two I am currently supporting: Medieval Peddler Medieval Bakery Quote
BrickJagger Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 I feel like the bakery has a shot if the creator sizes it down a little bit. The bonus for getting to 1000 should help, too. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) I like the medieval Pharmacy built by the same guy! Helps that I work at a pharmacy, I suppose. No offence to the creator, but I'd love teh medieval peddler if the build was more complex and elegant. I would love a medieval answer to the Classic Space Mech, of which I own two, and expect to purchase more. Something very aesthetically pleasing, and innovative in regards to technique, while still being affordable, and Lego-feeling. I loved the Anime "Spice and Wolf," So medieval peddlers always catch my eye! His cart design is great, but a little plain to me. Edit: Just looked at it again, and I think it's really just the bottom that I find dull. I dunno how he/she could fix that. I'm not saying I could do a better job, either. It's a great model! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited October 14, 2015 by Dannylonglegs Quote
BearHeart Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I would love to see a 'real' castle theme be released. Nexo Knights is just a nightmare for me. Anything with traditional/classic castle elements. BTW, does anyone know why the last castle theme was a one off thing? Was it planned that way or was it because it didn't sell well? Quote
