Posted October 11, 20159 yr I know the Inside Tours take a select amount of people that register each year and it is incredibly exclusive to get in. Does Lego do any aspect of that tour for the general public, or for people travelling. Like, is that Museum aspect of the tour a public exhibit? I know with certain game companies and other big name manufacturers sometimes offer small informal tours to people travelling from overseas as a good gesture if they've been contacted ahead. I'm planning a Europe trip in a year or two, with Denmark as a destination and I am accepting that I probably won't get into the Inside tour when the signups open, so do I have any chance of seeing anything inside the factory if I'm in Billund? What would I have access to if I was to head to Billund.
October 11, 20159 yr Last Friday we were in Billund with a group from 1000steine. I heard that each year six AFOL groups can have a tour. There are also educational tours. But they were in the process of changing things inside the plant to at this point no new tours will be scheduled till they are finished. Apart from Kornmarken production facilities, we also visited the LEGO Idea House including 'the Vault'. I think it would be best to ask your closest ambassador.
October 11, 20159 yr JopieK, you forgot to mention this is for RLUGs. Not sure if you could arrange a tour without being a LUG member. Sadly, number of such visits/tours has now been reduced.
October 11, 20159 yr Author Yeah I just spoke to one of the leaders of my Local LUG which is recognized. At the end of this year at a meet we're working out the logistics of planning a trip. Sounds like it might be an option after all! (Given there are still slots available, as I'd imagine finding a slot out of six LUGs may be more difficult than 20 individuals.)

October 11, 20159 yr ...I'd imagine finding a slot out of six LUGs may be more difficult than 20 individuals. I'd imagine getting any kind of factory tour without either a) being in a bigger group going on one of those RLUG tours or b) knowing somebody inside the company would be extremely unlikely. So I'd definitely say the RLUG option is your best bet. The Idea House is not open to the public; you have to be invited to see the exhibition inside. It's not intended as a public display, it's there mainly for the employees to seek inspiration and to teach them about the company history. The Vault is even more restricted, only a very select few employees have key cards with access. But keep in mind that the LEGO House is scheduled to open in 2017. You say you're planning a trip in 'a year or two' - if you end up going in 2017 that will most certainly be worth visiting!
October 12, 20159 yr Author Aah yes I was wondering when it would open. Thats definitely another destination I'd like to go to. One of my LUG leaders was saying that there's definitely not 40 people in our group that would be able to go, but if we can get the min 12 people on board we're definitely thinking about it.
October 15, 20159 yr I believe I remember hearing at some point that one of Lego's factories (perhaps the one in the Czech Republic?) was being renovated and would include, among other things, more of a "viewing area" for visitors to get a look at the production facility without actually having to go out onto the factory floor. Can't recall any specifics, though, and for all I know I might've imagined it completely.
October 16, 20159 yr Author No I had heard that too somewhere, you're not imagining things =P. That'd be pretty sweet if that was the case.
