Posted October 22, 20159 yr Just wondering if there's a 'how to' guide for LDD somewhere, apart from the basic help file that comes with the software (and this forum of course!). Things that I'd like to know how to do, for example: force a part to be placed underneath another part, rather than on top? (for example I have a model which contains a 4x10 plate correctly underneath two 1x8 plates along its edge. But I need to move the 4x10 plate along by one stud. When I move it, the large plate pops on to the top of the 1x8 plates. I can't just turn the view round so I am looking from underneath, because there are other plates lower down in the structure which get in the way of seeing what needs to be done.) Having saved a group, how do you select it to use again? Having hidden a part, how to you unhide it?
October 22, 20159 yr For your plate, just hide the bricks that are on top: LDD won’t try to connect to hidden bricks (but it will show you they are connected by highlighting them with a green outline). To unhide bricks, click on the little guy hidding his face that appears at the top right corner when a brick is hidden. You can’t unhide only one brick (except with Undo/Ctrl-Z).
October 22, 20159 yr Author Quick answer, thanks! You must be online 24/7 Not quite sure what you mean by hiding the bricks on top - those are the plates I want to connect to, from underneath. See https://www.cubbyusercontent.com/pl/Models/_8cf9055f99bb4be881011c192a36f432 (house4.lxf) . Trying to get both of the orange 4x10 plates underneath the 8x1 plates. [later] OK, done it now, but somewhat convoluted: hidden the floor and tiles underneath, added a temporary 2x2 plate underneath one ceiling plate, and then the second plate falls into place. Remove temporary plate and unhide floor!
October 22, 20159 yr Quick answer, thanks! You must be online 24/7 Not quite But I have an open tab to the forum and check for new posts a few times a day when I’m bored with other activities. And it happened just at the right time for your post. I hadn’t understood your exact situation, but that’s what I meant: hide the bricks LDD keeps wanting to connect to. Using a temporary part (“helper part”) is also a useful trick. Tricks you (re)invent yourself are always easier to remember
October 22, 20159 yr What I do, temporarily cover up the 1x8 plates with tiles to 'force' the 4x10 to stick underneath. Or hide the floor to access from below, like you did. You can click on a group in the group tab to select them as a bunch, or do other actions such as copy or delete. I'm guessing you figured out how to 'unhide.'
