NBV83 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Interesting comments about the designer. Honestly, after the DO, I would have hoped it would be someone else other than Jamie this time. Disclaimer: Jamie has designed some very nice modular and Creator sets. I just think it would be better if they alternated designers to get a variety of building techniques instead of relying on the same person year after year. Having new multiple inputs give the modulars a new fresh perspective. And about the storyline, it is hard to say whether or not this is the whim of the designer or if TLG has issued a standing order that one be included. I agree that in an adult theme it is unnecessary. Nevertheless the design is good enough to set aside a budget next year to be able to purchase it. Also, I agree with some that if they keep raising the price, there will come a point where I get priced out of it. Please dont ask me to choose between going on a summer vacation or buying something half the size of a Fire Brigade with double the storyline. </rant> I agree that it would be nice with more designers working on the modular series. The last non-Jamie modular was the Palace Cinema by Astrid, and I find it to be quite nice as well. What happened to her? However, I really do like the cartoonish look of the PR, DO and the BB. Having the laundromat in the BB is just a nice touch, although it kinda makes the model more difficult to display in its entirety. I don't mind the sets being fun and silly. I also would not want to make the BB bigger, as I think it will fit better with the other recent modulars in the original size. One copy of this set will most certainly be on my wish list for 2016. Wout Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 You mean like this ???? It would be in style with the megalomanic banks from before the financial crisis. How many modulars have we already? 10182 Cafe Corner is a corner building (10190 Market Street is a straight building) 10185 Green Grocer is a straight building 10197 Fire Brigade is a straight building 10211 Grand Emporium is a corner building 10218 Pet Shop is a straight building 10224 Town Hall is a straight building 10232 Palace Cinema is a corner building 10243 Parisian Restaurant is a straight building 10246 Detective's Office is a straight building 10251 Brick Bank is a corner building So we have 4 corner buildings and 6 (7 if you count Market Street) straight way buildings. We only need 2 (or 1) straight way building to make a fully enclosed block. Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I hope they don't end the theme when one block is possible. That would be rather unfair to those who missed out on the earlier buildings. I have the GE up, but not the Cinema, and my Emporium has been cannibalized for parts. I do hope the theme goes on for a few more years, because owning a complete block would be so great! Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 It just popped into my mind that the frontage of the bank would also fit as a department store. Though now those light bluey grey 1x2 bar pieces are going to be very expensive on Bricklink ! Gold is going to be cheaper than grey stone ! Quote
Ryzomc Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Loving the new elements in the bank 1 the new diagonal tiles on the ground floor inside the bank 2 the scrolls under the desk 3 the stamp in the upstairs office Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 The pin tile/stamp and the scrolls have already appeared in Friends sets, but they're great pieces, and the pin tile is so practical. Quote

scottwb2010 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) To be honest, even in this massive proportion, it still looks great.. It would do good as a standalone too. But i'm afraid you would at least need 5 copies..or 4 + bricklink orders...;-) Yip LegoSjaak, youve just created a boom time for Bricklink stores from the New Year. The store owners will be those seen leaving the Lego shops on 1st January, with multiple copies of this set to Part out! Edited October 12, 2015 by scottwb2010 Quote

Since TLG counts Market street as a modular set, (if you see mini modular set) one more building will make possible to comprise one closed block. Since this modular theme will commemorate its 10th anniversa Quote

That sounds exciting, but I cannot see it, even when zoomed in. Quote

Since this modular theme will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2017 ,one more building will make possible to comprise one complete block with its anniversary set.I assume. Quote

I think what you're talking about is just the 2x2 radar dish that has been around forever. You can see it well in the top down picture of the first floor. Edited October 12, 2015 by Vorkosigan Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) Oh, what a letdown. I was wondering if that was the piece they meant. Yeah, that piece isn't even close to new. Edited October 12, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote
lostdriveway Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 You mean like this ???? OMG I love it!!! You sir a a genius!! Probably the first time I will be buying multiple of a modular! Quote
scottwb2010 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 It just popped into my mind that the frontage of the bank would also fit as a department store. Would also make a good Post Office Quote
ilikeboomerang1 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 The only mods I would do would be trying to ''modernize'' it. First I would Bricklink the City Bank vertical sign from 3661, and I would probably also add an ATM. Quote
Vorkosigan Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I'm guessing it's this, based upon the classic-style head of the female minifig: Wow I'm loving this polybag. I need more statue minifigs, plus gold frogs and a yellow bike. Its great how they include female hair and a flag so you can configure the statue differently. Quote
Sir Stig Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 What's this about a bonus polybag? How do you get that? Quote
Vorkosigan Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 It looks likely to be the January "gift with purchase", probably $75 or 100 USD. But there's no confirmation of that. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Cant wait to see the designers video. Even though I don't like the 10 dollar increase, I still really like the brick bank. Quote
Evil Stevie Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I'm happy with what I see here. I'll definitely be buying extra copies and making a Texas-sized (err, king-sized) version. Thanks to those who posted the photomods! Yes, this design could work as any sort of governent building, department store, generic office building . . . It's a nice classic design. Just needs to be bigger. Thank you, Lego, for continuing to feed my habit. Quote
Jern92 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 And the last photoshop MOD (the most rediculous one) You do realise that the laundromat bit would have to increase in height too, if one were to simply stack multiple first storeys? :-P Now that would be one freakishly tall laundromat It looks likely to be the January "gift with purchase", probably $75 or 100 USD. But there's no confirmation of that. Grrrr this means I'll have to buy it in January instead of March as originally planned. Looks like the Ferris Wheel will have to be postponed again Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 (edited) I'd like to see a proper modular skyscraper someday, but I'd never be able to afford one. Honestly, I like to leave the facades as is. They look fine, and short and tall buildings exist in the same areas. I'd rather have a playable interior than a bare one.
